I have stayed in this hotel 3 years in a row, due to amazing experience it offered! After a long day out in mountains coming back to this family-run hotel was more than a good continue of my day. Hotel offered excellent SPA facilities and fantastic restaurant, which could surprise even the best of gourmet. Hotel was worth even 5 stars, it was definitely a wonderful experience!

Having stayed In excellent hotels in the region previously, we thought we would base ourselves in Ortesei for a recent ski holiday and try the Hotel Grones which seemed to be universally liked. The hotel is situated just above the town in a quiet street. We were greeted warmly by one of the owners and shown to our room - a garden room on the ground floor with patio door to the outside. The room was airy, very well appointed and extremely comfortable - also immaculately clean. We were near the pool area which was lovely after a days skiing. We'd had good food in the region previously but nothing could have prepared us for the offerings coming out of the hotel kitchen night after night; food of the highest quality with such attention to detail prepared by chefs at the top of their profession. In fact this hotel was all about attention to detail and personal service, the owners clearly care very much about their guests experience and this shows in every single department. The staff were all superb without exception. As we were on a ski holiday, a word about the skiing aspect: the hotel has a shuttle to the cable car and collects when you are ready to return. The Alpe di Siusi ski area was vast with plenty of nice runs for us intermediates. Overall a wonderful stay in Ortesei and that food will last long in our memory

We have just returned from a wonderful stay at the Hotel Grones where all the staff made us feel very welcome. Nothing was too much trouble. The Chef amazed us every night and the food was delicious! The waiters were excellent and worked very hard. I could not fault the hotel. The hotel is set just a short walk from the town. There is no need to worry about getting to the ski lifts as the hotel has a wonderful shuttle service that drops you to the lifts in Ortisei. When you have finished skiing you just call the hotel and they send the bus to pick you up. Perfect!! We have been to the Dolomites several times and this hotel and resort are by far the best. The skiing at Alpe de Siusi was perfect for finding your ski legs again without being too scary. Thank you for a wonderful holiday we would love to come back again next year.

We have just returned from our second holiday at the Grones Hotel. The hotel is very well run, the staff are all very helpful and efficient. The rooms are spacious and clean, well equipped. Spa and pool, excellent. Food is amazing! The dessert buffet will not disappoint! Chef Roman and his team work tirelessly to create a great dining experience very night. It's worth skipping lunch when staying here.
The hotel is a short walk from town but this is never a problem. Their friendly driver runs a very efficient service to take you to the Seceda or Alpi di Suisi lifts, and picks you up later, keep the hotel number in your phone. So you never have to carry your skis around town. He will also drop you down in town for shopping ( nice shops!)
The skiing and scenery in the Dolomites are truly
amazing. Do the Sella Ronda both ways but also the many bits off the side. A great day out is to the Hidden Valley, Lagazuoi. Most time efficient way is to get a taxi from the hotel early ( we did 8.15 am) to the Dantercepies lift in Selva which starts at 8.30 am. Be the first to ski down into Corvara then take various lifts to Armentarola. Then 5 euro bus or taxi up to cable car, it can be busy so worth setting off early. You can also visit the Cinque Torri here. At the top of the cable car are amazing views, then you ski down the Hidden Valley, ( red run). Great photos. Just before the famous frozen waterfalls is the Scotoni restaurant, ( busy). We got there by 11.30. Share the grilled meat and veg platter. At the bottom you pay 2 euros to be pulled along a flat piste by horses. Well organised, unforgettable experience. Then up a short button, ski down into San Cassiano, up gondola then follow signs to Corvara, then back to Selva then Ortisei by skis or bus. Allow plenty of time to get back, not one for beginners because of distance travelled.
All together, an unforgettable stay at the superb Grones Hotel.

We loved our stay at the Grones. It was a perfect base for our day hiking excursions on the Alpe de Siusi, Seceda, and Rasciesa trails -- all were accessible from lifts about a 10-minute walk from the inn starting along the lovely Luis Trenker Promenade.

The half-board option (breakfast plus dinner) was superb and very reasonably priced, especially given the outstanding quality of the food (only 15 euros per person more than the standard bed and breakfast rate). Each night, the inn's award-winning chef offered an inventive (and different) four- or five-course menu. As "pescatarians," we were especially pleased that we could choose either fish or vegetarian courses. Every meal was delicious and beautifully presented.

One night before dinner (it's usually on Friday nights, but during our stay, it was held on a Thursday night to accommodate the schedules of several guests), the inn hosted a local accordion player decked out in traditional Tyrolean regalia. He serenaded us with his beautiful voice and playing as we sampled a variety of hors d'oeuvres and prosecco outside the dining room. During dinner, he roamed from table to table, singing in German, Italian, or English. All of the wait staff wore traditional Tyrolean outfits that night as well.

Our room was spacious, spotlessly clean, and furnished in a comfortably updated Tyrolean style, with ample storage space for clothes and other belongings. The bath and (one-person) shower were also fully modernized and in beautiful condition.

Finally, the staff at the Grones were first-rate. In fact, we've rarely stayed at an inn or a hotel where there was such an obvious sense of teamwork among the staff. Most were multi-lingual, and most seemed to share a true commitment to "customer service." Monika at the front desk was incredibly helpful throughout our stay, with great suggestions for hiking and other outings.

In hindsight, we were delighted that we chose to stay at the Grones -- though it's outside the center of Ortisei, it's still very close to all of the shops and restaurants "downtown" and to all of the lifts in town. If we're ever back in the area, we would definitely -- and happily -- stay at the Grones again!

We were looking for a hotel away from the crowd and Grones fit the bill. it is a short, nice stroll uphill from the center of Ortisei.

The room with a view over the valley was outstanding, the hotel is very clean and kept to a high standard. There is a small common area and a few sun beds outside in a very limited space which is a minus.

Dinner was ok but we didn't find it as awesome as others have. Breakfast was plenty and good. Price a bit steep.

All in all a nice hotel in a nice town in the Dolomites.

Room Tip: Room with a view of the valley is worth the extra!
