My husband and I stayed at Antica Olivaia for 3 days back in September 2013. ( It's taken me a long time to catch up on my reviews for our Italy trip.) You can not find more gracious hosts than Daniela and Marco. They are eager to help with anything that can make your stay a memorable one. Whether offering second or thirds on morning coffee or evening wine, helping plan a full day itinerary around Umbria, or suggesting a deli for where to find excellent wild boar sausage - (an Umbrian specialty), they are at your service. But, the highlight of the stay are the evening meals. No matter what you do, stay for one of Marco's meals. For us American's, the meals do start late, but they are well worth it! Most, if not all of the food is local. We had 2 dinners with them (and I think all the guests staying there did the same). I can't recall the exact price, but I believe it was around $35 (US) a person. Well worth it! It was fun to sit out in the open air patio with 10 other guests, drink wine, and talk about your travels. Most, if not all the food is local. In fact, when we were checking in, the "Boar Man" from "down the way", arrived with the wild boar for the evenings meal. It was in the back of his truck in the cooler! The wine is from a neighbor. Marco even went out of his way, to visit a neighboring cheese maker to purchase me some cheese to take home, as I had remarked on how much I liked the cheese he served during the prior evening meal. On the day we arrived, in mid-September, the weather was still warm enough for a swim in their beautiful pool. The next few days were a little too cool as the wonderful fall weather began to set in. The rooms are simple, but warm and welcoming, and plenty big, with enough storage for luggage, clothes, and purchases!!! The property is a bit out of the way and can be a somewhat difficult drive if you are not used to driving an automatic. The drive is a little steep and has some tight turns. Just make sure you get the kind of car that you are used to driving and you'll be fine. This has nothing to do with the property, just a tip for those driving. Another tip, plan a visit to Civita De Bagnoregio, while you stay here. Its about a 1 hour drive from what I remember, but it was the highlight of our entire 9 day Italy vacation! Daniela and Marco can give you directions!
