The managers of Villa Ciconia had done a good job restoring the building and recreating a suitable atmosphere for a villa of this kind. Sometimes ‘character’ hotels like this one tend to be overstuffed with pretentious furniture, paperwall, drapes and lace. This is not the case of Villa Ciconia with its terracotta floors, white walls and spartan furniture, so it is not a hotel to recommend to those people who fall for the glossy-decorating-magazine look.
Villa Ciconia is about another kind of luxury: a building with a real heritage converted without traumas into a small hotel, placed in a peaceful setting. Hotel staff also contributed to a comfortable stay.
Nothing to criticize, then? Well, I would have paid more attention to bathroom toiletries, and breakfast was plain Italian-hotel standard.
