“Felt right at home”

We spent two nights here in early October. The apartment was huge with a full kitchen and living room in addition to the bedroom overlooking the street. The double windows and shutters kept the street noise out. Serena was so kind to us. We had a great time. I hope we can return one of these days. Orvieto is a magical town, and La Magnolia is the place to stay.

For two weeks this September, my husband and I visited the magical Etruscan hilltown of Orvieto known for its glorious Duomo (with its frescoed chapel by Luca Signorelli). Orvieto is surrounded by the glorious Umbrian countryside with its undulating green hills and cypress trees. The landscape rivals the beauty of Tuscany. You can hike the trail that makes a ring around the city or venture out to the walking trails beyond.
On the main street of town there is a jewel of a B&B called La Magnolia - in the piazza where a real Magnolia tree stands! I was astounded by the beuaty and spaciousness of our apartment with its frescoed ceiling and fully equipped kitchen. It was light and bright and the furnishings and decor are exquisite- all for 65 euros a night.
La Magnolia is owned and run by the very lovely Serena, an Orvieto native who speaks English. She can share hints about places to visit, eat and drink. Make sure to take the Etruscan underground tour in Orvieto and check out nearby Civita di Bagnoreggio. Serena also rents out a small house and lovely apartment in the old part of the city.
Breakfast is abundant in the bar below-Da Brozzi (At the Brozzi's - it's a family affair) run by Serena's two handsome brothers.
A word of caution for older travellors - there is no elevator and there are stairs to climb!
Do not miss the opportunity to visit Orvieto and stay at La Magnolia for a little piece of heaven!

Room Tip: We loved our apartment with the frescoed ceiling! Each apartment that I saw was special.

Beautiful room packed with character - frescoed ceiling, stone niche in the wall, spacious room and bathroom. WiFi (free) worked with no problems whatsoever. Serena was as warm and friendly as everyone else has said. Orvieto is a completely captivating town with a stunning cathedral and one charming little street after another. La Magnolia has an excellent location right in the heart of it. Just take your time, explore! Serena made excellent suggestions for dining options too. I just wish we had booked more than one night!

In Orvieto, we stayed at La Magnolia B&B and – Serena – oh Serena! What a lovely person and warm hostess. In fact, we met the whole family. Serena’s parents welcomed us when we arrived earlier than expected. Serena's brother served us cappuccino in the morning, and later Serena treated us to her mother’s apple cake. And the room also was great – a surprise to have a kitchenette stocked with utensils and serving dishes – We celebrated by having a picnic for dinner. We served it in the adjacent dining room. The separate bedroom was comfortable and sweet, the free WiFi (and TV) worked. It was squisito!

The most difficult issue was finding where to park our car. We had to park outside the gates, walk in, walk out to get our car, repack and walk in again with our luggage. All this could have been avoided if we had been advised where to park when I confirmed our reservation. The rooms were fine and the bath excellent. Breakfast was served at the bar next door and was croissant, coffee and juice. It was somewhat concerning that the front entrance to all rooms was left open all of the time and this was a well traveled street.

If you're looking for a unique and wonderful experience outside of the usual tourist circuit, Orvieto is for you. While the day time does see many visitors, most tend to leave by the early afternoon, leaving this incredible, medieval walled city yours to explore, alongside the friendly local population. We chose to stay at BB Magnolia and were so lucky to have done so! What an wonderful find! Serena and her family are incredibly accommodating, going as far as to make us a "travel breakfast" for the last morning, when we had to leave early. The residences themselves are beautifully appointed, and very large, some of the nicest we stayed in while in Italy, and right in the thick of the action, though appropriately quiet in the evening and night hours despite the lively crowds outside the front. We would without a doubt stay again and again, and cannot wait for our next trip. Stay here!

We love Orvieto and stayed at La Magnolia"s new apartment. This is a family affair with
Serena as a perfect hostess her brothers serving up food in the downstairs cafe. We had the opportunity to meet her parents and definitely see how their children got their charm and grace.

The rooms in the B&B retain their history yet are completely modern. The apartment we stayed in was large, off site in a quiet neighborhood with 20 ft beamed ceilings washer, stove refrigerator. We loved it. We will return to Orvieto and B&B La Magnolia
