We arrived a day late andit was agoodthing because our transfer was not aware of us and never showed up on the planned date. BA paid for our room etc, because of their lateness.WE paid 270.00 Euros for each transfer in total 540 Euros to and from the hotel, be Aware this hotel is around 100 km south of Naples. The hotel was basically empty except for a few Canadians, the staff speak only italian except for a LOVELY girl who works about 4 days a week and will help with anything. We met our Eropean relatives there and they paid one third the price we paid for a room and two meals aday, half board it is called. The ruins at Paestum are truly magnificint and probably more impressive than anywhere in Europe, You can walk to them in 20 minutes. The problem is that there is nothing else to do there. The food is OK but not a true ITALIAN experience as we have been before . The Hotel is mostly used for big Italian weddings almost every day.The feeling you get is as a second rate client, not that important, it was really irritating as we paid a total of 8500 buck and had FREE airfare !!! Now we know there is no free anything

We visited during the off season in Sept 2006 and really enjoyed having the hotel almost "to ourselves". It was quiet and peaceful although the weddings added some excitement with the fireworks and music. We were there for 2 weeks so we got to know the staff by name and found them very helpful. They assisted in arranging a 2 day trip to Rome for us. When we returned it was like coming home as they met us at the door and immediately asked how the trip was. The town was lovely, with freindly locals, only a few restaurants and amenities. We were treated like royalty by Pepe when we had lunch at his restaurant on the main street. He even opened up one afternoon just to fix us lunch. As a special treat he brought out his home grown chopped hot peppers that we enjoyed so much he gave us some to take home. We talked to the local real estate agent, Fabio. He introduced us to his freind, Giovanni-the taxi driver, who took us to a specatcuar cave. We booked three of the day tours. Our guide, Paul, and driver, Gabrielle, were the best we've ever had. Shopping and exploring in Salerno and Naples was only a train ticket away and very easy to figure out. We would go to Paestum again and we would stay at the Mec Paestum for sure.

An absolute disgrace. The hall looks ok,the rest of the hotel is average. And don't even think about feeling welcome when you arrive because you won't be.
Waiters are lousy and if you ask them something they just look at you in a rather annoyed way. Furthermore, Paestum has got a really nice and interesting archeological site BUT nothing more. If you want a nice holiday, DO NOT come here.

The MEC Hotel Paestum has a five star Italian government rating. This was obviously for the convention service facilities it offers, because it can't be for the hotel. This is a modern, sterile edifice that has no warmth, no charm, no nothing going for it, other than being convenient to the ruins at Paestum.

The rooms were adequate in size, and the bed was ok. The furnishings were dreadful. Although the bathroom was fine, the tiny slivers of cheap soap were a joke. The only thing worse was the buffet breakfast that came with the room price. There were a couple of canned juices, several types of cereal, and some bad coffee and rolls.

The only thing preventing a terrible rating was that the hotel was clean and reasonably cheap.
