“Very classy--great place to stay!”
Reviewed 11 June 2011

My wife and I stayed here for one night, arriving by bus from Salerno, before heading to Cosenza. It is a great place, located within a 10 minute walk of the temple entrance. It is really not like a hotel, but rather a converted grainery and villa on a peaceful, quiet road. The place is very well kept, built in the early 1900s. Our room was huge, with a large King bed, quaint old furniture, sitting benches under huge windows, and our own enclosed glass porch with French doors from our bedroom. The porch had its own entrance outside, down a flight of outdoor stairs. The bathroom was modern, with a shower stall. The grounds are spacious. When we stayed there, there were only a few other guests in the place. There did not seem to be any places nearby to have dinner, so we ate in the restaurant in the hotel. The food was well prepared, with a rather eclectic menu and on the expensive side, but it was sort of romantic, as there was only one other guest dining there, a local businessman. After dinner, we tried to take a night walk, but made it a short one---the area gets pretty deserted after dark, as it is in the country, and abuts the restoration area. If you like "spooky," with buildings that seemed to show their damages from WW II (bullet and shell holes), then you will love this area.

The breakfast in the morning, included in the room price was excellent, with juices, cereals, breads, toast, fruits, torts, and coffee. The staff was very helpful and pleasant, and even offered to have one of the maintenance & ground workers drive us to the RR station in the morning for a fraction of what a cab would have cost. While you could walk it (1 mile), we availed ourselves of the offer.

Overall, it was a great experience to stay here, and I would recommend it, as the temples are worth a stay.

We came to this hotel to unwind after a tour of Sicily. Amazing place and great location for the Greek and Roman ruins (which are quite exceptional and reasonably tourist free). Rooms bigger than most European hotels; no lift though but only a few floors. Picked us up and dropped as off at the railway station (regular trains from Sapri/Naples or Salerno) at no cost. Fabulous gardens and surroundings. Restaurant on-site which provides good quality meals and good local wines. Highly recommended for a get-away from the usual tourist crowds and bustle.

We didn't have a hotel for the night. We were on our way to see Paestum and passed by this hotel. Since it looked nice and peacefull, we decided to stop and ask for a room. And it worked! The prices were more than good, the service was great, the location was IDEAL (walking distance from the ruins) and the breakfast was good. This is the kind of surprise that we like on a trip!!! I wish anyone who goes there to have the same luck we did.

The hotel had arranged a taxi to meet us at the station and we were given a warm welcome and shown to our large and beautiful room overlooking the garden. That afternoon we walked to the top of the road and as we turned the corner we saw the magnificent Paestum temples. We spent three nights at the hotel and found it to be an oasis of calm. Although the weather was not brilliant while we were there, we really enjoyed our stay. The building is large and beautifully decorated and furnished. We ate at the hotel on the first night and the food was excellent. The breakfast was also good with freshly made cake. There was free wifi in the downstairs rooms. The staff were all extremely pleasant and obliging. They arranged a taxi to take us to the station, helped with the booking of the train to our next destination and even phoned our next hotel and arranged for them to meet us from the station. This is the ideal hotel to stay in to explore the wonderful archaeological site which is a short walk away. Once the tourists have left for the day it is very romantic to wander past the beautiful illuminated temples. Our room as I have said was large and had a sort of conservatory attached and a nice bathroom. The bed was large and comfortable and everywhere was spotless. Our stay in Paestum was the highlight of our Italian holiday, mostly because of the wonders of the place but also because of our restful stay at Il Granaio dei Casabella

We were really pleasantly surprised. Our rooms, the eating and sitting areas, all were nicer than portrayed on the website, really quite charming. Our room and my sister-in law's room were especially nice, connected, but private. Spacious with really nice bathrooms. We had a small terrace, and from our rooms we could see the Temples lit up at night, just lovely. Our dinner and breakfast was very good. All of the staff were very friendly and smiling.
I would definitely recommend staying here if you want to see the Temples. They are truly awesome.

My sister and I enjoyed II Granaio dei Casabella's quiet ambiance and the friendliness of the hotels manager, while spending a few days of relaxation after a busy few days in Rome. We had dinner there one of the nights , prepared by their talented chef.
I would highly recommend the hotel to anyone wishing to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, and the Amalfi coast.
