Owner description: Founded by Greek colonists, the ancient city of Poseidonia dates from 600 B.C. It was abandoned for centuries, but the remarkably well-preserved Greek temples were excavated in the mid-18th century.

The archaeological site of Paestum was a unique experience because the three temples of Poseidon, Hra and Athina were trully magnificent, but also the scenery was very beautiful indeed.

I went to the Amalfi coast expecting to see Pompeii and Herculaneum--Paestum was a fabulous surprise. Three glorious Greek temples set in meadows studded with other ancient ruins, with room to stroll and take it all in at leisure. Flowers, birds, pathways, temples--it is as good as it gets.

Amazing ruins of an Ancient Greek city with 3 temples that are in the better condition than anything found in Athens.

perhaps the most beatuful temples i've ever seen and i've seen a lot of them. it's also in a tranquil rural area, unlike the overbuilt towns of Pompei and Ercolano.

The temples are fenced off and the best view might well be from the roadside, especially to see the Greek theatre - we felt that it would add little to pay for an entrance ticket. Consider taking a meal or coffee in the gardens of the Hotel Nettuno to savour the atmosphere, inspect the city walls, and see the Basilica + temple of Apollo.
