“Meal was GREAT, rooms only average”

As part of our trip to Capaccio and Paestum area, we planned a tour of bufala mozzarella and an area Agritourism. We selected the Azienda Seliano purely on reviews and what was on the web. If your goal is to eat local, home made cuisine then Seliano is perfect for that. The whole experience of wine and some terrific snacks on the loggia to the sit down 5-6 course dinner with other guests was absoluetely worth every euro. In a heart beat, we all agree we would do it again and highly recommend it to others. From the beautifully stuffed pumpkin flowers, similiar to what i grew up eating, to the final dessert was most memorable. The only reason that the rating is downgraded to a "4" is the not so great rooms we were assigned when we arrived. Our other traveling couple's room was "acceptable" but the room my wife and I were assigned to was not. Without getting into needless details, we complained nicely in Italian and ending up in a much, much better room but getting it done is not what one wants to do when one travels. The owners helped a good deal making sure we were happy. We were supposed to stay two nights but cancelled the second night because our new room we assigned to some other the party the 2nd night. Actually, it worked out well because we traveled to Taurasi area the next day and got some of the best bang for the buck we had on our trip. Summation of Seliano is that the meal is great, well worth the euro but if you stay the night, request a newer, recently remodeled room. Being close to Paestum and fresh mozzarella is noteworthy as well.

“The highlight of our 3 week trip to Italy - best of all worlds”

My wife and I toured around Southern Italy for three weeks August/September 2008. Our trip to Seliano was a highlight of our entire trip. We took trains to different regions then bicycled within that region. We had a long train ride from Sicilia to Paestum. Upon arrival, the sun just set and we were off on our bikes to try and find Seliano. After asking directions, we finally found the long - by this time quite dark - dirt road leading to the farm house. We had been dreaming all day about the dinner we would have upon arrival. We showed up later than they request, but because we were on bicycles they accommodated just fine.

First, Ettore brought us to our room. We were a bit confused in the dark to have to leave the main area to go to an annex building 3 minutes away. Not sure if we showed up too late for the main building, or if this is where overflow guests go. The room was clean and comfortable, but not as charming as the rooms in the main campus.

When we made it back for dinner, a peculiar Belgian man was welcoming us - I believe his name was Nicholas. Having been on trains all-day and showing up in the dark, my wife and were quite discombobulated. Our spirits quickly rose as a plate of water buffalo cheese was placed in front of us. The meal just kept getting better - with excellent wine and one of the best meals of our entire stay in Italy.

The next day, we arranged for a tour of the Water Buffalo Farm. Our Italian is not very good, so we didn't know exactly what we asked for. After waiting 30 minutes and worrying that we didn't quite understand what was going on, Massimo, Ettore's brother and manager of the farm showed up to take us on the tour. We were relieved that he spoke very good English. He directed everyone to follow his truck, and we had the pleasure to ride with him. We learned more about Italy than during the previous two weeks, including the challenges Italy has had converting to the Euro. Massimo was extremely friendly and knowledgeable and the farm is fantastic. There were many recently born calves and each had its own name. After the farm we visited the dairy where their milk is turned into cheese. A highlight of our entire vacation was to taste a mozzarella ball that had been made right in front of us. As you can see I love food! Again, we learned a ton from this experience.

Dinner that night was a bit more intimate. We had the pleasure of dining with a couple from Japan - two very intelligent and well-traveled people. I felt that our host was not very culturally sensitive – making some generalizations regarding Asian people and also criticizing immigrants to Italy – without the awareness that he is an immigrant himself. The meal was excellent as usual and service 5-star.

No matter where I go next in Italy, I will always try and make room to visit Seliano. They really get the concept of Agri-tourism. Not only were the accommodations very comfortable, the service excellent, and the local food amazing, the story is very present and an important part of the experience. I suggest others use Seliano as a model.

“HIghlight of a 9 day trip to Italy”

We spent 3 nights there and they could not have been more wonderful to us. We were a party of 11 family members travelling in Italy for the Thanksgiving holidays. When we arrived at a much earlier time than expected and quite hungry, Ettore arranged for a local restaurant to open early for us to have lunch. For Thanksgiving Day, they actually prepared a traditional Thanksgiving turkey without our even requesting a special meal. The turkey was brought out with fanfare and was delicious. All of our evening meals there were delicious and allowed us to try the local specialites. At evening meals, our host was Nicolas, who was quite charming and kept our meals entertaining. Massimo was very quick to help us solve our transportation issues and answer frantic calls when we had problems, as when our train simply stopped at an unexpected stop, emptied out and deposited us in a different city than expected. Our rooms in the guest house were spacious, pretty and clean. There was a large living area downstairs where we could gather after a day of touring. Massimo arranged a tour of their water buffalo ranch, a bufalo mozzarella production site and a wonderful lunch at a local restaurant. We were able to tour the Paestum ruins and Pompeii easily from 'Seliano'. We were able to have internet wireless. We highly recommend this place because our stay there was the highlight of our 9 days in Italy. If we had had another day, we would have taken cooking lessons that are offered there.
