“Why bother?”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 May 2014

The Piccolo Paradiso is one of the first (and largest) buildings you see when entering Peschici from the west. It's an imposing structure, lying at the foot of the hill on which lies the 15th century fortified town. First impression? A stiff climb to the entrance from the car park, (the external lift was out of action), means one arrives slightly breathless at reception. An informally-dressed man, possibly the manager, greets one with indifference. A key is handed over one one is left to find ones way to one's room.
The room was narrow, made even narrower by having a minuscule bathroom crammed into one corner, meaning one had to exit sideways onto the balcony
Dinner was not being served in the hotel, which meant a long steep trek up into the town to have dinner. We had not been told about this at the time of booking. We did consider driving up but the police are everywhere in evidence and Italy's drink-driving laws are strict so the car was a no-no.
The chambermaids began to wheel their trollies up and down the echoing corridors at 7 am. We had driven 460km the previous day and wanted a lie-in so this was not welcome. As the building is of concrete, any noise reverberates throughout and doors being closed 50 feet away sound like thunderclaps.
Breakfast was stale cake and one of yesterday's croissants. There was no fruit juice.
The general lack of interest in us, as paying guests, was depressing and we would recommend that anyone intending staying here, leaves his visit till the height of the season when eating dinner doesn't necessitate a Himalayan trek.
Not a place we would stay in again.

Piccolo Paradiso Hotel is in an excellent position within the beautiful village of Peschici. Everything you may need from a holiday is readily available in Peschici. And Peschici is nearby many other Villages you may wish to visit during your stay, like San Giovanni Rotondo to visit Padre Pio; Monte San Angelo to visit the Basilica Shrine of St Michele; the beautiful Umbra Forest and The "Trulli" at Alberobello.

With regards to the Owners of Piccolo Paradiso, Michele and Rafaela, they are absolutely wonderful. They are friendly and obliging. They are obviously knowledgeable of the area and offered many suggestions on what to visit. They shared their personal stories with us and made us feel part of their family. They offered us their home made Olive Oil (made the day before) and it was delicious.

The breakfasts were incredibly generous, with at least 5 different choices to eat, and the usual tea or coffee. With all this breakfast, we were able to eat nothing else all day until dinner time.
At dinner, there was always a delicious starter, a delicious main course and other side plates. After that there was either a sweet desert or fruit. The desert was homemade by Rafaela. The white or red wine was also delicious (we preferred red).

To sum up our stay: We were so welcomed by both Michele and Rafaela that after a day's trip, we felt like we were coming back home to Mum and Dad for dinner. They are both generous, friendly and down to earth people, and I would recommend anyone staying at their Hotel if anywhere in the Peschici area.

Book Read: I also recommend reading the book "The House of Scorta" by Laurent Gaude. It is about life in the 1870 and written in and about the Peschici area, including the Trabucco fishing. READ this before you go!

THANK YOU very much to Rafaela and Michele for being part of our beautiful holiday in the Apuglia area, We shall never forget them.

Room Tip: I would recomment a room with the Sea View. The sunsets are beautiful.

Made a mistake of not checking carefully. No AIR-CON, with temperatures in the late 30's the ceiling fan was not man enough. Daughter slept on the balcony. Photo showing hotel from beach has been photoshopped see my photo of actual view of hotel from beach). Yes you can see the hotel from the beach & it is less then 5 mins walk. Price of room comes with sunbed & umbrella at the beach, which was great. When check-in realised that English was not a languauge spoken with much efficiency, never mind, thought was getting through ok, until we went to room & where I had specifically requested twin room as I was travelling with my daughter was given a double, back down & lets start again. Got room with a double & a single, problem was it was same size as the double so very cramped. Bathroom was relatively new & ok apart from the shower cubicle, what ever you do don't drop the soap, I kept banging my arms just trying to wash my hair. Family owners were friendly enough (or so I thought), the breakfast adequateand fresh, the pizzeria was close & the beer was good & cold. Great place to base yourself but long haul up steps to centre, although there is a local bus running all the way up for 1 euro. Decided to ask for late book out or another night as we had a late flight from Bari, thank god for google translate, got that sorted.
Check-out was amazing, am sure the guy was scarred of computers & I was in a hurry, then to find out that the only card reader was in the pizzeria, 10 minutes later and out.
Wasn't till I got to airport realised had been charged 6 nights, we only stayed 4, so expected 5. Will be making a compaint to the booking agents about that.
Would I go back? To Peschici certainly but next time I will be more careful with my hotel booking.

Room Tip: You get what you pay for. Views of the pine forest are a view of the cliffs that have pines on it. M...
