Visitors to the Pistoia Apennines can enjoy its well preserved natural environment and breathtaking views. So it was for the iconic actor and philanthropist Paul Newman who chose to locate in this area, in a WWF natural reserve, its Dynamo Camp, a center of recreational therapy for children with serious illnesses. The area is a perfect destination for those who love all kinds of outdoor sports: the mountains are rich with trails for walking, mountain biking or horseback riding, as well as rivers and lakes for fishing. During the summer, the Pistoia Mountains offer a rich program of cultural and recreational events such as music and folklore festivals, gastronomic fairs and medieval re-enactments.
Located 20 minutes from Florence and Lucca, Pistoia also has much to offer in terms of history, art, monuments, traditions, nature and cuisine. Walking through the picturesque streets of its historic center, visitors will find many good restaurants that offer authentic dishes of the Tuscan tradition, as well as local wines, at fair prices. Pistoia also offers one of the major zoological gardens in Italy. To visit, nearby, Vinci with the Leonardian museum, Montecatini with its thermal baths, the medieval villages of Valdinievole including Collodi, the town of Pinocchio. During the winter season, our area offers modern downhill and cross-country ski facilities. With over 80 kms of Alpine ski slopes, Abetone is the most important winter resort in Central Italy. Cross-country tracks are located at 15 minute drive from our villa, while downhill slopes can be reached in 30 minutes. All main facilities (shops, supermarkets, banks with ATM, post offices, pharmacies, hospital) are very closely located (between 1 and 10 km from the property).
