“Great Holiday”
Reviewed 23 September 2013

Just returned from a yoga holiday at this hotel and it couldn't have been a nicer place. Beautiful large pool area, white sand beach, clear blue sea. Fabulous views out to sea with yachts and sailing boats on the horizon. Great food both at breakfast and brunch and at the Orange restaurant where you are welcomed with a glass of Prosecco and a smile. The staff were very accomadating and did everything they could to make our stay pleasant and relaxing.

we have just returned from a one week stay. The offer we had was from Voyage Privee - booked and paid for in January 2013. Our room was "standard" and was clean, tidy, and nicely decorated. Daily maid service was good. Breakfast experience was very much as already documented - however, we didn't really find the waiters to be very pro active. e.g. they waited to be informed that the water urn was empty......... Main complaint would be the cost of drinks etc at the hotel.
Super restaurants within 15 minutes walking distance - for the able bodied of course - quite a hill.

No need to repeat details about the area and location - we agree.

All in all very good value for money.

Sat above a secluded cove in a lovely scenic setting. Superior room with a sea view very spacious and daily maid service keeping the rooms really clean. Arrived 14 Sep just as season starts to close so a little disappointed that the beach bar wasn't open 10-6 as advertised and following an evening arrival there was nothing available to eat other than a cheese and tomato focaccia at the pool bar. Pool lovely, all luxery amenities, lovely seating areas around the hotel however 4 euros for a bottle of water costing 1 euro in the nearest supermarket seems a little steep. Sunbed hire on beach at 20-30 euros per couple also leaves a sour taste as the hotel isn't cheap to stay in. That being said, it is 4 star and the location and facilities in the hotel are perfect. We had fruit and prosecco in the room on arrival as we are celebrating our 10yr wedding anniversary which was a really nice extra touch from the hotel as I didn't ask for it. Orange restaurant at the hotel is amazing and the food/service was lovely. Just one main negative is breakfast, not the food or choice as that's great, but due to time of year there was a real wasp problem and it became a nuisance at breakfast. Maybe the breakfast service, plate clearing and better ongoing cleanliness of tables between 730-10 when breakfast is served would help keep these pests down. Day 5 of our holiday saw smoke burners being used to keep the wasps at bay but breakfast service should mirror the Orange restaurant service and it felt a little lacking. Golf buggies to get those less mobile around as there are some slopes and uneven areas. Rooms have own sun loungers and lawns and more secluded plunge pools which are private and lovely. Overall a nice hotel worth visiting.

Room Tip: Superior room with sea view is amazing. Room 7101 a food choice.

This is a lovely hotel with excellent staff, who speak English, but of course like it when you try to talk to them in Italian.
The beach is perfect, with crystal clear waters and only a minutes walk from the pool, where there are plenty of sun loungers even when the hotel was full.
Porto Cervo is expensive but there are a couple of restaurants down the hill about a 10 minute walk away which are very reasonable.
The grounds of the hotel are great, lots of couches and nooks to sit and relax in, the pool bar has a huge selection of drinks, the cocktails are divine.
A lot of people have mentioned the rooms on here but you are not in your room for long, our shower was perfect and the air con worked fine, I would recommend getting a top floor room though.
We had stayed in a 4 star hotel in Sardinia before and the Grand Hotel is better, you cannot please everybody all the time that`s for sure but we do not look at little negatives. The tv is small in the room with only bbc worldwide in English, but you are on an Italian island, who cares about tv, there is a free use computer in the lobby so you can keep abreast of the news at home.
The breakfast is very varied and very Italian, hence not much hot food, but we ate very well everyday, very healthy.
We hired a scooter, which the front desk arranged, they can sort out cars too which are delivered to the hotel. You need transport here for sure as there are some amazing places to visit. The supermarket in the marina sells very cheap water and beer, there are fridges in the rooms also.
A ten minute drive away is Baja Sardinia, a big resort with cheap clothes shops and lots of good restaurants, The Orange restaurant at the hotel is nice but rather pricey if you are on a bed and breakfast basis.
Sardinia is a beautiful, safe and friendly place, it does cost more than a lot of places in the Med, but its worth every Euro for the quiet and weather.

Room Tip: Request a top floor room.

We travelled 24th sept to this lovely hotel, booked through 'Voyages Prive'. Porto Cervo is a very chic area of Sardinia. Spoilt for choice re beaches, hired car and visited different one every day. Hotel great we were allocated a 2 room suite on arrival large bathroom, 2 sinks, 'double shower' wonderful sea view (all rooms have sea view). Rooms clean and spacious. Easy walk down hill to gorgeous beach however it is prone to a build up of seaweed which was cleared by digger while we were there. We were prepared for everything to be expensive but pizzas and salads were fine and inexpensive. We preferred to use car to eat out but heard good things about hotel restaurant. Car was great as hotel not centrally placed in Porto Cervo and beautiful island to explore. Being in superior rooms we had access to 'Orange Restaurant' and particularly enjoyed breakfasts in hotel where the 2 main members of staff were extremely attentive and spoke great English. Fresh chopped fruit, croissants, omelettes to order and I asked for freshly boiled hot water the first morning and after that it was automatically brought to me each morning just how we English like it! My partner loved the cappuccinos. Reception staff always ready to give advice. Plenty sunbeds near pool. Yes sunbed hire on beaches everywhere extortionate so we purchased rattan mats and umbrella for beach visits. Good value trip, highly recommend hotel and Sardinia.

I echo what a earlier contributor said about this hotel. It is definitely not 4 star! Granted, the rooms are large, the pool is fabulous. the beach side bar with the lounges is great and the Orange restaurant is superb, but apart from that that, it falls behind what I consider to be a great hotel, esp as the hotel I stayed at in Paris the weekend after was only 3 star, and was STREETS ahead of the Gran Hotel. Here a few brief shortcomings:

- TV in room. Old and antiquated. No CNN either.
- Linen. One towel only and hand towels. I would expect more from a quality hotel.
- Smell. My room was next to where toilet waste was processed so the toilet had a rather strong odour.
- Staff. Level of English was quite average and so was the welcome to the hotel. In fact, we rang the hotel when we were stranded at a beach after a cab driver would not pick us up and when we rang the hotel we were told there was no one on the desk who could speak English! It wasn't obvious what were the hotel's facilities and what was available, eg use of beach towels.
- Breakfast. Very little variety offered and hot food selection was poor.
- Beach. I was charged 30 EUROS for sun bed at the hotel's beach. Granted, the hotel does not own the beach or have exclusive rights, but there should be at least some arrangement for hotel guests.
- Bar side food. As one member noted, very poor selection of foods on offer.

Overall, this came across as a tired hotel which lives and feeds off the reputation of Porto Cervo. Its desperately in need of a refit.

We have just returned from the best holiday we have ever had. The hotel was great the service was outstanding and the food at the Orange Restaurant was incredible. I had read reviews that said some negative points such as no showers by the pool which was incorrect, there are 2 heated showers to use.Towels are provided to use at the pool and there was never a struggle to get a sunbed. The beach club was very reasonably priced compared to other beach clubs we have been to in Spain. This is one hotel that we will definitely return to again 5 stars to all the staff and many thanks for a brilliant holiday.
