Elba Island, Villa Padulella, Portoferraio
16 Aug 2007
Trip Advisor Member, Italy
Based on description, reviews and price we decided to book this hotel. The price itself was a good value, we paid $116.00 per night including breakfast and stayed 6 nights. Okay, we'll touch on the first thing of this hotel. It is clean, but the towels have a funny smell to them. They do not have a bath mat in the bathroom, I had to use one of the smaller towels. Description of the hotel says it was renovated recently, not true for the room we were staying at. The bathroom fixtures were quite corroded looking and also the shower. Pressure was always low and the shower doors were out of whack. You had to give it a hard push in order that that they close. The first time I whacked my head traying to close the doors. Air conditioning is not controlled by individual rooms, it's controlled by management and you only get air conditioning during the hours of 5:00 PM to 11:00 PM. Our room faced the back with trees and that means lots of birds making loud and strange noises, I really don't know what kind of birds they were as I never saw them but certainly heard them. There is absolutely no variety in breakfast, I ate the same type of brioche for each morning, I've stayed at many hotels in Italy and this "continental" breakfast is the worst. This hotel sits on a hill and is a walk to the main town area. The good thing is the staff, they were friendly and helpful and the beach is located 200 meters down. We only went once, the beach is small and rocky.
We plan to go back to Elba Island as it is a wonderful place to go but unfortunately we will not be staying at this hotel.

2 stars for the Villa Padulella - room was tiny and cramped, dated and well used with non-working air conditioning. It was clean however but very basic accommodation. Road outside could be noisy (even from the 2nd floor) - is on a hill - so a steep walk home from the old centre.
Breakfast followed in the theme of the room - basic - all long life products, with very little selection.
Ok for a short stay but would try somewhere else if had the choice again.
