“Awesome island B&B”
Reviewed 6 December 2013

Echoing other reviews, Andrea and Leon are wonderful hosts! Great experience staying out on the little island (Andrea and Leon pick you up in their boat), breakfast overlooking Portovenere, and some fun little hiking trails next to his property. My wife and I (late 20's) only spent one night here, but definitely one of the most unique and memorable stops of our trip!

My wife and I stayed at La Casa del Pescatore for 2 nights in late June, 2013. Everything was wonderful -- the room, the view, the air, Andrea and his dog Leon, Porto Venere, being on an island but still close to the mainland, and eating a healthy, delicious breakfast outside on a beautiful morning with Porto Venere and the Ligurian Sea looking so beautiful.

Just one example of Andrea's hospitality was him taking us across to Porto Venere early in the morning so that we could catch a bus to go to our destination for the day. He showed us how to use the ticket machine, and when we missed the bus by seconds, said, "Follow me!" and led us a back way to another bus stop, flagged down the bus, and told the driver where to let us off.

Our memories of this beautiful place and its warm, friendly, helpful owner will stay with us always.

We just spent 3 wonderful nights with Andrea and his staff (Leon the dog), and this place is everything that other trip advisors have said, and MORE! Without sounding repetitive, here are our Top Four reasons to stay there: #1: Andrea's hospitality, responsiveness, and attention to detail, #2: THE VIEW, (of Porto Venere on the mainland) which you won't find anywhere else except from a boat. #3, Porto Venere itself...get away from the hustle-bustle of the Cinque Terre villages, but maintain all of the beauty, terrain, food (foccia, etc.). The Ligurian culture is much more present in PV, much less diluted by streets full of tourists. And remember that you're still within reach of the 5 Lands by way of the ferry. In fact, the ferries will dock in PV when other of the CT villages will be closed for rough seas. (we experienced that on this trip). #4 Andrea's boat and crew (Leon). It's like having your own private taxi boat at your disposal, and every trip back and forth to PV is a little sight seeing trip. We never were forced to wait, it seemed like Andrea and Leon were always awaiting our call or were already at the dock.
There's only one other B&B on the island, and that's over the Locanda Restaurant (7 rooms) near the island's ferry dock. Read the reviews on the restaurant first, and then judge for yourself...it's all the same owner. We picked Andrea's and Leon's place.
Finally, you do not need to use booking.com to make your reservations at La Casa del Pescatore. Deal directly with Andrea via email or phone and you'll have much more flexibility.

Memories are made from beautiful experiences. Staying at La Casa Del Pescatore with Andrea and Leon (the dog) as our hosts was certainly a memory that will stay with us for a very long time. One of the highlights of our whole italian trip was sitting having dinner on the terrace watching the sun go down over Portovenere then repeating the experience at breeakfast with fresh croissants, pastries and fruit, expertly prepared by Andrea. Andrea is a superb host - knowledgeable & so so helpful.

A very nice family home converted to a B&B on the island just across the channel from Portovenere. We really enjoyed our breakfasts on the terrace, looking across the water at the pretty row of buildings on Portovenere -- the scenery can't be faulted, the dog is very friendly, and the only downside is the wasps (who are fond of ham). Our room wasn't particularly large, but it was comfortable enough. Andrea was friendly and helpful and took us over the channel by boat whenever we needed to make the trip (it takes about five minutes).

Palmaria itself is a nice place to walk around. I'd say the only downside of staying here is that you do have to find some means of transport to the mainland -- Andrea is very helpful with this, but it's just that added layer of inconvenience, especially as you essentially have to get lunch and dinner at Portovenere (I think there are no more than two restaurants on Palmaria; one of them was closed at the time and the other may only have been open for dinner, and wasn't open every day of the week). That said, I'm glad we stayed off the mainland -- I personally just like islands, and the boat trips to Portovenere were a positive pleasure, especially in the mornings.

Peaceful, reserved, romantic, comfortable.
Forget cars, forget noises, forget stress.

Andrea is pleasant and very educated: a magnificent host.
Morning. Try to imagine to wake you up, go to the green terrace - a nice one - and admire sea and Portovenere in front of you. Then fresh pastry, croissant, small pizza, fresh fruit salade, jams..... and only "noise" is made by boats moving between coast and/or sailing to sea and the sea-gulls.
Position is perfect and, again, Andrea shall help you to have a very nice staying.

For who is booking: you're going to an island and to a high-standard B&B.
You should be searching for that and do not expect a noisy place or standard hotel.

The breakfast alone makes this worth it. A beautiful setting overlooking Portovenere. Andrea is the nicest host, and provides a stellar selection of fruit, cereal and local pastries. He's is more than happy to ferry you to and from the island and recommend what to do. Would recommend to anyone.
