Extremely well located but do not get fooled by Italian hotels stars. This one would deserve 3 if not 2 stars. Old fashioned up to the design, awful music of poor quality on the pool, very average breakfast. They vacuum noisily the corridors early in the morning and wake you up (maybe to be able to clean your room sooner). Other than that pretty ok. Staff is helpful and nice. But don't stay too long, it would be depressing overtime. You can play tennis.

Room Tip: Seaview better but more expensive

Wonderful room overlooking pool and sea. Great food in restaurant . Superb base nearby for boats to Cinque Terra. Lots of places to visit by boat and sheer heaven to return to lovely hotel sit by pool and relax with beautifully served drinks. Splendid for short break.

Room Tip: balcony over pool

As a North American tourist, I found the price of 250 Euros asked for a small room with a very nice view to be pretty steep especially for a hotel with little service. Very slow internet ( 10 Euros per day) , average breakfast, 20 Euros parking and very little concierge service.
There would be nothing wrong with the place if the price was adjusted to modern standards. The beach or actually the tanning area is not sandy but very rocky and surrounded by a wall. . Actually, it is not a beach at all.
The view form our room was outstanding, I must say, and the people working the front desk very nice.
As another reviewer said, this place needs serious updating especially the showers and the furniture to be remotely worth the 250 Euros asked for one night stay.
Porto Venere is a nice day place but I would not spend more then 48 hours there except if you go to the Cinque Terre park by ferry boat.

Room Tip: Ask for the water view on the corners. They have a totally unobstructed view.

I stayed at the Royal Sporting Hotel on March 27, and 28, 2013 while visiting the Cinque Terre by train. What a welcoming treat at the end of wonderful ten day spring break holiday to France and Italy. The hotel is located across a very small street from the bay. Our room had french doors that opened on to a balcony that overlooked the pool and the bay. It was so restful. The room was tipically European, a little small, but very, very well maintained. The hotel is a short half mile walk from the quaint little village of Portovenere.... so Italian!
Since we were staying here with a group of students from the states, two of our dinner meals were served in the dining room. They were both amazing! The food was truling outstanding and the service impeccable. Our two breakfasts were served there as well, and were equally impressive and delicious. The buffet spread was wonderful! The grounds were beautifully kept also. I would highly recommend this hotel.
If you want a beautiful, relaxing, get-a-way, on the Italian Riviera, this is the place. Thank you Royal Sporting Hotel for a truling wonderful stay!

Room Tip: Get a room with french doors that overlook the pool and bay!

The staff/employees/owners at Royal Sporting Hotel are absolutely the best! My daughter stayed at this hotel and left my very sentimental and expensive ring in her room. She was already on her way to her next destination before she realized it. But no worries! The amazing and honest staff had already found the ring! They graciously helped me arrange shipping back to the USA!
It was so inspiring to work with such honest and helpful people!
My daughter loved this hotel and said the views were spectacular!

We stayed 3 nights, beginning of Oct. 2012 in Royal Sporting Hotel.
Very practical hotel: Tennis, nice swimming pool, Garage (without it, parking is very challenging!) Very genuine and helpful staff. Rooms are very compact. Breakfast was very good. My favorite was a fresh fruit salad. Dinner was very tasteful, fresh local pasta and fish dishes and very good service! This time of the year the town was quiet and during the night the traffic didn't woke us up.
We had a nice and relaxing holiday!

The hotel was hard to find - nobody in town knew where it was, not the busdriver, not fellow passengers, not the shopkeeper at the bus stop! So in the beginning it was all a bit confusing. However, once I entered the lobby I knew I was in good hands. I was given a warm and efficient welcome, I had a lovely room with balcony overlooking the Golfo dei Poeti and enjoyed a swim in the pool before dinner in town. I couldn't understand why my legs were floating so high in the water before I tasted the water: salty! And very nice! The bed was comfortable and it was wonderful to fall asleep to the splosh, splosh of the sea outside. Nice breakfast, too. Only negative point is the silly wifi-charges. I would love to come back to Portovenere and to stay in this hotel!

Room Tip: Front rooms with balcony are definitely worth the extra charge
