This whole area, Portovenere, must have been fashionable in the twenties or thirties. But it is not now. This hotel is ancient, the rooms have wooden doors that have to be locked from the inside with a big, heavy old type key. Luckily, the room did have a large balcony overlooking the port and sea. The lobby is dark, a few brochures, dark carpets, musty smelling. Nothing in this town is new. I tried to walk into 'town" on 2 separate occasions, but it was far on foot. The pool area is the only redeeming factor, water was cold. Restaurant in hotel is expensive but they do try very hard to please. No room for my suitcase so housekeeping put it on top of the fridge.

Room Tip: beach is gravel, not soft sand. Beach below hotel is a private club which does not allow hotel gues...

My husband booked this before checking out trip advisor having read it before our imminent arrival we were worried. Everything said is true, the hotel is tired and tatty looking, the staff are miserable only saying hello once spoken to and never smiling, the breakfast is very basic. However the setting and location are superb. I believe the only reason they can charge what they do is purely because of this. If you plan on staying just a couple of nights, you can ignore all of the bad points because of the location. Anymore that a few nights I'm not sure if I could put up with the sour faces, tired decor and dodgy plumbing. We will be back but will try an alternative, sadly they are probably all of a similar ilk in the area, because they can afford to be

Very clean hotel. They actually cleaned all the time! From 0730 in the morning until late night. We stayed with a nice terrace looking out on the pool and the bay. Great view. Do invest the extra euros to get the view instead of staying in a room facing the back of the hotel. Very well located within walking distance to Portovenere and a place to relax. But the service is in need of a smile. Really. It is a bit chroming to feel you´re in a hotel that used to be modern...

We went on a deal which made it affordable, normal price would have been too much I think. The staff are wonderful, the service great, its clean and the food really good for the most part. It is rated 4 star but it needs to be redecorated and modernized to be on par with the prices they charge. The gym is also in poor condition.
Great location for visiting 5Terre. it is a short boat ride and really, Portovenere is ever bit as nice as any of the 5 villages of 5 Terre.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms next to the stairs and lifts. They are a bit noisy.

This hotel is well located, within 15 min walking distance from the center of Porto Venere. Has very good views, the rooms are clean and the breakfast is ok (nice fruit selection!). The pool is nice, with a great view over the bay. However, the air conditioning is awfull, very noisy and the air is barely cooler then ambient temperature. There is no free wifi, and I found this most annoying in 2014! I ended up paying for 24h internet connection but at check out the hotel offered me the internet which was nice on their part. Has efficient vallet parking, important in that small village. The hotel is in need of a general refurbishing to more modern standards.

we did not believe the bad comments on this hotel, but indeed so many bad things, this hotel rates only a poor 3stars,especially because of the ugly furniture (was modern in 1950?)and the very old fashioned way of cooking in the restaurant(p;ex white schrimps with cocktail sauce (was very trendy in the 60ties)the very little changes in the menus on 3 days; poor choise of desserts;and canned fruit at breakfast.all this is really a pity as the terrace at the swimming pool is wonderfull and the views from the rooms balconies:very kind and reallly nice service;other problem, the spa was closed in the afternoon(or afternoons????)

Room Tip: dont eat at the restaurant;if you wanted a superior room, you got a normal room with a smaller room...

We spent a week here the end of May and it was wonderful! The staff was great and the breakfast buffets huge and varied. We were with a small group and this was our basis for visiting the Cinque Terre. Portovenre is a short picturesque walk to the center from the hotel from where you can take a ferry to the different towns depending on weather and seas. When we were there they were only ferrying to Monterosso because of the rough conditions so we had a bus to take us to La Spezia where you can take a train to each town. The prices of wine were expensive at hotel restaurant, we felt, and so was the bar, but there is a small grocery next to the hotel that sold the exact same wine for less then have the price and it was chilled and they uncorked it for us, 10 euros as opposed to 24 in hotel. There is also a small bar and restaurant I discovered on the beach that is part of hotel, but different restaurant management and is only open on weekends except in June July and August when it is open daily. A glass of wine there is 2.50 as opposed to the 5 euros upstairs at swimming pool bar.The rooms were just adequate, but our balcony's view of pool and harbor bay made up for that and we loved it!

Room Tip: We had room 216 that had a great view of pool, channel and the Palmaria Island from our balcony. The...
