We chose this place as a base to explore the Cinque Terra by boat. The weekend we booked was the last of the Italian school holidays so it was very busy, however, the location of the hotel to the ferry, restaurants and beach was very convenient.
It is a very small hotel with only a few rooms and beds are rather firm, but the location and friendliness of the staff make up for all of that. We were also happy to stay at Portovenerre rather than one of the Cinque Terra villages as they were extremely busy, crowded with tourists and very small, so there is not a lot of choice for food etc if you choose to stay at one of them overnight.

We stayed here to have a base while exploring the five town in the Cinque Terre region. The rooms were newly decorated and very comfortable. The location is excellent, just at the waterside and walking distance to the bus that will take you to La Spezia for the train into the Cinque Terre region - in case the boat is not working (normally leaves a couple of hundred meters from the hotel). The only point of criticism, the hairdryer in the bathroom was not working well and there were no coffee/tea facilities in the room.
Roberto, the owner, is a perfect host, and a great cook, so don't forget to eat in the Italian restaurant downstairs!

Room Tip: All rooms - just 4 - have sea view but there are 2 with a balcony. Book one of them.

Stayed here at this little inn of four rooms for six nights in September 2012. Very welcoming and accommodating owners who responded quickly to any requests we had. The room was appeared slightly used but was clean and a good size with a small balcony overlooking the waterfront. It had a fridge, safe, and air conditioning. The bed was very firm. Breakfast was served in the restaurant--a buffet with fresh croissants, various breads, cereal, cheeses, fruit and yogurt and cappuccino made to order. The location was fabulous--just a few steps from the ferry dock and the old town. The restaurant made great pizza, too.

Room Tip: Ask for Palmeria or Tino--the two rooms with balconies!
