We stayed at Le Agavi for 4 nights in September. Staff were helpful, hotel was clean but the decor in rooms is lacking imagination. It looks like rooms one would find in Thailand's Pattaya Beach! No complaints about the views nor the location as it was worth overlooking the mediterranean and positano of an evening. Had we stayed in the Positano town itself, we may not have seen such a night time fantasy of the town coming to light after dark! Also, we thought it may have been too busy in Positano and noise levels may be more extreme in busy times. We opted for views, quiet location and a shuttle that runs ever hour and is efficient. Our one and only complaint is the beds are tooooo hard and the pillows are not much better. This would be the ONLY reason we would consider another hotel when next visiting Positano.

Following the good advice of prior reviewers, we arrived here by water taxi. Unfortunately, the hotel dock that you arrive at makes for a poor 1st impression - boards are missing from the flooring & it just has a generally run-down appearance. We took the funky funicular upward to the reception area to check in. Again, this was fairly disappointing - everything seemed worn & the check-in was not particularly enthusiastic. The one positive note about this hotel is that our room (a jr suite) was quite large, with the bedroom up some stairs from the living room & bathroom. We had a terrace with beautiful views, though the umbrella for our chaises was broken & the planters had long weeds amongst the flowers. As noted by nearly every reviewer, the bed was ridiculously hard, with just 2 pillows on it for 2 people. The wifi (which we paid for but then got refunded) simply did not work at all. One of the 2 TV remotes lacked batteries, the other had batteries that were badly corroded. There were no English TV channels. The hotel's shuttle (dented) leaves on an hourly schedule - you get the shuttle from the "top" of the hotel where the road is. This entrance/exit to the hotel is pretty oppressive as there is a food truck present at the curb (picture the italian version of a hotdog truck stand), along with lots of tourist buses stopping to get photos of the amazing views. The hotel is not walkable to the town of Positano. The return shuttle is also every hour, but tends to have a line of people waiting for it which means you may not make it on due to lack of space. My advice - If you're looking for a place to stay in Positano, either stay at the beautiful San Pietro (also requires a shuttle) or stay in town at 1 of the other top hotels such as Le Sirenuse. This hotel is certainly not worth the price. We did not like this hotel enough to hang out by the pool or dock. The breakfast (which some reviewers seemed to rave about) consisted of runny fried eggs, canned fruit (seriously, it was canned) & some bread-related offerings. The breakfast/lunch area is not particularly pretty. We couldn't leave here fast enough after a one night stay.

Dear Sir, dear Madam,

We are surprised that your stay, even if just a one night stay at Le Agavi, was not so pleasant for you, differently from all the other clients staying with us.

We just want to clarify:
1) the particular features that you defected as deseases are typical of the Amalfi Coast and Surrentine Peninsula. The wild landscapes, protected by urban binding laws, allow the exposition of stands selling typical products of the coast (lemons, oranges, ceramics, lemoncello and take-away food).
2) The shuttle service to the center, that few hotels offer, runs almost every hour, with two buses, while a water taxi is also available on request from our private beach.
3) The housekeeping, before the check-in, double checks everything, the umbrellas, the sofas inside and outside the room, the TV and Sky satellite, which allows to watch channels in english, the air conditioning, differently from what you claim.
4) You should have called the reception, which would have provided what you required, explaining that two extra pillows were in the wardrobe.
5) The buffet breakfast is made of 40 to 50 between savory and sweet courses, fresh and canned fruit. Our buffet offers a large selection, not only canned fruit and fried eggs, as you would like others to believe. You affirm that our buffet is poor, in spite of other hotel guests, who are enthusiastic of the quality and aboundance of our buffet breakfast, as written by yourself.

We are sorry that your stay at Le Agavi was not as pleasant as your expectations.

We will highly consider your comments and, for the future, you could choose to stay in one of the other top hotels in Positano.

Kindest regards,
Reservations dept.

The opportunity for a European vacation came up suddenly, we had to make plans quickly. Many of the top rated hotels in Positano were filling up hourly as we tried to review and rate our best choices. Looking over our notes and checking comments (and photos) from others on Tripadvisor kept bringing me back the Le Agavi Hotel. While not exactly inside the town of Positano - the hotel has a free shuttle and a taxi is 10 mins and 5 Euros to get you into town. We needed a suite or at least two rooms for our families 4 night stay. After emailing the concierge, I was assured we could have a wonderful corner suite, looking towards Positano. He was correct- it was an absolutely amazing 2 room suite with a living room area, big patio & lounge chairs with incredible views up and down the coast. They offer a pretty decent free buffet breakfast (ask for fresh scrambled eggs to avoid the standard chaffing dish eggs) espressos, Mimosa, juices etc. There is a private hotel beach with a funicular to take you down to the water. A great pool with a bar and food service make it hard to want to leave the hotel - so it does serve as a perfect staging ground to start your Positano adventures! We will be back, Ciao!

Le Agavi's staff is only superseded by the amazing views. The villa my family shared was clean and large. The private outside decks were large, shady, with separate areas for all of us to enjoy privately if we wanted. The pool had its own waterfall/jacuzzi, that was in use often after the long walks down to and from town. Every direction the view was even more beautiful, inside and out!
The staff was friendly and helpful. We were there specifically the week of the Ascension. A very big festival in Positano and the Catholic Church. Most of the staff speaks and understands English enough to explain the festival to us.
Let's not forget the 3hour lunches with the freshest seafood available that day!!! The service is impeccable with a very large wine list. It's nice to eat a pasta course, swim in the Mediterranean then finish your lunch. All very casual dress, with fine china and a linen table cloth.

Room Tip: We rented a villa at the top. There is a "elevator" that goes up the mountain. If your not...

Le Agavi has the most amazing views of the town Positano and Amalfi Coast. We stayed around the 700s rooms and yes there is a lot of walking but it was okay with the Funicular.
Sonia and Antonio at the front desk were very helpful as well as Giuseppe the pool manager. The staff was kind and friendly. Even the pool had amazing views.

The 2 things that I hated about the rooms would be the hard beds, literally it feels like you are sleeping on rocks, it’s that hard. Most people would say firm but the bed is not firm, it is very hard. Second thing would be the shuttle, it is sometimes a pain when you are waiting for it but it is still manageable. Plus it is easy to go down the hill to the town then work your way back up.

The breakfast was simple but very good and the cappuccinos were to die for. The view from La Serra was the best. We hope to return in the near future to enjoy the views, food and people. My absolute favorite place in all of Italy!

Le Agavi is like no other hotel. It is literally carved into a mountain with rooms positioned along about 1,000 steps down to the Sea. To call the views spectacular is probably an understatement. And that is what you're paying for -- not fluffy pillows and luxury. We just finished our second stay at Le Agavi in 2 years. Both times we stayed in room #211, which has a huge terrace with a priceless view of the Amalfi coast. Le Agavi hosts a free shuttle into Positano so you can easily get into town. But you'll likely spend more time at the hotel, at its pool or down at its "beach." (I use quotes because there is no sand, but you are right on the water. There is also a fantastic restaurant for lunch.) We loved The Serra, the main restaurant and ate dinner there several nights. Start your evening with a drink at the bar (served by the affable Antonio) which has a patio overlooking everything. Breakfast is included and is extensive. The front desk staff is extremely friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: There is a funicular but if you get a room in the 600s or 700s be ready to walk a lot of stairs. Le...

The rooms leave something to desire from this price point (basic rooms/hard beds), but you will forget about it as soon as you step onto your balcony. The views are mesmerizing from every inch of the property. The restaurant is excellent, and the private beach below is spectacular. Go into town on the shuttle and find fantastic shops and some of the best food in Italy! We wanted to quit our jobs and move there!
