“Bird's Eye View”
Reviewed 14 June 2014

There is absolutely no doubt about the unparalleled position of this hotel.
It is the best feature by far. And the courtesy of the staff is superb too.
If you're challenged without a gps then it might be fun finding your room - I kept finding very confused fellow guests trying to work out the lifts down the cliff face! We also all agreed that the bathrooms need a makeover and that the mattresses on the beds should be thrown off said cliff! They are terrible. But as a base for exploring Positano, while keeping a step above the crowds, with the bonus of an amazing view from your own personal balcony - well this is hard to beat.

We just got back from a 10 day trip to Italy. We stayed in Positano for 4 days and loved the whole experience. This hotel was the perfect choice as it has the unbelievable views from everywhere on the property, beautiful landscape and very clean and attractive rooms, and balconies. The breakfast on the patio with the views is amazing, and the fresh fruit is like nothing we have had anywhere. The choices are very large compared to what others have said. There were eggs, ham, yogurts, pastries, cold cereals and a lot more. Not sure why anyone would not be happy with that! We loved the beach area, the great assortment of chairs, umbrellas and the service was great. The rooms are varied and you can request a room close to elevator and close to reception if you don't like the many stairs. We had no problem with taking two elevators because you are on a cliff with steep drops. What other choice could they give you? The rooms are placed so that you have balconies that don't line up perfectly on top of each other, therefore you have more privacy and need the different elevators to get to your room. We stayed in room 104 and it was perfect, close to top of hill for shuttle and close to anywhere you wanted to go. The funicular was amazing and smooth, right to the beach. This location is great because you have quiet and yet it's less than a 10 minute shuttle to downtown, which is super busy, noisy and after a night of eating and shopping, you have a peaceful glass of wine waiting on the balcony, and amazing views to look at. You can spend a fortune on rooms there, or stay at a bargain room downtown, it really does not matter, as long as you choose what it is that makes you happy. We chose the views over downtown, and had the best of both. Would recommend highly and would stay there again. There are a lot of great places to stay in Positano, and the food is the best anywhere you eat!

Room Tip: Rooms at the top of hotel near the reception are convenient, near the elevators, close to funicular...

We stayed here for our first trip to Positano! The staff was extremely helpful, room very clean, although the shower never properly drained correctly! The views are amazing and we enjoyed the pool very much! A lovely buffet style breakfast and again amazing service! Would not recommend to the physically challenged as there are many steps, ramps to get to the road, an elder couple we witnessed first hand with this experience!
If you want to be out of town ( which we did!) this is an enjoyable hotel to stay at!

The hotel is beautifully located high on the cliff overlooking the town and the bay. The shuttle bus
Is great but journeys do have to be planned. The restaurant is very good.
The staff are very professional but friendly. Nothing is too much trouble for them.

What a wonderful experience at Le Agavi. Staff were friendly from the moment we stepped in with big smiles and welcoming words. The funicular ride down to our room was an unforgettable experience. Never been in a funicular before and this one was definitely interesting.

When we finally reached the room I was impressed by the size compared to European standards. The private balcony had stunning views, only down side was if anyone was standing at the edge of the balcony above you they would have a full view of your balcony so try to get a room with no other rooms above it for more privacy.

Bathroom was spacious and the shower was wonderful with two different shower heads with plenty of options for sprayers as well as a jet shower.

Location of this hotel is perfect. It's higher up than the main market area so the views are spectacular but close enough that it won't take more than 15 minutes to get there by car. Speaking of which, the Hotel provides shuttle services almost every hour to and from the market which was perfect. Only once while we were waiting to go back to the hotel were both shuttle buses full and the driver was kind enough to go to the hotel to drop the guests and return immediately to pick us up.

Speaking of drivers, and this note relates to all other hotel employees as well; WOW. Wonderful staff are always smiling and doing their best to help.

The only points that could use some improvement are the breakfast selection and the beds. Though there was a wide variety of fruits and breads, the breakfast was still basic. It did the job and satisfied the hunger, but it seemed to be missing in presentation and could get boring after a couple of days.

On to the point of the beds, we specifically asked for a double bed but instead were provided two single beds that were pushed together. Reception was kind enough to let us know that they would then provide us a double bed but the gentlemen who came to the room later informed us that there were no larger beds, so instead he strapped the legs of the two beds together. This wasn't the ideal solution, but it worked fine for the few nights we were there.

Overall, I do see myself staying at Le Agavi if I were to visit Positano again. A very enjoyable and memorable experience was had with just a couple of improvements needed to be made. Thanks for the memories.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms with no other rooms above them for more privacy on the balcony as well as those on the...

Sadly I won’t be staying here again. The hotel is about a 10 min shuttle bus ride to the main part of Positano where you really want to be. The shuttle bus is either once per hour (fine) or annoyingly only once every two hours in the afternoon when a lot of people were keen to get back to the hotel before going for dinner etc. I didn’t think staying outside Positano would be too bad since we had hired a car from Naples, and when we arrived late at night after the drive from Naples the friendly guy at reception insisted we give the keys to car to the concierge and everything will be taken care of. That was all well and good until we found out upon checking out they charge 25 euro per day for parking, and at no stage was this mentioned. When you’re paying 350 euro a night for a hotel an extra 25 euro per night isn’t the end of the world, but hidden charges for me are an absolute deal breaker. To top things off when I wrote and explained the situation and asked if there was anything they could do as the parking charge was never mentioned, they didn't even bother replying to me email. Any hotel that would risk getting buried on Trip Advisor for a 75 euro hidden charge can’t be trusted in my view, but I guess when you’re operating in a tourist mecca like the Amalfie coast repeat business isn’t a concern.

I had two fantastic nights here. Dining room beautiful with excellent food. Private patio with view of the sea. Gracious staff. Beautiful public rooms for gathering with others or enjoying solo. I highly recommend this establishment for the Amalfi Coast.
