We just returned from an fabulous 2 week family vacation in Italy with our young son (3.5 years old), during which we stayed 5 nights at the Covo dei Saraceni. We had a Deluxe Junior Suite on the 6th floor (same floor as the pool) and the room was lovely - spacious, clean, comfortable, nicely decorated in a white on white mediterranean motif with a separate living area, 2 terraces and private jacuzzi/tub outside. We looked out over the main beach and ferry docks and lovely harbor. The buzz from the boating activity was definitely present but we didnt find it distracting at all (our floor is high enough above that you feel like you're watching from a good distance) and in fact our son loved looking at all the boats. We enjoyed having the private jacuzzi/tub on our own terrace since we could relax on the terrace, sunbathe, cool off in the water and let our son play/ "swim" without worrying about disturbing others at the pool area. It was fairly private though guests on the next floor up could see down if standing at the end of their balcony. Inside the room, all was quiet as can be. Housekeeping and service overall at the hotel was tip-top. They made the room up EVERY time we left it. Anything we needed, we just rang the desk and it arrived promptly and with a smile. The breakfast buffet was large though heavy on the pastries/breads/danishes for our taste. That said, there was also yogurt, fruit, cereals and the traditional cheese and sliced meats selection as well. Great coffee. Our only complaint was the cost of the bar in the lobby. We sat down the first evening for 2 glasses of Prosecco (served with the usual bar munchies like olives, nuts, pretzels, etc) and got a bill for 40 euro. This was high way robbery and we consequently decided not to eat at the hotel for the rest of our trip. I do understand the food is supposed to be good however. We know many folks prefer staying on the other side of Positano (where the Sirenuse or Maricanto are) for the views and longer sunset, but for our needs - especially with a small child - staying down at the beach at the Covo was the absolute right choice. Still great views, absolute convenience for boat trips, and yes - we walked every night up the pedestrian way and up the road and back for dinner at Caffe Positano, Da Vicenzo, and Ristorante Mediterraneo - all GREAT meals. Also convenient for the walk around the corner to the Fornillo beach and a meal at Lo Guarrancino (fabulous views!). We had 3 AMAZING excursions via private boat with Barbara & Antonio from barbarapositano.it) and would be absolutely delighted to email anyone interested in a private boat tour of Capri or the Amalfi coast - we have no reservations in recommending them. Beautiful service, lovely boat, fabulous personal touch. Dinner in Nerano at La Conca del Sogno and lunch at La Fontelina beach club in Capri were out of this world, unforgettable experiences. We would happily stay at Covo again and plan to be there same time next year!
