Stayed three nights at Al Barilotto with Giovanni and his family, wish we had stayed longer!
Was an amazing place with newly renovated bedrooms, but the charm of a traditional italian restaurant down stairs. The food served was amazing, can highly recommend the muscles!
As mentioned before Giovanni and his family were absolutely amazing, felt like being with my own family!
Hopefully make it back one day!!

Other reviews have said it but I will say again, the hospitality here is five star. Giovanni and his family welcomed us with open arms (literally) and we had such a wonderful time. We didn't realise initially that Barilotto was outside of the main town (5 min drive) but in fact this was perfect. There are two great beaches within easy walking distance (laurito and arienzo) as are the stairs up to nocelle where you can start or finish the walk of the gods. The bus is very easy to get to and from town (and keep in mind that a lot of people staying within town use the bus to get them up the hill!)
And of course, the room was amazing! Uninterrupted views straight out to sea. Our room was very spacious with separate living and sleeping areas and high ceilings.
As others have said, the restaurant was fantastic! We stayed 3 nights and ended up having one lunch and two dinners there! Hard to beat the beautiful terrace looking out to the ocean and the food (especially the seafood) was some of the best we had in Italy.
But what this place has that nowhere else I've been to has come close to, is the ability to bring true joy to a holiday. Giovanni and his lovely family were incredibly kind, welcoming and happy! You cannot help but smile every minute you are here! I really hope I can come back to Barilotto again and again. I cannot recommend it highly enough, don't stay anywhere else!

Mr. Giovanni and his family own this restaurant and cannot do enough to please every guest. We went to Positano for our sons wedding and ended up having the rehearsal dinner here. Food prepared perfectly. The bruschetta is out of this world plus the homemade tiramisu was to die for! Highly recommend this wonderful restaurant with marvelous views!!! Plus we had the pleasure of staying in his villa that made our visit to Positano perfect!!

My 20-year old daughter and I stayed at Al Barilotto del Nonno for the first 9 nights of our trip to Italy in May 2014. The location was great as a home base to explore Positano and the Amalfi Coast, and our visit here was the absolute highlight of our entire trip. The room was clean, spacious, and had a beautiful view of the sea from a balcony with loungers. The hotel has an elevator, which we found was certainly out of the ordinary during our trip, and much appreciated. Giovanni was so helpful with everything - from drives to and from Positano (5 mins but so much more convenient than taking a bus or walking), helping us figure out the local bus to get to other towns along the coast, and even got up with us at 5am (with a smile) on our last day there to make sure we made our connection to Venice. Giovanni and his family bring service to an entirely new level.

Breakfast was included with the room, and each morning we awoke to freshly-squeezed orange juice, fresh baked pastries and a wonderful choice of fruit from their gardens. On two mornings they even made us scrambled eggs. We had many dinners in their restaurant and everything was spectacular. Often, the family would serenade diners, singing songs in Italian and leaving us misty-eyed.

What we liked best about our stay here was that we were treated like family. These people are genuine, friendly, caring, welcoming, and do everything to make sure their guests have a wonderful experience while staying with them. To Giovanni, Mario, Rachele, Massimo and family - thank you so much for everything and we're very much looking forward to seeing you again. Fino a quando ci incontriamo di nuovo!

We stayed at this charming property after reading the reviews and we are happy to say that it exceeded all expectations. From the moment you enter to the time you leave Mr. Giovanni and his family makes it so memorable. He told us this was our home & treated us like family. The newly renovated room on the top floor was very minimalistic but modern, clean, and opened to a terrace overlooking the most breath taking view of the coast. To wake up and see this every morning was one of the high points of our trip. The breakfast was in the hotel terrace restaurant & was excellent. Mr. Giovanni was kind enough to take us down to the town on more occasions than one. We ate dinner on the terrace restaurant more than once and the food quality was superb while being a much better price point than many of the restaurants in Positano town. My favorite part was when in the middle of dinner the entire family comes together and sings traditional italian ballads; they gave each of us hugs and shook our hands expressing their gratitude. You can feel the warmth and generosity they shower on you everyday of your stay. The bus stop was one minute away and we had no trouble commuting. I would highly recommend this place. It's a little away from the touristic hustle bustle (5 minutes by car) but central enough to travel to all the scenic places. We are definitely going back to experience their hospitality. At Barilotto it's not only professional but its personal and thats what you come home with--memories that you will cherish forever.

Room Tip: Rooms on the top floor are newly renovated & have the best view.

Took my partner to Positano for his 40th as he always dreamed of visiting Pompeii, this was our little bit of luxury! - Giovanni cannot do enough to please, sea views are outstanding and the home cooked food is just out of this world - exceeded all expectations. This is a reasonably priced stay and worth every penny, I would much rather stay somewhere like this, than spend hundreds on a pretentious hotel. A walk into the town of Positano but if you plan to do any of the mountain walks - a great base to have! A warm homely ambience - will definitely come back!

My boyfriend and I had the pleasure of staying at Barilotto last August and could not have been happier. Giovanni and his family were the beyond warm and accommodating hosts and immediately made us feel like part of their family.

Initially, we stayed in one of the standard rooms but decided to move to a premium room for the remainder of our stay and Giovanni was happy to help us. While slightly pricier, these rooms are newer with lovely private terraces overlooking the ocean (definitely recommended).

Breakfast was fresh fruit and bread each day overlooking the Mediterranean and dinner (when we chose to eat there) was incredible seafood, pasta and homemade wine.

Although downtown Positano is within walking distance, on more than one occasion, Giovanni arranged for someone to drive us into town. Another day, when we shared our plans to spend the afternoon at the beach, he called ahead and made us a reservation (without us knowing) and we were given a beach spot as soon as we arrived.

It was truly a special experience - I hope we have an opportunity to stay here again. Grazie mille Giovanni!
