We spent a lot of time researching hotels in Positano prior to booking Hotel Ancora. It far exceeded our expectations. The location is PERFECT - gives you a perfect view and is very close to the main streets/beach. The rooms are spacious, beautiful terrace, I could go on and on. The staff at the front desk were extremely helpful as we did not know what we were doing and had never been to Positano. You can hear the waves crashing as your fall asleep and wake up, and the breakfast is great. It really was an amazing hotel for the value. You can't beat it! We even told the locals where we stayed and they all agreed it is their favorite.

Wonderful location midway up the hillside - a short walk to the beach/central area, yet out of the way of the main crowds. Our suite was very spacious, with great views off of the terrace. The terrace was nice to relax on with a table/chairs and also reclining chairs. We also loved use of the sister hotel pool. It was about a ten minute walk, but a great location overlooking the harbor and Positano from a different viewpoint, and great poolside bar/food service too. Wonderful to relax there after a day sightseeing. The front desk staff at L'Ancora - Giuseppe and Carmen - were extremely helpful, and assisted us with planning a trip to the Naples Archeological museum on our return (which I highly recommend!). This hotel does not get a 5 star because: the breakfast was just fair, the room did not have enough dresser space, and there was a paint supply storage closet outside of our room which was smelly (although the smell did not penetrate our room) Also, we had some minor construction/renovation work being done in the hotel just below ours, which was a bit noisy, but I assume that was temporary. We were in suite 221.

The hotel was very nice. It had the best breakfast of our 5 hotel trip in Italy. We stayed in a junior suite that was a phenomenal room. Even more phenomenal was the patio which was extremely large with an excellent view. The staff was very nice and all spoke English. They also happily arranged out private transfer to and from the Napoli train station.

Our stay would have easily been a 5 star stay if our hot tub's heating element worked. For spending 300+ Euros a night, you expect the hot tub which is a selling point for the room to work. The staff that was working was mostly helpful though as they were able to swap the water out with hot water which allowed us to use the hot tub for about half the time we actually wanted to use it.

This would have been all forgiven if the manager had acknowledged that the hot tub did not work and therefore the room was not as advertised. However this did not happen and we were still charged full price for this suite. I would recommend any room in the hotel that does not have a hot tub. But would absolutely not recommend a room with a hot tub after our experience.

Room tip: Ensure the hot tub heating element actually works.

My family and I just stayed here for four nights and had a fantastic time! The location was great, our room (jr suite with balcony and jacuzzi) was very nice, and the staff was extremely friendly (grazie, Pasquale). The view from our balcony was unbelievable. Breakfast was included, which helped start the day on a high note. Should we return to the Amalfi Coast, I could not imagine staying anywhere else!
