“A beautiful way to end an incredible Italian adventure”

The hotel is perfectly situated for stunning views, proximity to the best restaurants, and a short walk to the beach areas. The view from our room was amazing, and the suite was well appointed, clean and comfortable. The staff service were impeccable with their service and their warmth. A true family of caring individuals.

This was our first visit to the Amalfi coast, and the Hotel Poseidon was the perfect base. We had adjoining rooms for my wife and I, and our three children, with balconies overlooking the stunning town and sea. All the hotel staff we met were friendly and welcoming, from the reception to the restaurant, pool and chambermaids. The buffet breakfast was taken on a glorious terrace, and we enjoyed two evening meals with live music. The children loved the swimming pool, and I sat in the shade of an orange tree whilst Nicola sunbathed. When our youngest was sick in the hire-car on the winding road to Vesuvius, the staff went beyond the call of duty, and somehow removed the awful smell! Although we were the only guests with children staying at the time, we were made to feel very comfortable in this family run hotel full of character. The location was great as we could easily walk down the shop lined road to the beach, and would walk back up the (300 plus) steps. We would definately recommend the hotel, and would love to return.

We stayed at the Poseidon for 4 nights, celebrating a very special birthday, and having looked at pretty much every hotel in Positano!

The hotel is in a good location, just outside the centre (an easy 10 minute walk down, shorter if you take the stairs past the car park) and less easy but still do-able 15 minute walk up. Directly across the road is a delighful deli where we bought the most amazing sandwiches and processco and ate them on our balcony, thus avoiding the rather expensive mini bar charges!

We chose the hotel based on the availability of the Funny suite - if you read previous reviews, you'll read a lot about the "Funny" rooms which are on the very top floor of the hotel with oversized balconies accessed through an oversized window. The funny suite is one of these rooms, set off to the left with its own lounge and wrap around balcony. The balcony was enormous. We spent 2 sunny days reading and sunbathing there all day with so much space left over!! We would highly recommend either the suite, or the funny rooms, to anyone who stays in Positano. The views are unobstructed and amazing.

As we stayed at the hotel for 4 nights we got an offer of a free 3 course meal from their standard menu which was just lovely. We ate outside with blankets for when it dropped cold and the view was amazing, especially watching the sun go down and the lights of the town come on. The food was very good and service great. 3 nights a week they have live music which is lovely - although does go on till midnight and is audible in the rooms.

Breakfast was fine - not amazing, but a decent enough choice and the tables outside were lovely.

So why a 4 star rather than the 5? Well, we struggled a bit to find the "amazing service" which everyone is talking about. The staff were polite but that was all we found - we didn't feel amazingly well looked after. I suppose the biggest example of this is that before we arrived at the hotel my husband emailed to ask the hotel if they could sort a cake for my birthday (for which he was expecting to pay!), could we sort the vintage car hire etc. The email back just said "we'll sort it when you get here". So for someone who likes a plan, that didn't really help. On arrival, we were asked if we wanted the car but nothing else was mentioned of my birthday. As a comparison, a b&b we stayed in Sorrento which was half the price baked me a cake and wished me a happy birthday! Just little things - maybe it was just us but I suppose for nearly 400 euros a night we expected excellent service: and it was just OK.

Room Tip: Funny rooms or funny suite have HUGE balconies. Funny suite is almost detached and so more private.

Thank you Hotel Poseidon for a great stay and family vaca. Your front desk crew...professional, friendly and helpful, as well as housekeeping, do an excellent job. The morning breakfast buffet is fantastic. The hotel itself is lovely and spacious. Several nights a week we enjoyed live music at the hotel, It is a short walk to all the shops, cafes, restaurants and beach...well situated. We LOVED the view of the mtn side village and ocean from our bdrm balcony. There is a pool area, as well as a restaurant. They offer a large outdoor dining area/lounging area as well as indoor...very comfortable. I can't say enough good things. Our rooms 7 and 8 had a connecting door which was convenient. This was our last stop on our Italy tour and our favorite hotel stay and town of the four places we visited. Hope to stay with and see you again. Ciao!

We stayed at Hotel Poseidon in May and LOVED the hotel. The views were beautiful and our room was very comfortable. We especially enjoyed relaxing poolside with champagne and excellent service. The hotel is a very short walk without stairs to our favorite restaurants Da Vincenzo (dinner) and Casa e Bottega (brunch). We will stay here again during our next trip to the Amalfi Coast.

Room Tip: We stayed in a Superior Sea View room and loved enjoying wine and cheese on our balcony. The view w...

There was just nothing wrong with hotel. We had a Funny Room, which comes with an incredible view of the city and the beach looking out off a large terrace. The staff, the room, the hotel layout, all was great. For a hotel built in the 50's it had old world charm combined with modern amenities. I highly recommend it. Well situated too, not too high up the hill. Ask for room 45.

Room Tip: Didn't use the spa but other guests raved.

We booked online and were hopeful that the pictures were what we would find. The hotel met and exceeded our expectations. The views and location were outstanding. The staff was helpful and courteous. The room was clean and the view from our patio was picture perfect. Would not stay anywhere else.
