Breathtaking, Picturesque, Friendly, Relaxing, Memorable are all adjectives I would use to describe Positano. My wife and I traveled to Italy in June 2009 and began our trip with 3 nights in Positano and followed it up with 3 nights in Rome, 3 nights in Florence and closed it out with 2 nights in Venice. We stayed in a hotel called Villa Rosa in Positano, very great stay and very hospitable. The city is built on to the steep sides of the mountains right along the Almafi Coast so be prepared for a lot of steps everywhere. You can take a quick day trip to the Isle of Capri and tour the Blue Grotto and the Fraglioni Rocks, the different colors of the residences, restaurants and inns with a combination of the blue sea and flowers everywhere made this stop in Italy, our favorite and really the only place we would definitely have to go back to on our next European Vacation. Enjoy!

We loved this hotel! My boyfriend and I spent 10 days in Italy and ended in the stunning town of Positano. We couldn't have picked a better choice for our stay. The hotel was walking distance to town, the beach, shops, restaurants and gave great recommendations on things to do and places to eat. The views were breathtaking. The friendly staff will arrange your car service to local restaurants if available, and also helped us book our car service to and from Positano. The rooms were adorable, loved the decoration and the terrace was exceptional. The breakfast that was delivered to the terrace every morning was quite a treat. I would stay here again in a heartbeat and would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the area!

This hotel was great. The staff was friendly, helpful and very nice. They went out of their way to make our stay special. The breakfast in our room was a very nice touch.

Pros:
Can't beat breakfast in bed.
Good knowledgeable staff.
Wireless internet was a nice touch.

Cons:
Stairs - we were fine, but if you have knee problems this might not be your hotel.

My wife and I just got back from our honeymoon in Italy and our room at the Villa Rosa was unreal. The room interior was quaint and comfortable - amenities included an in-room safe, a fridge, TV with satellite (though with limited channels - but who cares when you're in Positano?), and a hair dryer. We found the room to be very comfortable and we slept well.

The best part of the room, however, was the terrace. The terrace was spacious and included a small dining table with chairs, a patio umbrella, 2 beach chairs and a smaller table for drinks. The terrace was decorated lavishly with plants and flowers - it was gorgeous! My favorite experience in Positano was getting our free breakfast on the terrace. Getting to dine on fresh croissants and sip cappuccino in the warm morning air while looking out at Positano and the Mediterranean Sea... it was breathtaking.

The service was top notch. They spoke English well, were patient, and very helpful. The hotel location was fabulous.

All in all we had an unforgettable experience at this hotel. It helps of course that the hotel is in one of the most beautiful cities in the world and the weather was gorgeous, but the hotel is to be commended. I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a simple, comfortable hotel with a great view and great service. If you're looking for more of a posh or elegant hotel, Le Sirenuse (across the street) may be more up your alley - but I don't think you'd be disappointed with the Villa Rosa.

One word of warning - I don't believe there is an elevator in the hotel. You have to navigate roughly 4 flights of stairs (two up and two down) to get to the front desk, and you need to take stairs to get to the guest rooms. We had a room on the third floor (rooms of the third and fourth floors were recommended by other TripAdvisor users) so we got lots of exercise for the 3 days we were there. It didn't bother us but some people may have difficulties.

We enjoyed our 2 nights stay at Villa Rosa and wished we could stay longer. The hotel is slightly uphill from the port/beach area and there are some stairs to climb to get to your room, however this should be expected if you choose to visit Positano.

We did not have a sea view from our terrace, but a view straight into the wall of the hotel across the street. This was not a problem for us. If sea view is important to you, make sure that you book a room with sea view and expect to pay a higher rate.

Liked:
- location
- the friendly and helpful staff
- the size of the room
- the size of the beds (but the beds are hard as all italian beds)
- the aircondition
- the terrace

Disliked
- the breakfast was very "sweet" with croissants, jam and honey. We would have preferred a less sweet option with buns ham/salami.

We started our trip and got married there. We stayed in room 25 at the Villa Rosa. The terrace was wonderful. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. I loved having breakfast in our room and on our terrace at the time we chose. The Villa Rosa is so very charming. We hope to return next year to the same room.
