Villa la Quercia
Ranked #33 of 53 Positano B&B and Inns
Reviewed 25 June 2012

We spent 4 nights at this lovely B&B.

Firstly the view is breathtaking. We had a fantasic view of Positano, and in our opinion it was much better to stay at a place where you could see Positano from afar as opposed staying there. Also, it's a place where you can get away from all the crowds and enjoy the peace and serenity that the Amalfi has to offer.

As the the B&B is in Nocelle, which is about 1/2 hour bus ride from Positano, it is a bit of a pain to get to by public transport. But if you have a car or take a taxi (with your luggage) it is really easy. Yes, there are lots of stairs, but pack light and you will be fine! The bus service to Positano runs every hour and if you time it right, you won't have to wait around for very long.

Our hosts Carmella and Salvatore were so nice and helpful. Breakfast service was always a joy and they went that extra mile to help us organise a car to take us back to Naples for a very reasonable price.

Would definitely stay here again!

We found Villa La Quercia accidently and were pleasantly amazed at the beauty of the location, the friendliness of the people, and the excitement getting to and from Nocelle. This B&B is small and every room has a balcony overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Our hosts were extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms were very clean. The bus ride to and from the town of Positano every day was all the entertainment you will need with the steep mountain road and crazy traffic. There are 2 nice restaurants in Nocelle for dinner and continental breakfast was included with the very reasonable room rate. Do not be surprised by the amount of walking you will do up and down hills and stairs in this region. We would definitely stay here again.

Just a quick note. Felicia from villa LaQuercia has helped us book a wonderful spot in Nocelle area of Positano. Her help and kindness in finding the right situation for us has made this experience a pleasure. We are indebted to her and look forward to our trip in May of 2013. WaltC

We were two couples that are also family, traveling through Italy and enjoying the Italian experience. We booked two rooms at the Villa la Quercia after a friend had stayed in Nocelle two years ago at a different bed and breakfast. The rooms were clean with having a private balcony and a gorgeous view of the ocean. Each room had a clean bathroom. Breakfast was served every morning including espresso, Americano caffe, cappuccino and orange juice. There are many stairs to walk up and down as you come and go from the B&B. This is all part of the experience of living in the Amalfi coast area where everything is built on a hillside. We were higher from the coast than we expected however, the local bus could drive you into town each day. We would stay here again if we traveled back to this area.

Room Tip: Each room has a great view of the ocean.

Ok, first of all... if you are driving to this B&B take the road to Nocelle and go till the road ends. Then STOP and do not drive in that area again until you leave.

OK, now about the B&B. The hosts were very nice there, they weren't as available to talk or give advice as I would have liked, but they were very very nice. The room was again, nice. It was kind of "rugged" but clean and the view was astonishing. The breakfast was alright & the cappuccino was tasty. The B&B sits above a farm, this being said there is a farm smell, and farm sounds that you hear regularly. The rooster crows around 5, then again at 630, then again around 7. There is a constant "burning" smell as well as a cow smell. It didn't overly bother us because we live in Wisconsin and that is common for us to smell, but I could see how it would be irritating to city-folk.

There were 2 restaurants, one was a pizza place and the other a more formal indoor place. I DO NOT recommend the pizza place. It wasn't good. We loved the other though, and wished we went there for all of our meals. We did the walk of the gods and it was utterly amazing. I would do it all again, except for the part where we took the wrong turn and ended up going down about 1000 god-created steps to get to Priano.

I give MUCH credit to the bus drivers for their trek up and down the mountain in the giant busses. I would recommend taking the bus up and down to avoid being SO SWEATY when you visit Positano at the bottom.

With all that said, I would def stay here again, now that I know what I know.

IN ADVANCE: THIS PLACE IS GREAT.
BUT Keep in mind:
The journey with the minibus up to Nochelle, and to the house is crazy.
The bus run hourly daytime, in the evening 2 hours. The ride is quite long (25 minutes). We were frightened and scared. / only the first time :-) / And worried if we can catch it in time.
In that case, you are with ( heavy ) luggage, and not with backpack, the walk to the house is difficult due to hundreds of steps.

Overall:
Clean, nice rooms
Beautiful view from the balcony and terrace as well
Friendly and helpful host
Breakfast was ok
Good price
Countryside feeling ( dogs, cats, cocks)
Nice walk down to Positano ( 45 minutes), but dont try backwards.
Positano, Amalfi and ravello beautiful.

Good stay!
