Ceramica Assunta has two locations on Via C. Colombo, and both offer similar merchandise. This means you can have them check stock for you if they don't have what or enough of what you'd like.

The pottery is of high quality, made in the family shop by their artists. Their modern collection was of particular interest to me, although it is still in development.

Shipping rates are reasonable, but are up-to-and-including specific weight graduations. So, you save on shipping when you buy more. Of course, negotiate a price discount for multiple items.

Staff was friendly and engaging.

Fell in love with locally made Solimene ceramic dishes during our stay in Positano. This place had a great variety of products. They were super helpful when it came to finding the patterns we liked & packaged everything in an easy to carry box.

This was our first visit to Italy and of course we over-packed! Did not help we traveled by train from city to city...which BTW Italy has a fantastic train system...we bought some wonderful pieces of pottery, Murano glass, etc. and realized if we tried to bring them on the plane we would be charged beaucoup bucks. In Positano we stumbled upon a wonderful pottery shop called Ceramica Assunta...we bought some pieces and inquired about shipping which by this point seemed the only way we could get our purchases home economically. We asked if they would be wiling to ship all of the pieces we purchased from our trip and they said "Sure"...well maybe they did not say "sure" (!) but they were more than happy to help us out. We brought all of our purchases including Limoncello (!) to them and they took it all and said the charge would be what the actual shipping charge would be. Within about three weeks of returning home we received two boxes containing all of the items we purchased...intact and packed perfectly. We hope when you visit Positano you visit Ceramica Assunta and they speak English very well which was so helpful to us!

Spent several days in Positano this September 2009 and went to Ceramica Assunte because it has the #1 rating on Trip Advisor (which I rely on heavily for my vacations). After going in the first time and looking around at how great the selection, we decided to continue on to look at all of the different designs that the many other pottery shops had to offer before deciding and would then come back if we did not find anything else. We did not even really notice it at first, but soon after looking around we realized that the owner/counter worker there was rude. Every other store we went in to had friendly service that was eager to help. After finding what we thought we liked at Emporio della Ceramica (about 500 yards to the left of Ceramica Assunte if facing the entrance, just across from the split in the road that goes down to the beach... it has glass steps going up to all the ceramics upstairs), we decided to go back to Ceramica Assunte again to make sure that we had not just gotten the wrong impression. While there the second time, the owner hissed at us to not touch the ceramics that we were interested in from across the room. He then looked back down at whatever he was reading at the counter and did not even for a second attempt to assist us in the least. He did not even as much as say hello or goodbye to a buying customer. We then left and returned to Emporio della Ceramica down the street to buy 10 place settings from the owners there. At Emporio della Ceramica, the owners were a middle aged couple that spoke excellent English and were more than willing to help. They encouraged us to pick up the China so that they could explain exactly how it was made, what to look for in good China, etc. This was all done the first time we came into the store when they thought we were just average shoppers, not the last time we came back when they knew we were buyers. It is not like me to make such a long winded review, but Trip Advisor has it completely wrong with its suggestions for Positano. I will get nothing from this from Emporio della Ceramica, but I think a job well done above and beyond is worth letting other loyal Trip Advisor readers know about. Do yourself a favor and do not settle for poor service and rudeness at Ceramica Assunte when much, much better attitudes can be found not only at Emporio della Ceramica but at nearly every other ceramic store we visited in Positano.
