“Far far away”

By bus, it was quite an adventure! Buses are uncertain...But the ruins at this site with the sea as landscape were amazing!

“Dissappointing”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 July 2014

Like many I suspect, our principle reason for visiting Cumae was to see the cave of the Sibyl. It was listed at the entrance as one of the features so one would reasonably expect it to be open. Well it wasn't. Not only that there's absolutely no signposting, a few grossly inadequate maps and a ridiculous number of staff (more than there were visitors) all with a common goal of being completely unhelpful. Yes, it's a pleasant enough site with some views of the (flat) coastline but, given the proximity of Pompeii, Herculaenium and the extraordinary views along the Amalfi Coast I'd leave this place low on your list of to dos until they reopen the cave.

“Amazing!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 July 2014

A wonderful place that has nothing less than the most famous of Pompeii, in this place there is history that adds to the history, unfortunately the place is not easy to get to then I can suggest to rent a car, preferably driven by a chauffeur of the place.

“Stunning place”

Cumae and the Cumae ruins are something unique you need to visit once your lifetime. The ruins are reachable by car or by bus (very easy to be found). Walking around the ruins it is like a trip in the past. You find greek temples, statues and the famous sybill's cavern. Beware that you need to walk, therefore make sure you wear confortable shoes. From the top of the hill you can enjoy an amazing view of the gulf.

“Step Back Into History!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 May 2014

This is a must-see if you are in the area! Plan for about two hours and make sure you have some good, sturdy walking shoes. There are some slight uphill climbs on rocky roads, but they are easily manageable. (I did the walk with my 7-months pregnant wife.) The entry fee is 4 Euro, but it is worth every cent. The site is well organized, clearly marked, and has information boards in both Italian and English. There are some spectacular views throughout the area, and no shortage of places to snap some pictures. This place is well worth the visit!

The following applies to most places you may visit in Campania.....

Some of the other reviews mentioned the "parking lot attendant" being a nuisance. He must have had the day off when we visited. But, having lived in the local area for 2+ years, I can say with certainty that you will come across them every now and again. If you tell them "dopo" (meaning you will pay them after you return), they will leave you alone and very well may save you from a broken window. If you give 50 cents Euro, that will suffice. In my experience, it is well worth the hassle!
