Al Vecchio Pioppo is a bed and breakfast centrally located near the beach, shopping and restaurents in Praia A Mare. The accomodations were simple and clean.
The oweners however were very attentive. Gaetano spend an entire morning with us showing us the highlights and telling us the history of the town.
On our last night his wife prepared an very elaborate vegeterian Italian meal.
The antipasta was extraordinary, several of the components where home made as was the wine that flowed freely.. The courses that followed made us wish that we could stay longer and learn how to cook such fine Italian cuisine.
The only negative was a lack of internet access which in today's world is basic in any hotel or B&B.
In conclusion I would highlt recommend Al Vecchio Pioppo to travelers to Italy

I was travelling around south Italy and i hv found out on tripadvisor this little cute B&B managed by an amazing young local couple. The place its fantastic and the hospitality even more Antonella & Gaetano are great hosts and have this genuine hospitality that only southern ppl can propose.
The rooms are comfortable, cosy and affordable, very clean (which is rarely found even on 5* Hotels).
I loved this place and i recommend it to everyone who needs a calm and relaxed holidays.

You must come to Praia A Mare and stay in this fantastic B&B run by the hospitable Gaetano and Antonella. We have travelled extensively throughout Europe, primarily in Italy, and this has been our favourite place to stay. The B&B is exquisite. Gaetano is a master restorer which is obvious from the mahogany staircase leading to the upper floor, to the beautiful furnishings and individual appointments. Each room has been carefully finished in differing but traditional décor in keeping with the region. The hosts go above and beyond to ensure your stay is memorable. They are generous and kind with their time, their knowledge of the region and their expertise in the wine and cuisine of Southern Italy.

We love Al Vecchio Pioppo so much, we have cut short our stay in Sicily and will be returning to Praia A Mara for another visit on our way back to Rome. A stay in this region and B&B is a must for anyone travelling in the area.

You must also go to Rinaldi's for the absolute best pizza and enjoy the traditional Southern Italian atmosphere.

We have probably stayed in worse places, but it was a long time ago and we can’t remember where. We stayed here towards the end of January for one night. We were warmly welcomed and the room was clean, alas, that’s where the good news ended. Despite arriving within minutes of our agreed meeting time, no attempt whatsoever had been made to either warm our room or the whole building – both were stone cold. This was made worse as the heating proved to be not fit for use, as even after a whole night, the room temperature never rose above cold. The room also had an almost overpowering aroma from air fresheners.
After we got over the psychedelic patterned green and blue coloured bed linen, we noticed that it was a little tired and covered with an eider down that had seen better decades. Moving on to the bathroom; no heat and the hot water was insufficient for even one shower let alone two. The towels were more like cardboard and had little pile and certainly little drying capability. As for breakfast, we cannot comment as we did want to stay here any longer than necessary and moved out before it was served. The accommodation was expensive and if we could have found somewhere else to stay, we would have moved there. Never again.

Al Vecchio Pioppo is an incredible find in an idyllic place like Praia a Mare. Its proximity to the beach and other amenities make it so. Its rooms are affordable, air-conditioned, clean, accomodating and elegant; graciously decorated with a mixture of antiquities and comfortable furniture. Its owners Gaetano and Antonella are equally gracious hosts, preparing traditional Calabrian gastronomical offerings at the request of the guests. The boat excursion we took with Gaetano only served to increase our infatuation with this holiday spot in sunny southern Italy. Two thumbs up.

Antonella and Gaetano are great hosts who took care perfectly for us. They make great wine by their self - taste it, we preferred the red one! We truly liked this place and recommend it to everyone who needs a relaxed stay. See you in Calabria!
For those who want to fly: you need an 4x4 car to reach the start in Praia a mare but you may also fly in Maratea, both are great spots.
