“A friendly hotel, great owner and great views”
Reviewed 23 March 2013

We stayed at the hotel in March, a very quiet month along the coast. Some of the public spaces were a little cold in the morning for breakfast and in the evening for dinner (very nice for 30 euros on par with restaurants in the town) but the owners were warm and friendly. Breakfast was simple but good quality.

Room 108 had a great view from the bed looking down the Amalfi coast towards Capri, a great start to the morning and a lovely stop to watch the sun go down with a few beers.

The room was clean and overall we thought it was good value, we'd be really happy to stay again.

I had read the reviews of others prior to booking my stay. I was not disappointed. very clean. excellent view of the coastline. the wireless internet was excellent. Pillows and bed were a little hard for my preference but it was not an issue. the owner/manager was a very nice gentleman who spoke fairly good english. they have private parking for a limited number of cars. I felt that it was excellent value.

My wife, adult daughter and I stayed in Praiano at the Hotel Smeraldo for one night in December 2012. My daughter wanted to experience the Amalfi coast and indeed, this location worked well as we were able to hike up a long staircase which started near the hotel entrance and ended at a Convent 1,000 feet above sea level. We then proceeded from there further up to the Path of the Gods before turning around and heading back down. It was about a 2-1/2 hour hike with breaks and included beautiful vistas. Besides being a good location, the hotel was clean and comfortable and our room had a beautiful view of the Bay. However, it appeared that we were the only ones staying there, thus the common spaces were cold and even the room heater struggled to keep our room warm. We did not realize that Praiano would be completely devoid of activity in December and were happy that the owner offered to make us dinner. The dinner and breakfast were very good and we felt well-taken care of. A final surprise came at the end when we were settling the bill and told that they would not accept credit cards, which required me to walk to a nearby ATM and withdraw a sufficient amount of cash. All in all, I felt that the owners were trying hard to make our stay pleasant; it's just that Winter is not the best time to visit the Amalfi Coast. In contrast, the Sorrento side of the coast (where we stayed the following evening) is bustling with activity during this season.

We only stayed one night in this hotel and were lucky enough to have the one room with a jacuzzi on the balcony. Absolutely fantastic! I think it was room 153, The view was breathtaking of Capri and Positano and the jacuzzi way too much fun.

The room was furnished very nicely although unfortunately not all the television channels worked even though the remote sat on a Sky tv advert.

Breakfast was very nice too, plenty of choice.

In regards to parking, the staff could not have been more helpful taking our car to and from the parking place for us so we didn't have to worry about it.

The hotel is central enough and has a gate to the steps that take you down to the "beach" (really a concrete beach but don't let this put you off, the bar where we sunbathed was great with fantastic food and cocktails).

I only regret that we did not get to eat here as even the locals were saying how good the food is here, but we only had the one night in Praiano and really wanted to go out and explore. Ah well, next time!

Also, they let us check in pretty early (before check-in i believe) which was very nice of them, although we weren't offered a drink when we arrived (a pleasantry I had gotten used to on the Amalfi coast) despite the heat.

but would definitely recommend. Great good value hotel.

Room Tip: If you can, get the room with the jacuzzi on the balcony! 153 I think!

Hote Smeraldo was just the perfect place to stay in Praiano. The room was large and comfortable with a big balcony overlooking the sea. Amazing views also from the restaurant which made breakfast and dinner very special. The food was really good and service was friendly and efficient. Would definitely recommend or stay again!

My first experience with this establishment was via e-mail and the interaction was quick & pleasant and informative. Once arrived, we couldn't believe how adorable the hotel was and what a specatular view! The dining balcony for breakfast & dinner overlook the coast with a fantastic view of Positano. The food was exquisite.... the service excellent & friendly... the rooms were cute & CLEAN... This family run hotel should be visited by everyone. I will definitely be back!!
