“"Steep walk, but wonderful host"”
Reviewed 22 September 2013

If you're looking for a friendly, family-run place that offers some peace and quiet amidst the throngs of tourists, Locanda degli Dei is perfect. Franco is a kind host who does everything he can to make your stay pleasant, and his daughter and son regularly help out at the family establishment. The rooms are very spacious and beautiful - very good value for the price - with beautiful views over the sea. We stayed in the two rooms on the ground floor, which open onto a private garden terrace where breakfast is served every morning. Breakfast is delicious - every day we were given croissants with different fillings, a type of cake, toast and jams, coffees, juice, yoghurt and platters of ham and cheese. The locanda is very high up, but the steep walk was manageable and Franco lifted us to the main road and to restaurants whenever we wanted to. The views were spectacular, and for such good value, this is a place I'd come back to any day!

This is a great B&B on Amalfi coast between Positano and Amalfi. The rooms are very clean with great attention to detail. Franco and his son are fantastic hosts. Although high up where a car might be advisable, we survived a week and got plenty of exercise up and down the steps. Fantastic views and a great way to wear off all that pasta!lLoved or breakfasts on the patio in the morning! A great way to start the day!

Very well located if you have your car is located between Positano and Amalfi in Praiano. Clean, excellent breakfast and stunning view from the rooms. The family running the business is very helpful but , I should admit, all over Amalfi Coast they pamper guess.

A couple of days training on the steep slopes and steps and you are ready to skip up and down to the main road of Praiano and the bus stop. We stayed for 10 nights - Rooms were kept super clean and maintained daily - the sheets were changed every couple of days. Days of sugar based breakfasts were demanding .. but, as noted elsewhere here, Franco and son Gianni are happy to accommodate your need for a change. We had the ground floor terrace which was great in the sun and a good vantage point from which to watch the amazing storm that rolled in one night.
Franco and his family are very friendly and helpful - Franco collected us from the bar at the bottom of the road when we arrived and gave us a lift to the bus stop when we left.
Compared to many locations on the road from Amalfi to Sorrento it is a dream.
Highly recommended

I booked my 3 night stay at Locando degli Dei in May 2013 only 1 day prior to arrival and was not disappointed. The B&B sits at the very top of the sleepy town of Praiano. Be forewarned, if you are on foot, this hotel is accessed on a winding uphill road (20 minutes on foot or 7 minutes by car) or up steep stone steps (15-30 minutes on foot, depending on how many "scenic" breaks you take). I found that there were many signs leading the way up to the B&B, so it was not difficult to find, as long as you kept your eyes open. I had a rental car and found that there was always parking available on the street near the hotel. My room was very comfortable with a jacuzzi style tub and the most stunning view that I've ever seen. The cappuccinos and breakfast spread of croissants and pastries were delicious. DO stay in Praiano and AVOID the crowds in Positano. DO hike from Praiano to Positano via the Path of the Gods. There are signs in Praiano leading you to the start of the hike. This B&B is worth the hike. Besides, it's a good excuse to eat more pasta!

Room Tip: Venere was a great room with a great view and a jacuzzi bathtub.

We stayed here for the last weekend of October to celebrate my husband's birthday. We had much difficulty finding the B&B. Even the bus driver was not sure where it was located. We walked up a mountain and avoided the hundreds of steps leading to this place, but I am not sure which would be worse, especially with luggage. We were ecstatic when we finally found the B&B. We stayed in the Bacco room which is exactly as pictured. Franco immediately fixed cappucinos for us and arranged for us to have a birthday dinner at a local restaurant. He arranged a free taxi service for us to and from. During the night there was a wind and rain storm. The emergency lights came on for awhile then automatically shut off. The next morning the chairs on our terrace were scattered everywhere. Franco served us breakfast in his breakfast area and then took us to the bus stop so we could explore the coast. We took the stairs, all 300 of them, back to the B&B and would not have found our way without the help of a woman who kept pointing which direction to go. Saturday night we had another wind and rain storm. After breakfast, Franco took us to the bus so we could catch the train in Amalfi back to Rome. Since this was close to the end of the "season", we took a chance on the weather. We would love to revisit and see blue sky and water, but we would only return if we had a car. This place is not accessible by foot with any type of luggage, including a backpack. Franco did his best to accommodate us, loaning an umbrella for our outings. After visiting all the towns along the coast, we decided that Sorrento would be our choice next time. Thank you, Franco, for all you did to make our stay a great Italian memory.

Room Tip: The Bacco room has a terrace and a great view

Very nice sea views.Very friendly host. Thanks for good cappucinos and the homemade cake :)

However, off-season is not the best time to visit amalfi coast (beginning of November in our case). Deep stone-walls (while good for hot weather) and rainy weather make rooms chilly/moist and sea views are much greater with a sunshine.

So, we plan to come back on a sunny season time, then it would be perfect.
