This hotel was recommended to us by a friend who had stayed there several years ago. I did not exactly understand the geography of the Amalfi Coast when I booked this hotel, but it ended up working out well.
Most people say to stay in Positano, but Praiano was a perfect spot in between the two extremely touristy towns of Amalfi and Positano. This hotel is actually on the outskirts of Positano. We rented a scooter and were able to navigate the entire Amalfi Coast with this as our homebase. (Definitely recommend renting a scooter if you're adventurous-it was the best way to see the coast!)
We stayed four nights at this gorgeous hotel. The view from our room was phenomenal. I even got up to take sunrise pictures one morning! The layout of the hotel is interesting; when you arrive in the parking lot, you take an elevator down to the -4 floor (or something like that) to get to the front desk. The hotel rooms are all located above-to give better views. Our hotel room was a bit of a challenge to get to, we had to go down a flight of stairs, across a deck and then back up another flight of stairs...however, this gives the other guests complete privacy on their terraces (it meant we were not walking right in front of their rooms every time we passed by).
The room was very spacious as was the bathroom. The rooms were also extremely clean and tidy. There was a nice dresser to store any clothes that needed to be hung. The bed was comfortable as well.
One down side is that the hotel does not have any 'main area' to relax, have a drink or interact with other guests. There is a small part of the dining room that can be used when in between meal times, but it isn't very inviting. There is no area that can be considered a true bar.
The breakfast was delicious, probably the best breakfast on our trip (we were in Italy for 16 days). They always had scrambled eggs (or the chef would fix you whatever you preferred) and bacon. They also had a ton of fresh fruit, cheeses and meats. We never ate dinner at the hotel. We had dessert one night and it was pretty good, though.
The girl at the front desk in the mornings was always very helpful and friendly; however, sometimes I felt like the other front desk staff could be a little stuffy and cold when we chatted with them. When making dinner reservations one night, we felt like the young man at the front desk was pushing their restaurant on us-we ended up having to make our own reservations elsewhere because he made us feel so uncomfortable asking him to make reservations for us (and then we were charged for the local phone call upon checkout!) Another time we mentioned heading to Sorrento for the day and we were advised not to go because "there is nothing there to see." We went anyway and had a great day--great shopping and lunch spots (Inn Bufalito-one of my favorite meals in Italy). On the other hand, my computer charger stopped working while we were in Italy and the owner brought his daughter's charger from home twice to allow me to charge my computer--thank you!!
This hotel is also conveniently located right near one of the few beaches on Amalfi Coast. It is a rocky beach but nice and not too busy. It's also an easy place to catch a boat over to the Emerald Grotto instead of taking the bus.
We had a great time on the Amalfi Coast and enjoyed the quiet beauty of Praiano and Hotel Onda Verde.
