Hotel La Perla is a charming hillside hotel with wonderful views and great service. Located on the main coastal road along the Amalfi Coast it is quiet and relaxing (bus stops right there - ask the driver) or a scenic 20 min walk to Praiano. It is close to the beach (10 minute descent).
The rooms are clean and comfortable, many with balconies and breathtaking sea views...
Breakfast was very good, plenty of sweet and savoury offerings; yogurt and fresh fruit all served on the open terrace overlooking the sea. Raphael makes great espressos and cappuccinos; he is quiet but friendly and very efficient. He takes great pride in keeping the restaurant/tables clean and is an excellent waiter during the breakfast and dinner service.
Chef Vincenzo ... The four of us arrived tired and hungry after a full day of hiking. Normally we would have gone to a restaurant outside of our hotel and into Praiano but decided to have dinner at the hotel. We were offered a fixed price menu, which changes daily (choices for primi and secondi - dessert included and a reasonable wine list/great prices also) ... The choices looked amazing and between the four of us, we were able to sample all. Finally - the flavors we were waiting for on the Amalfi Coast!
Up to that point we were a little disappointed in the meals we had in Amalfi where we tried various restaurants during the four days we spent there.
After the first bite we were blown away by the quality and flavor and almost licked our plates clean! The secondi (second course) was the same - all delicious and well prepared. Dessert was simple but very good. (oh... homemade ravioli/ricotta/spinach in a buttery sauce!!!)
We asked Raphael if we could thank the chef and he was beaming with pride. Chef Vincenzo was so thankful for our feedback! We said we would dine there again the following night and during the conversation we discussed gnocchi/gorgonzola - risotto/porchini - veal - seafood, etc ... it was fun talking about food and flavors with Chef Vincenzo!
The next morning during the continental breakfast, Raphael delivered the menu and to our surprise: Gnocchi with gorgonzola sauce; Risotto with porcini mushrooms; Linguine with scampi ... secondi choices: veal; mixed seafood plate and a pork dish. We mentioned how awesome the food was to some other hotel guests and they also made reservations for dinner.
We hiked all day and took many stairs down to the beach for a swim. Stopped off at one of the beach restaurants (Il Pirata)for an amazing bruschetta and beer - a little energy needed for the hike back up to the hotel.
We had dinner reservations for 8pm and once again we enjoyed every bite of the delicious offerings prepared by Chef Vincenzo - THANK YOU for another outstanding meal. We are back home in Calgary and hope to send future visitors to Hotel La Perla and Restaurant La Perla!
Overall: excellent value for money. A hotel we would recommend and visit again; free parking ... Chef Vincenzo, waiter and porter Raphael and the young man at the front desk (didn't get your name - sorry) - all went out of their way to make our visit memorable.
Great place to start your Walk of the Gods Path or visit Praiano at this little gem of a hotel.
