Beautiful Hotel in a stunning location overlooking the Amalfi seas. The town of Praiano is a short bus trip from Positano and Amalfi, where many tourists end up. As a family, two adults and a 16 years daugher, we loved Praiano and Hotel Continental as it is less busy and very relaxing. The Hotel has outstanding rooms overlooking the Amalfi and the town has a great 'local' feel to it. The family Maresca is very kind and try to help you in every way. //lars and Lena with daugher Emilia from Sweden

I had the pleasure of staying at this charming hotel with my boyfriend this autumn!
Perfect location for exploring the Amalfi Coast! Initially I thought it would be difficult to find, but this is not the case. You can take the Sita bus from either Positano or Amalfi & the stop is right in front of the hotel. There is also a little tobacco shop a few shops down from the hotel where you can purchase the bus tickets.
This was also a great location if you wanted to hike the 'Path of the Gods' (Sentiero degli Dei). Across the street from the hotel are steps which go up & up & up. Climb all of those and then hike for at least another hour and a half and you'll get to the starting point of the trail---and then you hike another 3 1/2 hours! Incredible views of the Amalfi Coast and definitely the highlight of my trip!
The owners (brothers) gave us a tour of some of the rooms & even showed us the Suite where Jackie O stayed! We had a nice sized room with a large armoire as well as a mini fridge (did not keep things cool though). Expect lots of steps up and down! (This really goes for anywhere along the Amalfi Coast).
The views were spectacular! Our room had a small terrace overlooking the sea which was breathtaking and also very peaceful. The terrace had a small table with chairs & we were surrounded by grape leaves & flowers. Beautiful!
Take the steps all the way down the sea---you can jump right in! Great little secluded beach---so easy to relax and let time pass.
The restaurant also had stunning views of the sea & the food was fantastic!!! We ate there every night and it was always fresh & delicious. There was usually a pasta dish followed by a main (veal scaloppine, fish). The wine was also excellent!
Overall, I would certainly recommend this reasonably priced hotel for anyone looking to get away from the crowds in Positano!

My partner and I had a wonderful week at the Continental this month. We stayed in one of the cabin rooms that perch on the cliff above the deep blue sea, among the morning glory and vines that trail everywhere and the olives and lemon trees that grow on the terraces around the hotel. The price was very reasonable when we compared it with other pensioni and hotels in Praiano.

We had a lovely private balcony where we could sunbathe in perfect peace and our room had all the conveniences that we needed - a newly fitted ensuite bathroom with an excellent shower, air conditioning, hairdryer and cool storage.

There's a little private landing stage directly below the hotel with a ladder into the sea - or you can dive into the water (I prefer entering the water more gradually!) and the swimming is safe for adults from there. A ten minute walk down the steps from the road past the hotel brings you to Praia beach, a beautiful little cove surrounded by high rock formations and cliffs, with restaurants and bars right by the sea. There, the swimming is very safe for anyone of any age. You can also book guided trips round the coast and to Capri, and water taxis to Amalfi or Positano.

The shops and bars of Praiano are a short walk in the other direction, either along the coast road or up the steps to the village which extends up to the church of San Luca. The Sita bus between Sorrento and Amalfi stops outside the hotel, and so do the local buses to Positano via the main part of the village. Amalfi and Positano are only twenty minutes away by bus. We had some lovely meals out in Amalfi.

The rooms are extremely quiet, even though the hotel is right on the main bus route, because they are placed on the side of the cliff below the traffic. It really is an idyllic setting.

Our hosts were extremely kind and helpful. The first evening we arrived quite late and ate at the hotel. The food was very tasty, in the traditional style of the region. The friendly, informal atmosphere would suit anyone who enjoys Italy, whether for walking in the hills or swimming in the sea, or just chilling out like we did. and we had a perfect stay. We shall certainly return there.

Options for camping on the Amalfi (other than in Sorrento) are limited so when i found this place on the internet I was really hopeful. Turns out when we got there, it cost 20 euros per night per person which is the most expensive campsite we've ever stayed in. The views were awesome and you did get access to the private rocky platform off which you could swim in the sea, but the camping terraces themselves were poorly maintained. At half the price it would have felt like a better deal.

Plus, it's a 10 minute walk into Praiano itself where all the action is in the evenings. After two nights camping we found a place in town which that cost us 50 euros per night for a double room including breakfast (fresh pastries from the bakery next door and coffee). So we abandoned the overpriced camping ground and moved into town.

My wife and I came to the Amalfi Coast for our Honeymoon, this was the only hotel we stayed at during our 10 day trip, and it is the only hotel I will stay at when I go back to this part of Italy.

First and foremost, the atmosphere at the Continental is relaxing, and uplifting. This is a family establishment that treats you as if you were part of the family.

The rooms are simply furnished but very comfortable. Our room had an A/C unit and a refrigerator. The shower was small but not horrible as described in other reviews. The bathroom was large enough to encompass two people at once.

The best part of the room was the terrace, our terrace was gorgeous and private, it overlooked the Mediterranean Sea. Fresh grapes and lemons grew in our terrace and we enjoyed the fruit immensely. The terrace also had a table with four chairs and was a great place to have breakfast or just relax.

The best part of this hotel is the service. During our stay we never had one problem with any aspect of the hotel. As the hotel is owned and operated by a family, you are treated as a member of the family and are afforded a great deal of hospitality. Truly the owners made both of us feel as if we were at home.

Dinner at this hotel is amazing, I have traveled all over Italy and Europe for that matter, and never have I eaten so well with such consistency. My wife and I only ate dinner elsewhere twice, both times in Positano, and suffice it to say, those meals were more expensive and did not make any sort of culinary impression on us. Dinner at the hotel is a wonderful experience, the food is excellent and the selection never disappointed me. If I can make one suggestion, it would be to eat dinner here every night.

I cant believe the how much the reviews of this place differ from the reality of it! We were gutted that we had booked to stay for so long (5nights) due to the good reviews- this is not a nice place to stay at all!
The first thing that got our backs up was being asked to pay up front- this never happened at any of the other places we stayed. I can see why they want you to do this as we would have left if we had the choice.
The staff can be extremely rude... we never saw any sign of these friendly brothers! I wish I could convey the look on one of their faces when we asked for coffee at the bar, it was a look of utter contempt! The whole place was so unfriendly, we felt like we were intruding in someones home, no one ever said hi or welcomed you, or encouraged us to eat at the restaurant. We did one night and were shocked to see a note on the menu saying the fish and meat were frozen! Why would you come on holidays to the coast to eat frozen fish??? The pasta and the house wine were good though.
The room was ok- we were in one of the outhouses. It was spacious but the cheap tacky furniture and flooring were depressing. The terrace got no sun and had no lighting so we didnt use it as much as we had hoped. Aircon was advertised as if it was included but you had to pay extra for it. If you dont vacate the room for cleaning by 9.30am it wont get cleaned.
As for the location, its much harder than it looks to get out of Praiano on public transport! The bus service is unreliable and we often waited 1hr plus in the sun at the bus stop for amalfi. Theres very little to do/see in Praiano so you are going to want to get out.

Maybe this place is better in peak season ( were were there end of August) but overall I would describe it as unfriendly and charmless. A smile and a hello costs nothing- guests shouldnt be treated as an inconvenience. It was the most expensive place we stayed (90e) and we would have gladly gone back to the Pensione MariaLuisa in Positano at 65e! It was a very sad disappointment.

Found the hotel through my guide book and checked it on trip advisor.

The best part about the hotel was dinner. Twice we ate in the hotel - we were the only guests to do so - and twice we had meals I will never forget! The chef was sitting out on the balcony when we mentioned we'd like to have dinner. He and his wife went to the kitchen and cooked us up a surprise. Wonderful, traditional pastas, just-caught fish, fruit for desert, and every ingrediant FRESH, FRESH, FRESH! We tried one of the local restaurants on the second night of our stay, and one in Amalfi. But nothing else we ate in Italy compared to the food at the hotel! We luxuriated in our food as we watched the sun set over the water. There were even fire works to entertain us over the village.

The room was kept very clean by the staff and was perfectly comfortable. Ours happened to have an ant problem when we arrived, but it went away over our stay. The shower was a tight squeeze, but not much of a sacrifice considering the breathtaking view off our private balcony. (maybe bring along some bug spray to Italy, the mosquitoes are hungry)

The staff were incredibly friendly and personable. My husband invited the owner over to join us for a bit during dinner and we had a wonderful chat with him.

We loved being away from the tourists combing Sorrento, Positano and Amalfi. Our hotel was quiet and delightful! It was very easy and inexpensive (just a couple euros) to catch the bus outside the hotel to other villages for day trips. We also took a boat trip to Capri, arranged just outside our hotel. There we could have booked scuba diving or windsurfing if we'd wanted to.

Highly recommend!
