“It Could be so good”
Reviewed 30 May 2014

My husband and I spent four days at Villa Lauro last week. We chose this hotel as it received such good reviews on trip advisor but I didn't feel it lived up to those excellent reviews.
Firstly, it's pretty difficult to find amongst the small streets of Ragusa and when you have, parking is a nightmare. The street is very narrow with with high pavements. Unfortunately we managed to scrape the paintwork and wheel hub on our hire car on the side of the pavement.
The room was ok but the our bathroom and shower area was tiny and not very luxurious. I don't know what the other rooms are like.
It really is just a bed and breakfast as there is no food on offer other than breakfast. The gardens are beautiful and the swimming pool looks nice but the weather wasn't warm enough for us to use it. However it was warm enough to sit outside to have a drink and there was no outside seating except for the very uncomfortable, but chic sun loungers. We did ask for one of the breakfast tables to be put outside on the patio so we could sit outside. To be fair they were more than happy to do this for us but I don't like having to ask for basic facilities.
The breakfast was very Italian with many cakes and pastries. There wasn't much choice if you are not keen on a sweet breakfast. Not really to our english taste. However you can't always expect to have what you are used to.
The staff were helpful and polite. The villa is a beautiful old building with lovely renovated rooms but the whole experience was just ok and not special as I thought it might be.

We stayed as a group of 3 adults for two nights in early May 2014 and were highly impressed with both the charming building and the quality of service we received.
The hotel is a refurbished villa - an extremely tasteful mixture of old and new. The public areas were spacious and the terrace led down to the magnificent rose garden and swimming pool area complete with orange trees.
Our bedroom was generously sized and furnished to a high specification. The beds were large and comfortable and the linen fresh and crisp. There were complimentary drinks in the fridge, the lighting was creative and the bathroom shower was powerful and had piping hot water.
The breakfasts were of a high standard, perhaps the best on our tour of Sicily. The choice of meats, cheeses, fruits and breads was extensive and attractively presented. The staff here were helpful and conscientious.
The receptionists were friendly, welcoming and helpful, for instance in car parking and route planning.
The location of the hotel was ideal - peaceful and just minutes away from the steps down into the old town. The views are stunning - no wonder this is a world heritage site.
We feel the hotel is a hidden gem and represents very good value for money. We will certainly recommend it to friends and family.

We checked in and felt very welcomed by Domenic. We had a great room facing the huge, very private back yard with a beautiful pool. Our room had french doors out to the dining terrace and was very roomy and clean. The breakfast was a bit disappointing. The hotel was not remotely full and that may be why. My only complaint is that we had no idea the time changed and went for breakfast at 7:30 and none was there nor could we get a decent cappuccino. The person on duty at that time barely spoke English (unlike everyone else we met) When we figured out 2 days later that the time changed than we were more understanding. I emailed the manager to tell her why my review would not be great and she was very apologetic! I suggested that she put cards in the room like the cruise ships do to tell you to change your clocks.

Also, you have to walk a good 20 mins to get to the old town but you're 5 mins from the new town. More action is there.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the back. Beware there is no elevator but we did get help with the bags when w...

Although we stayed in this hotel for only one night, we really enjoyed it. It is in a recently renovated old palazzo. It is very clean and attractive. Our room looked out onto a lawn overlooking a swimming pool. It is a very peaceful spot. The staff were very friendly and efficient. Breakfast is in a beautiful upstairs dining room. We highly recommend this hotel.

Entering from the very hilly street 50 steps from the stairs to ragusa ibla, you'd never guess there's a green oasis behind the hotel with a pool to shake the summer heat. The front desk staff was extremely helpful - guiding us to the hotel when we were lost, helping us w finding nearby parking spots, but particularly, helping my wife who fell down outside clean and bandage a cut leg with great care. First night's room was weird but they moved us to a quiet beauty looking over the garden. Breakfast ok but good coffee on on lovely terrace. Very convenient for getting to ragusa ibla, where there's little hotel choice. Beautifully renovated interiors, nice bath, AC, very good value! My only suggestion would be more comfortable pool loungers and some comfortable chairs in the garden.

Room Tip: Facing the garden

Really liked this one.

Nice little pool but not umbrellas which made it a little bit too hot in the afternoons

We got a very big room, which was nice and clean.
Breakfast could have been better, but was ok

All in all - a great hotel. Would come back

We loved this hotel: our room had Stone walls and the two double beds (one for our 3 year old son) were in different áreas of the room which allowed some privacy. The Swimming pool and gardens were a jewel, and the service very good. Comfortable rooms, beautiful palace and the breakfast room left us speechless. We would go back again, no doubt!

Room Tip: Book in advance, and cheaper if done through Booking.com or similar webs.
