The two most usual complaints about this hotel are: first, that it is difficult to find and to park at and, secondly, that a number of the rooms are inconvenient. Our observations on the first of these two matters is that it is not difficult if one comes, as we did, from the west (eg Comiso) but it certainly does seem difficult from other directions. (Incidentally, Global Maps do a good town plan of Ragusa, normally available at Stanfords.) As to the rooms, what is needed is for the owners to do a thorough review of the situation; for instance, in our room (number 4, I think) the air conditioning did not cool the upper level and there was no ventilation up there.

Having said that, we had a very good stay. The staff worked very hard to assist us, dealing with the parking and getting a large fan from another house late at night to cool our bedroom area. The Reception staff dealt with all sorts of questions for us - restaurant bookings, public transport from Ragusa Ibla, visits etc etc. And the breakfast staff took great pains to ensure that we had an excellent start to the day even when we were rather late. We were very grateful.

We were also very appreciative of the pool - a rarity in Ragusa. Also, the location of the hotel by the steps to the old town made it easy for us to visit Ibla (and return by bus) as well as enjoying the buildings and shops of the upper town.

We had a great week at this charming hotel in the middle of town with a fantastic pool and garden. We didn't like our first two level room and moved to Room No 2 the following day - a lovely stone vaulted ceiling, big bathroom and a large sitting area with direct access to the garden and pool area. We enjoyed this fully and had light lunches and suppers on several days. Francesca and the rest of the staff were very helpful with lots of advice on trips, restaurants etc. Would thoroughly recommend a stay here, and the price was very reasonable.

Room Tip: Just have a good look and change if you like another one!

Thais is a beautiful boutique hotel very well situated in a quiet street on Ragusa within easy walking of Ragusa Ibla. Easy there hard back as it is 300 steps. The hotel is a beautiful old house with magnificent spaces. There is a garden and pool at the back. The rooms are beautifully appointed modern within old.
However the standard rooms have no windows, ours had a roof velux, so we had to ask for an upgrade 40€ per night. The Hotel was practically empty.

I recommend the hotel and Ragusa but compare prices on the superior or deluxe rooms

We absolutely adored this hotel! Very well appointed, and a great mix of modern comforts in an historic setting. The breakfast is to die for ... An elegant presentation of fresh baked pastries, breads and cheeses, yogurt and cereals, fresh squeezed juices and a very richly made cappuccino. The staff are extremely helpful and our room was spacious and comfortable. We made good use of the pool to refresh us in the heat of the day. You can tell that the owner has a clear vision and wants to ensure that everything is "just so" - it made for a wonderful stay.

Interesting hotel in an old villa that has been completely renovated and modernized, most of the rooms are unique built around the existing architecture but every room I saw was spacious and and very comfortable, I was with a group and everyone like their room the only complaint I heard was that in one room the bed was in a loft and the bath was downstairs but the room was large and very comfortable, two drawbacks: because of the old city it is difficult to park a car near the hotel and it is a long walk down the old city steps to the center of the historic district so it can be quite a hike up to the hotel if you are infirm or not much of a walker but their is public transport nearby, great staff that was very helpful and spoke English, nice grounds and a great pool area for relaxing or exercising with a swim, good breakfast

My husband and I spent four days at Villa Lauro last week. We chose this hotel as it received such good reviews on trip advisor but I didn't feel it lived up to those excellent reviews.
Firstly, it's pretty difficult to find amongst the small streets of Ragusa and when you have, parking is a nightmare. The street is very narrow with with high pavements. Unfortunately we managed to scrape the paintwork and wheel hub on our hire car on the side of the pavement.
The room was ok but the our bathroom and shower area was tiny and not very luxurious. I don't know what the other rooms are like.
It really is just a bed and breakfast as there is no food on offer other than breakfast. The gardens are beautiful and the swimming pool looks nice but the weather wasn't warm enough for us to use it. However it was warm enough to sit outside to have a drink and there was no outside seating except for the very uncomfortable, but chic sun loungers. We did ask for one of the breakfast tables to be put outside on the patio so we could sit outside. To be fair they were more than happy to do this for us but I don't like having to ask for basic facilities.
The breakfast was very Italian with many cakes and pastries. There wasn't much choice if you are not keen on a sweet breakfast. Not really to our english taste. However you can't always expect to have what you are used to.
The staff were helpful and polite. The villa is a beautiful old building with lovely renovated rooms but the whole experience was just ok and not special as I thought it might be.

We stayed as a group of 3 adults for two nights in early May 2014 and were highly impressed with both the charming building and the quality of service we received.
The hotel is a refurbished villa - an extremely tasteful mixture of old and new. The public areas were spacious and the terrace led down to the magnificent rose garden and swimming pool area complete with orange trees.
Our bedroom was generously sized and furnished to a high specification. The beds were large and comfortable and the linen fresh and crisp. There were complimentary drinks in the fridge, the lighting was creative and the bathroom shower was powerful and had piping hot water.
The breakfasts were of a high standard, perhaps the best on our tour of Sicily. The choice of meats, cheeses, fruits and breads was extensive and attractively presented. The staff here were helpful and conscientious.
The receptionists were friendly, welcoming and helpful, for instance in car parking and route planning.
The location of the hotel was ideal - peaceful and just minutes away from the steps down into the old town. The views are stunning - no wonder this is a world heritage site.
We feel the hotel is a hidden gem and represents very good value for money. We will certainly recommend it to friends and family.
