“Great location, perfect hosts.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 August 2014

I spent a week at Il Barocco not just to enjoy the wonderful sights of Ragusa Ibla and south east Sicily but to relax, and this hotel fitted the bill perfectly. It's clean, comfortable and convenient with wonderful customer service and is very good value for money. The breakfast selection is amazing and even though being coeliac I couldn't sample much of what was on offer, they bought in just about every gluten free foodstuff available for me so I still had good choice at breakfast. The hotel is in a quiet location but very central for restaurants and local shops with easy access to a bus route to travel further afield if you don't have a car. I had a spacious single room with every modern comfort and a beautiful view. I loved it and will be booking Hotel Il Barocco when I visit again.

This is a lovely family-run hotel in one of the nicest cities in Sicily. It’s located on a quiet street, where street parking was available for our rental car. (You need a good GPS to find the hotel, as Ragusa Ibla has very narrow, winding streets.) The entrance is through a nicely landscaped courtyard, where guests can sit and enjoy a glass of wine.

Our room was upstairs via a winding staircase or elevator, with windows that overlooked the street and the courtyard. The room was small and simple, but very comfortable. The walls are thin, so we did hear the couple next door. Breakfast is very nice with an abundance of food. We ate late and enjoyed watching family owners talk together at the table nearby. It’s so obvious how much they love working together, and how much they appreciate their guests. One of the young men in the family insisted on carrying our luggage to the car for us, and was also very helpful with directions.

Besides the family management, another major plus for Hotel Il Barocco is its location. It’s an easy walk to the cathedral, churches, restaurants (there are 2 Michelin rated restaurants in Ragusa Ibla!) and the park. The evening passaggieta was the most fun of any city we visited in Italy. Ragusa Ibla literally comes alive as multiple generations walk hand-in-hand, greeting their neighbors and friends. It’s as if the city becomes one huge block party, especially around the park. As we stopped to take pictures on our drive out of town, we noticed cows and goats with bells around their necks grazing on the hillside. It was the perfect ending to our visit.

We have had a nice stay here. Only the air-conditioning in our room, number 114, didn't work. Fortunately they gave us an other room with a working air-conditioning. Breakfast was great, with choices of pastries, fresh fruits and cereals. Location is ideal for a walk around town.

My views are probably influenced by being upgraded to a suite! Although difficult to find & drive to through the myriad of one way & very narrow streets, once there this is a lovely hotel in a very quiet & central location. The young staff were very friendly & extremely helpful. My room & en suite was very spacious & the bed extremely comfortable. Wifi worked well. The breakfast buffet was plentiful with a good selection although this was not true if you were late down!

If you’re planning to see the Baroque jewels of Ragusa then this is a great place to stay. Clean, comfortable and friendly. Most of what you want to see is in Ibla and although you may make the climb to Ragusa itself it seems to make sense to base yourself in Ibla itself. Sadly we didn’t ever find the Tourist Information office open in Ibla and a map of Ragusa proper is really a must before you leave Ibla on either foot or the shuttle bus. Overall, Ragusa is not the easiest of the Baroque towns to reach on Sicily’s unforgiving transport system, so double check your travel arrangements. You may well find that staying elsewhere is easier and just make a day trip.

We stayed here for 3 days in april and had a great time. The rooms are not lavish but perfectly clean and comfortable. There were nice touches such as new toothbrushes and toothpaste in the bathroom . The wifi was a bit unreliable but that was much more of a problem for the hotel and staff than it was for us. What made us like this hotel was the staff they were so friendly and helpful, helping us book tours etc. they gave good advice about best value for taxis etc.

And the breakfast was really good, fresh fruit numerous pastries, freshly squeezed orange juice. If you are after 5 star hotel this is nt for you but if you want fairly priced little hotel thats very sicilian them you will love it.

Stayed in this lovely hotel in Ragusa for three days . Lovely comfortable rooms, best continental breakfast with fresh fruits, juices, meats and cakes during my whole stay in Sicily. Clean hotel with English speaking staff who were keen to please. Nice although small courtyard for sitting out in the morning or evening.

Perfect location to explore Ragusa on foot and whilst there is no dedicated parking, we were able to find places almost outside of the hotel. Recommend one uses a SATNAV to find it with all of the narrow one way streets.

WE will be back again and highly recommend for couples and families
