“Truly Phenomenal Property”
Reviewed 9 October 2017 for a stay in August 2017

This was our second stay at Dimora di mara. This is an outstanding villa for multiple couples or a family to stay. Each of the three large balconies can handle the entire group, but also provides ample space to spread out. The views are amazing. The large terraces have plenty of areas to find privacy if you wish. We love the location... centrally located with an easy walk to Atrani, Amalfi and Minori. It's very easy to head up the hill to Ravello for the day as well. August allowed us to swim, which was fantastic. This is a very clean property, and the staff was excellent. We chose to have breakfast hosted this time, which turned out to be a great way to start each day and well worth the cost. I would highly recommend this villa and welcome any questions!

“Good but lacking in privacy”
Reviewed 16 July 2017 for a stay in July 2017

This is a large villa with a lovely outlook accomodating a lot of people. However, you should be aware of the following (we knew almost none of this at the time of booking):
- the owner and housekeeper live in an adjoining apartment with a door which opens directly into the villa itself and enter unannounced
- the men that maintain the pool and garden have keys to the villa and enter announced at inconsistent times every day, anytime from 7am onwards and as late as 7pm
- the housekeeper(s) are in the villa for most of the day (they are lovely though)
- there are cameras on the terraces of the villa
- the villa owner does not allow any external service providers in the villa ie so if you are looking for anyone to come and cater or provide any sort of service you will need to do so via the owner or rental company at inflated prices
- only the owner's pizza chef is able to use the pizza oven
- there are around 80 steps from the water up to the top of the house. This house is not suited to anyone with any leg injuries or mobilty issues or who is adverse to going up and down long flights of stairs
- the bottom level of the villa where you spend most of your time does not have a toilet on it]
- boats are unable to pull up to the villa
- it is not really walking distance to any beaches and the walk to a nearby town (15-30 mins) is along the narrow road which follows the coast

Thank you. However I have to clarify soon that in your review are contained many inaccuracies.
It is true that the owner does not allow any external service providers in the villa -as well as in almost all the other luxury villas- and this is due to perfectly understandable safety reasons.
This is also specified in the rental agreement signed with your travel agent at booking time as well as in our rental agreement with some rules for the correct use of the house. So this is just one of the rules to respect at Dimora di mare.
It is incorrect that the owner and the housekeeper live in an adjoining apartment. We both live somewhere else.
I'm staying at the villa only for the time strictly necessary to welcome and explain to the Guests all the villa's functions at check-in time (from 4pm on) and check-out (within 10am, at the time agreed with the leaving Guests).
It is definitely incorrect when you say that the owner enters announced. At the end of your check-in I entered again because you emailed me asking to meet and talk with me. And why did you ask to meet? Because you wanted to introduce to me some external providers (pizzaiolo and waitress), and you did, with whom you had made arrangements for not allowed use of the pizza oven that night and other cooking services during the upcoming week. You asked for permission.
I did not allow your pizzaiolo and his staff to use the pizza oven and kindly explained to you and your party why this was not possible and even dangerous. Then I left the house and came back only at the end of your week at the agreed time for check-out (Saturday morning 9.30 am) having with you and your Agency only further communications by email.
I can understand your frustration in not being able to accomplish your plans and why you wrote such a review (like a vengeful vent?) but I cannot accept insincerity.
We are proud to say that the villa has been in our family for many generations, a place of incomparable magic natural beauty, that we have shared so far with plenty of satisfied Guests. Their wonderful reviews speak for them.
The villa is conveniently accessible directly by the Amalfi coastal road with no steps at all. The only 80 steps from the villa to its enchanting private descent to the sea are worth the effort in order to live the Amalfi experience with the privacy of an exclusive location, far from the crowded beaches at summer time (there is also very close to the villa a little half-moon pebbles beach, very private for it is reachable only from the sea!). You may not know that the majority of the villas from Salerno to Positano have hundreds of steps to just reach the villa and many more to reach the sea.
In particular, our private sea area provides many conveniences including a bathroom/changing room, which, of course, seems that only you among our past Guests must have missed!
Finally tenders to big boats can approach our platforms to pick you up and transfer to the main boat, when correctly informed on the features of our marine area. This is the very special core of our beautiful family home, the place where you too have happily spent most of your time.
However, in order to guarantee the integrity and security of this special property and preserve it for our current and future Guests, it is really necessary that the conductors respect the few simple common sense rules contained in our rental agreement, which are shared and accepted prior to the reservation. In the rental there are few understandable and sharable limitations that we ask you to accept in respect of the uniqueness and value of the place as well as for its preservation and safeguard. These rules can be so briefly summarized:
- appropriate use of all of the many amenities provided (except for those expressly forbidden for safety purposes, such as swim spa pool use at night and use of pizza wood oven that requires specialized staff who know how it works);
- respect for the environment (careful sorting of waste, avoiding unnecessary use of electric energy, water and air conditioning);
- respect the prohibition of unauthorized access to the villa of external Guests and outsiders (for obvious security reasons);
- respect for the hours of rest of the people living in the neighborhood (avoiding excessive screams and high-volume music, accordingly to municipal provisions and the tranquility of the area).
Finally the gardner/manteiner works for you at the villa only early in the morning, checks gardens and swim spa-pool maintenance, helps with luggage in the check-in/out procedures and certainly he has the house keys, for he is part of the staff. Once again is completely false that he comes at any time and whenever he wants like you said, even after 6 pm as you said! Actually he never came to the villa after 10 am during your stay. During your stay your Agency also reported to us your complaints for the excessive lengths of the cleaning service!! With 10 kids among a party of 16 in the villa! I wouldn't say it is easy to clean up everything in just the 4 hours included in the rate. So a few additional hours were necessary and were offered at no extra charge. Strange indeed that someone complains for a better service received. First time in many many years from your Agency! First time for us since the very beginning of the villa rental.
But it is pretty clear why you preferred nobody was on your way … this to make your “not allowed plans” undisturbed!
I really thank you again for giving me the opportunity to make public these appropriate clarifications for you and our Guests to come, Renato

Renato and Annalisa made our wedding an absolute dream! The villa was beautiful, every detail was perfect, and the wedding was everything that we asked for and more. We can not wait to book our stay at the villa again in the future. Thank you!

“Memories to last a lifetime”

There really aren’t adequate words to describe the experience we had staying and getting married at Dimora Di Mare. We stayed with our bridal party in the villa (some of who had young babies and had no issues with the accommodation being appropriate for the children). From an accommodation point of view, the villa itself is incredible – it is luxurious, the staff are incredibly attentive (though you never know they are there) and the location is a place you can only dream of. With direct (private) access to the ocean, a spa, numerous gardens and beautiful places to sit and drink in the location, you will want for nothing. We were extremely comfortable – the beds were of a high standard and the rooms are stunning – all with ocean views. One of the biggest draw cards of staying at Dimora Di Mare is the level of service you will receive from the owners– Annalisa and Renato went above and beyond to make our stay the most memorable of our lifetime, and truly added a personal touch and level of care that we are forever grateful for. From Annalisa cooking a welcome feast, to accessing their wine cellar, to accommodating the babies with cribs that stayed at the villa with us, it really is a 5 star experience. Wedding wise, it was truly the most incredible experience, better than we could have ever dreamed of! The level of planning and work that Renato and Annalisa undertook to ensure our wedding was perfect, did not go unnoticed. They worked with us for nearly two years in advance to ensure that all our requests were accommodated. The level of detail and planning that they assisted with (very patiently!) and then undertook on the day was nothing short of remarkable. Our wedding was the best day of our lives. We had a gorgeous ceremony in the lemon garden, followed by aperitifs in the Orange Garden, dinner on the trattoria (which was some of the best Italian food we have ever tasted), followed by drinks and dancing on the rooftop. We honestly couldn’t have envisioned a better day. We look at our photos and cannot believe we were lucky enough to mark such an important milestone in a villa like this, on the most beautiful coast on earth. Simply saying thank you to Renato and Annalisa does not seem like an adequate gesture given the amount of work they put into ensuring our day was perfect - they will always hold a special place in our hearts. We will be back to stay at Dimora Di Mare and cannot wait to return to paradise!

“Dimora di mare was an outstanding location for our family Amalfi coast adventure.”
Reviewed 1 August 2016 for a stay in July 2016

Our family of 13 (6 adults and 7 children) enjoyed every minute of our 2 week stay at the villa. Renato and Annalisa Sgrosso along with their superb staff are sharing a labor of love with their guests. The property is beautiful and the different well maintained villa levels allowed for plenty of privacy as well as happy time together. All our additional requests (continental breakfast each morning, pizza birthday party for a 6 year old, 2 family dinners) were kindly accommodated and charged appropriately. Many helpful suggestions were shared with us and all were handled in a most professional manner. The villa location allowed us to explore the Amalfi coast with ease. You will need to arrange transportation or become familiar with the bus routes to fully enjoy the area. While the villa steps to the sea gave some of us a stair-master challenge, it was the perfect energy release for the majority and we all look forward to a return visit! Chuck and Janice S.

“Trip of a Lifetime”

Where do I begin? Villa Dimora di Mare owners Renato and Annalisa are quite possibly the warmest and most accommodating people we have ever met, and without a doubt, will forever be part of our lives as they went above and beyond to make sure our wedding and the days leading up to our special day were everything we dreamed.

We stayed at the villa with 15 of our closest friends and family that included our 2-year-old son and two teens. Upon arrival, we were quite surprised to see that not only had diapers and a high chair for our son been provided without request, but they had installed an entire play set complete with swings, slide and playhouse waiting for him to enjoy and he loved it. This is just a snippet of the hospitality we received throughout our stay. Let me also mention upfront that the housekeeping staff was simply wonderful. Despite the fact that they spoke little English, every morning we were greeting with smiles and light conversation that made us feel very welcomed. They did an excellent job at making sure the villa remained tidy even when we made a stockpile of dishes after cooking, which we felt terrible about—but they made us feel like it wasn’t a big deal.

Our friends and family were overwhelmed by the sweeping views of the sea, the gorgeous bedrooms and overall beauty of the villa. There are no amount of pictures that will capture just how stunning the property is. The grounds are well kept and the house is immaculate. We felt safe and secure during our stay. There was plenty of space for the 17 of us to spread out and relax without feeling on top of one another. The meals that we had prepared for us on the property were some of the best meals we enjoyed on the entire trip, with fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs picked straight from their garden.

Prior to our arrival Renato and Annalisa were patient, responsive and very resourceful as they helped us make important arrangements for our wedding (i.e. flowers, food, wedding cake, celebrant, etc.) and several activities for our guests during our stay (i.e. pizza party, day boat trip to Capri and Sorrento and dinner overlooking the water, transportation to Positano and other various locations upon request). They were able to accommodate all of our requests, despite the fact that many were made at the last minute. Renato and Annalisa went above and beyond to ensure that our stay and our wedding were as perfect as possible. We cannot thank them enough for all of their efforts. It would be a dream come true to someday find ourselves back at Villa Dimora di Mare for another special occasion.
