“Lovely Hotel in Quaint Village”
Reviewed 14 July 2013

The Palazzo Avino Hotel in Ravello was lovely from the moment we walked in the door. Everything is quietly luxurious here. I think that we must have had the penthouse suite as it was on the top floor and had two levels. On the top level it had a private jacuzzi on the balcony. The Amalfi Coast views were spectacular from everywhere on the property. This is a quiet hotel and town. We stayed out by the pool for two days and were treated to cold towels, great service, delicious lunches, wines, fresh olives, and incredible views. The spa is on this level and although small was lovely and very adequate. I had a great massage, manicure, & pedicure there. I think the hotel was originally someone's home and it still has this very personal feel. Food service in the restaurants could seem slow at times especially breakfast but overall everything was really very good. The menu was also pretty complicated for dinner but the food was delicious and they would make you anything that you wanted and alter the dishes for you if you desired. More simple cuisine could be found in the village if an alternative was needed.

Room Tip: Travelers need to be aware that access is only by stairs to the pool and spa area. It could be very...

We stayed in a Seaview room and were lucky to have a balcony. The room although quite small was beautifully appointed with a nice bathroom stocked with Bvlgari toiletries. The gardens are really nice and there were plenty of sunbeds with a good food and drinks service and a lovely swimming pool. The sun goes behind the hotel about 4pm but there is a roof top terrace with sun beds and two hot tubs if you want to enjoy the sun into the evening. Breakfast was excellent with a great choice - dinner at the hotel was lovely both in Rossellinis and the casual dining terrace. There is a beach club which we visited once - it is nice but we found it too crowded when compared to the hotel garden pool area. The hotel has a fabulous quiet location - we would not hesitate to make a return visit

We finished a 7 day Mediterranean cruise and took a 500 euro private transfer to Ravello from Civitavecchia port.It was a 4 hr dizzying drive along the spectacular Amalfi coast. After a few wrong turns - we finally stopped in a cobblestone alley.A bellboy ran out from nowhere and dissaperared with our bags.I looked around...where is this famed hotel? I looked to the right and then to the left. The bellboy ran back and beckoned us to follow him. We walked for a couple of minutes and came to a glass doorway right on the cobblestone alley.I was almost crossing it ,when he motioned me to turn left. There it was. As I turned left into the glass doorway - my jaw dropped. We were on eye level with the clouds. The mountain was lush, green verdant and the Tyrrhenian sea lay far down at the bottom.I was speechless.

We were met by the very gracious and kind Antonio Ferrara- who welcomed us like we were a guest in his home.

I said ,"Mr Ferrara- wow! You all are hard to reach!"

He bowed wisely and said.," Indeed Madam. Heaven is hard to reach."

It's true. His words have stayed with me till now.It is a surrealistic place. It's almost like being in a postcard-it's so perfect. Our room was not ready, so we had lunch at the Terazza Belvedere. We met Francesco and Vittorio- great guys! Sublime service. We chose a bass from the fresh bar and Nicola, the chef prepared it for us on the grill. What a meal! I did not know whether to swallow or stare at the view.

We had a mountain view room which looked over the cobblestone street below. We could hear church bells ring, people chatting, and Pasquale Sorrentino's Cermaiche d'Art Store. I was pleased wih the room.Very good size- comfortable bed, Bulgari toilettries, spotless bathroom, marble floors and a shuttered window that opened to balmy breezes.I did not miss the sea.

We changed quickly and went to the pool which has a breathtaking view of the clouds and mountains. The gardens have 5 levels. The first one has comfortable chaise lounges, with books and binoculars in rattan baskets. The Spa and pool are on the next level. The pool has a window through which you can see the mountains underwater. So neat ! The next level has a canopied excercise gym with treadmills and all.Whatta view to excercise with! The next level has comfortable rattan sofas and a solid jasmine wall of flowers. The air was heavy with fragrant jasmine. The arbor laden with hundreds of lemons. So picturesque. The last level was a koi pond.
Very serene and peaceful.

Everyone is so attentive! My husband was laying on the pool chaise talking on the phone when Geraldo ran up with a comfortable neck pillow! Attention to detail in every aspect. The pool was so warm and had freshwater. We loved it.The shower was an arbor laden arch in the wall...picture perfect!

We had dinner at the 2 Michelin star Rosselinis. They had a mandolino and chittara player and we sang Volare with them! Great local ambience. Our table had a killer view and we were showered with attention by Caterina,Marcella,Francesco and the ever smiling Maitre D'- Donato! Since we don't drink alcohol, the bar was kind enough to make us non-alcoholic drinks which were delicious! Molte grazie guys!We stayed late and enjoyed the ambience and view and food.Food was awesome but as expected pricey. 289 euros for the 3 of us.

Breakfast the next morning was included and so wonderful. They had huge local bread, an omelet station, buffalo mozzarella from Campania and assorted paradise cake- which was paradise indeed. After breakfast we walked to Pasquale Sorrentino's Ceramich d'Atre store with his assistant Aldo. His showroom is right opposite the entrance of the hotel.Great hand painted pottery. They ship- so I purchased quite a few peices- they are unique!

We walked in the Piazza Duomo-had an ice cream - heard church bells ring and enjoyed seeing everybody having la dolce vita. The entrance to Villa Ruffolo is right on the piazza and we paid 5 euros to tour the gardens. It is definitelly worth it! The place is abound with flowers. We were too hot to walk to Villa Cimbrone so we came back and took the hotel shuttle to the Clubhouse by the Sea.It was 15 mins by car in the town of Marmorata. We were greeted by Marilena and a tray of cold towels. We changed in the Clubhouse which was deserted -so we felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. There was no beach but a set of steps went into the Tyrrhenean sea.My husband and daughter took a cool dip into the sea and enjoyed sea kayaking. The sea was emerald green and clear as crystal.Giuseppe,Sabatino and Marilena were so attentive and pamered and spolied us!We had a pizza marinara and took the shuttle back to the hotel.

That night we had dinner at Villa Maria- a short stroll away.Great views- great food -lovely memories

We took the hotel's servc\ice to Napoli AP the next day.150 euros and an hour and half. My fourteen old daughter wants to have her honeymoon here ! We - never visit the same place twice but felt 2 days was not enough- so we will return !

Thanks to Antonio and the front desk, the A-team at the Clubhouse ,both Francesco,Vittorio,Caterina,Marcella,Mario and the bartenders,Donato,Nicola the chef,Geraldo the pool boy and everyone else who bowled us over with stupendous personalized service. We will never ever forget you. We wish you and the Avino family buono fortuna for years to come till eternity. Heaven is truly a special place.

The view, the service, the food, the room are all great. Lots of little special touches that make this hotel special. Very quiet and relaxing. Bed, pillows and linens are so comfortable. Views from rooms and all over the property are spectacular.

This was a holiday made in heaven. An area of outstanding beauty all around. Great hotel and staff, excellent food etc,etc...Nothing was too much trouble. The adjacent more expensive hotel came a poor second, they charged equivalent prices for far inferior food and service. There's no doubt where we would prefer to stay, and hope to return soon. A big thank you to all the staff once again.
My only concern is that we may find it hard to re-book after all the good reviews.

Room Tip: You won't spend much time there, so choose wisely.

This hotel was perfect! The staff, the facilities, and the views cannot be faulted! They were accommodating to our every need including changing out transport from Naples to Rome at the last minute due to our flight being cancelled.

Room Tip: You definitely want a sea view room.

We spent the first 4 nights of our honeymoon at Palazzo Avino. We flew from Colorado into Rome, caught a train to Naples and took the hotel's car service to the hotel. From Naples it is about 1.5 hour car ride (lots of windy roads) up the hill to Ravello. We were welcomed by Antonio who became our guide and friend for the duration of our stay at this hotel. It was the perfect spot to start our honeymoon. Colorado is 8 hours behind Italy and this is the perfect place to relax and switch over to European time. The hotel was super clean. We were in room 315 to start off with. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was spotless. The outdoor dining area of the hotel is fantastic. The views are amazing and we spent a lot of time gazing out into the ocean. We did not eat at Rossellinis, but we had food from Terrazza Belvedere and it was tasty. The staff at the hotel were friendly and very helpful. The breakfast that was included with our room charge was great. Eggs made to order, cappuccinos, and pastries.... really yummy. The pool area was great as well. We spent our last afternoon down at the Clubhouse By The Sea. It was probably my favorite experience in Ravello. The ocean was cool and refreshing and the lounge area was very relaxing. The location of the hotel is great. Ravello is pretty tiny and it was a short walk to restaurants, shops and Villa Cimbrone. Our last night we were upgraded to a ocean view w/ terrace. It was beautiful. We watched 2 weddings in the neighboring garden from our terrace. If you have the money to splurge for a terrace it is worth it to have the view from your room. Thank you Palazzo Avino for a wonderful honeymoon! :)

Room Tip: Splurge for an ocean view terrace if you can.
