“First Class Staff but beware occasional drunken wedding guests”
Reviewed 4 August 2012

We have been staying at this hotel on and off for 25 years. The position is outstanding in its views and convenient for the shops. The cleanliness immaculate. all the rooms have Air Conditioning. It is twinned with the hotel Villa Maria which is ten minutes walk up the hill behind. The hotels are owned by the Palumbo family and the two sons are now running the venture. It is a traditional Italian hotel with exceptionally friendly and helpful staff. It has a wonderful pool and the breakfasts are excellent. It is also possible to have a light lunch by the poolside, but for an evening meal you either walk up to the Villa Maria or choose one of the many superb eating places in the small town of Ravello.
In recent years the hotel has begun to cater for weddings which are often held at another villa owned by the family, The Villa Ava. Unfortunately, some of the wedding guests may be given rooms at the Giordano; and on occasions they may be drunk and disorderly (usually English) until the early hours of the morning. If you plan to take a room you will be comfortable and well served, but always check if there is going to be a wedding during your stay. We have been woken by inebriated youngsters several times recently in July/August.
This caveat is a shame because since the late 1980s we have had wonderful experiences at the Giordano and made good friends there.

Room Tip: All the rooms are good but ask to be shown around because they vary according to your tastes

We stayed for two nights and booked two rooms--one for us and one for two teens. Great breakfast and the pool was perfect. Be sure to bring your own towel or you will be charged to use theirs. Wi-fi in the lobby and just outside the hotel doors, but it didn't work well poolside. Rooms were perfectly suitable, although some might think they are small. Perfect location--many Italians also visit the hotel with their families--there were a lot of young children at the pool. Easy walk to everything, including town square, Villa Cimbrone and Villa Rufalo. The Ravello music festival is a wonderful treat, just outside the hotel doors. Good service, clean...would definitely return.

We spent 4 nights at this hotel and would recommend it to anyone, and go back. The hotel is very well situated just of the main square of this beautiful town. There is a free car park with the hotel which takes a bit of careful navigating to get to as you have to drive through the square and then down a narrow street. We found the staff helpful and friendly. Our room was on the second floor, a lovely large room with a balcony which had views across to the mountains. It was very pleasant to sit out and have a drink before going out to dinner. The pool is amazing and I found it very relaxing sitting reading my book and taking a dip every now and then to keep cool as it was very hot. We walked down through the countryside to Minori. The walk consisted of many steps but was well worth the effect as we saw lots of different things along the way, however we did catch the bus back up to Ravello. You can also walk down to Amalfi. Our highlight of the time we were in Ravello was our time spent at the Italian cooking school of Mamma Agata - this is a fantastic experience, one not to be missed. A day learning all about Italian cooking and then eating it - don't have breakfast before you go. There was a good choice of food at breakfast time and you could order poached, fried or boiled eggs or omelettes. The only negative point about this hotel is that they do not provide glass glasses but plastic ones and for the quality of hotel we found this very surprising. The town relaxes in the evening when all the day trippers have gone back to their resorts. We did not go to the 2 sister hotels Villa Maria and Villa Eva so cannot comment on them.

Room Tip: We were in room number 37 which I would recommend as it was a large light and airy room with a showe...

Stayed 4 nights with my wife and a group of friends for a wedding of a close friend in July 2012.
One of the most beautiful towns and areas in the world I've ever been to.
Giordano is perfectly located close to the main plaza (not that anything in ravello is far away). From what we saw each room is a little different. Ours was on the bottom floor, and benefitted from being larger than many others, plus it had a great outdoor garden patio. The room was well equipped with 2 AC units (thank goodness as it was very hot!).

The pool is one of the biggest draws due to the heat. Incredibly refreshing, great pool chairs, and bar service right next to it.

The same owners of this hotel, also own villa Maria, and hotel eva which are further up the hill, and with some of the best views. The restaurant at villa maria was also the best food we ate for dinner while in town - it is a must do. The wedding guests we were with we're split between the Giordano and villa Maria - and so all were able to use the pool at Giordano, but I'm not sure if this is normal practice if you are staying at villa Maria by yourself.

Ravello is also very reasonably priced for food and drinks. I expect this is because most tourists only visit during the day, then leave back to their seaside towns for dinner. Big mistake! Stay in ravello. You can still do a fantastic walk (also a must do) down to the ocean through incredible scenery and lush forest. And because most people just visit ravello for a few hours, the town is sooooo peaceful and quiet. Even in prime travel time of July. It was not crowded in the least in the evenings.

Other must do's are the castle gardens, dinner at a restaurant called villa amore, and check out the "hotel Caruso" to see how the other half live. Rooms may cost up to several thousand dollars a night, but the infinity pool, restaurant, and most notably their garden terrace area must be seen. It's.....wow. There is also a public park with views forever on the way up to this hotel.

I could go on...but bring a book, learn to relax, stroll, drink wine and beer at odd hours throughout the day on patios and just enjoy.

We paid a small fortune for a room at this hotel so I was expecting something amazing. The hotel itself was nice, but the double room we had was small. Bathroom had a shower but no bath and I did expect one for the money we were paying.
The views from the hotel are nice (you can get better views if you pay even more at different hotels), so ours was not the dramatic coastline but looked at the hills and mountains - still very pretty. It's located centrally so only 2 min walk to the main square of the town which is handy.
However, the hotel's service is really quite poor - they charge you for anything at literally any opportunity they get. (e.g they don't have an iron but will charge you to get it ironed, towels at the pool are 5 euros each, etc, etc). We arranged a return taxi transfer from Naples at a cost of 130 euro's each way for 2 people. We discovered that you could actually get the same thing for 70 euro's if you organised outside the hotel. We had to create a small fuss to get the hotel to reduce their price which did take the shine off the hotel - no-one likes to feel they're being ripped off. If you're planning something similar and can manage it, it would be worth organising transfers separately, might be a challenge but I'm sure it can be done!

We are very pleased to find out the clients liked our Hotel.
All rooms have their own peculiarity: different maiolica tiles, different size and colours.

Obviously, if the clients want to get more, they can ask for an higher category (Superior category) which can have Jacuzzi or terrace and are surely larger than the Standard category.
The Standard category is honestly priced and in, our opinion, it is not said that the Standard room must have the bath – most of the clients would rather have the shower instead!
As regards the Taxi, we are pleased to explain that the costs of the private transfer is the same of the square’s.
Obviously if the taxi (in the square) want to make unfair competition “under the desk”, the hotel will never know.
If the hotel requested to avoid the cancellation is because the driver (previously booked) claims the money for the “late cancellation” – the driver has a loss because he missed other occasions to work with other clients and, above all, he will have to move to the next round.
As you can see… it is not nice to think bad of the hotel. There is always a right motivation in anything it is proposed.

I highly recommend this conveniently located hotel. Hotel Giordano is well situated just a short walk from the main square, between a couple of great ceramic shops and a limoncello shop, . The typical local ceramic tile floors were a highlight of the beautiful non-fussy room with whitewashed walls, plenty of room for luggage, a large tub and separate shower, and comfortable beds. The views (of the sea) may be better at the more expensive Villa Maria, but the balconies at Hotel Giordano offer an interesting view of the action on the main square as well as the hills beyond. The breakfast was great - nice selections including fresh fruit salad, fresh squeezed orange juice, made to order eggs and great espresso or cafe Americano. Staff members were uniformly professional, pleasant and welcoming, and were very helpful in providing maps and suggesting walks, calling to check whether the ferries were running, and arranging to have our luggage transported to the bus stop. Staff at the affiliated travel company, Wagner Travel, located almost next door, were extremely helpful -suggesting and helping us arrange travel to Salerno (to catch the train to Rome) by bus and ferry rather than the more expensive option of hiring a driver.
