We just loved this very pretty hotel, wonderfully located on the waters edge with a bathing platform leading directly into the crystal clear sea. Our room was big with a fabulous balcony and a wonderful view. The evening meals were excellent, offering two choices for each course. and great local wines - again the restaurant had a lovely view. Of particular note was the very friendly and welcoming hosts, Nicola and Emilio spoke excellent English and were always available to provide help and advise. All the staff had a smile for us and did a great job. We would definitely return again.

We absolutely loved Villa San Michele. It is located in Ravello, just minutes from all the sights including Amalfi and Positano and all the beautiful towns in the area. It's not high up in Ravello but a perfect location pretty close to sea level. Directly across the street is a shop where you can purchase food/drinks if needed and other items. The bus stop is right across the street too. This proved to be highly desirable, as you will take the bus everywhere.
The Villa is absolutely stunning. Its gardens and walkways lead you down the property to different levels. The levels include the rooms, the restaurant, patio seating area, sun deck, and waterside deck level where you can go swimming.
We chose 1/2 board which included breakfast and dinner. The food is spectacular! The restaurant is a charming room with beautiful linens, candles, and a wall of windows that face the water. Looking out you can see fishermen bringing in their catch and watch the sunset. The breakfast served fresh squeezed orange juice and fresh croissants and rolls, coffee, tea, etc. For dinner, there were 2 courses plus dessert. Each night there were 2 different choices for each course. We had homemade ravioli stuffed with eggplant, homemade pasta with beans and mussels, lamb chops, fresh caught fish....did I say the food was delicious, lol!!!! One of my favorites was the dessert which was a homemade (of course) lemon mouse pie, yummy. My boyfriend's fave was the stuffed ravioli (mine too), I had many favorites :-)
The rooms were really pretty. They looked out on the water, in fact, the balcony perched over the water. We have the most amazing sunrise pictures that we took from the bed as the sun came in through the french doors. The bathroom wsa a good size too. Loved the tile floor in the bathroom and the Meditteranean feel of the rooms.
Our hosts, Nicola and his family were terrific. They are really nice and you can tell they take such pride in their property and everything they do. They really make you feel like your at a home away from home.
We can't wait to go back, hopefully next year.

About 4 years ago the Sunday Times in the UK featured the Villa San Michelle as a reasonable comparison against another hotel in Amalfi(which was expensive). I kept the details and decided to book the Villa San Michelle for our honeymoon. As you know, you are never to sure what you have booked until you actually arrive.
All concerns were swept aside on arrival. We stayed in room 116b for seven days and didnt really want to leave. Just the most spectacular views from the room, even lying in bed!!
The dining room was a delight and has a splendid atmosphere in the evenings. The owners and the staff are all really friendly. Unfortunatley, the Chef passed away whilst we were staying. This must have been a very sad time for the owners. However, they ensured that the hotel/dining continued to run in an extremely efficient manner. If you require a drink before dinner, i suggest the bar accross the road which is also a store. Very different. We will definetly return in the future.

If you are looking for a peaceful haven to relax and unwind-then look no further.

This family-owned and run hotel tucked on the edge of a seaside cliff below the road to Ravello offers beautiful, unobstructed sea views from each room. The rooms are clean and simply decorated. Emiliano, Nicola and extended family have created a relaxed atmosphere. They are willing to assist their guests with recommendations for local sites and restaurants etc.

This is a hidden gem-and I'm almost reluctant to say too much in case it becomes so popular that we can't make a reservation for the next visit!

My sister, mum and I stayed here earlier this year... and I have to admit guiltily that we agreed we loved it so much that we didn't want to share it with the world .. it was so gorgeous, so unbelievably breathtakingly beautiful that we wanted to keep it to ourselves... while people pay a fortune to stay in stuffy five-star hotels higher up the cliff, we were enjoying the bliss of staying in a hotel on the sea... waking up every morning, watching fishermen catch fish, opening french windows onto an azure sea, a beauiful hotel, amazingly hospitable family atmosphere, a mere stroll away (okay a downhill 10-min walk from the most amazing fish restaurant we have ever experienced) and probably a 15 min walk from Amalfi... but then, it seems too mean to keep this secret to ourselves... the family who run the hotel are so loving and so gracious, the hotel location is so breathtaking that you honestly will not believe it... we hope you all forgive us for wanting to keep this a secret for as long as possible! And if you stay, lucky, lucky you!

Our family of 6 spent 5 wonderful days at this little gem. The hotel is built into the cliffs overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, nestled in between Amalfi and Maori and below the center of Ravello. The hotel is clean and the rooms are comfortable. However, the best thing about this hotel is the service. It is family owned and operated. Nicolai and his family made us feel like welcome friends in their home. We did the half board which included breakfast and either dinner or lunch. The meals were home cooked and delicious. Swimming in the mediterranean was fantastic! This is also a great location for exploring other areas of the coast and Emiliano who speaks great English will help make all your plans for you. We are looking forward to going back!

We have just enjoyed a two-week holiday in Villa San Michele, Ravello, and fallen in love with the spectacular Amalfi scenery.

We selected the Villa San Michele Hotel after reading the reviews on Trip Advisor and booked the hotel ourselves. We had decided not to hire a car and the hotel arranged for a taxi to meet us at Naples Airport (cost Euro110 for the 80 minute journey to the hotel).

The hotel is set right on the side of the cliff and, initially, we were shocked by the number of steps we encountered - this would be a suitable hotel only for the fit or able. However, on the plus side, this enabled us to enjoy beautiful stone terraces bordered with swathes of bougainvillea and colourful flowers, along with spectacular sea views.

The owners, Nicola and Emiliano, were friendly and welcoming and we soon felt at home. Nicola arrived personally at each dining table to describe the menu for that day and we enjoyed the home-cooked food and beautifully cooked local fish served by Nicola and a very attentive friendly waiter. Just before our departure, we mentioned that we were going to cook an Italian meal for a group of friends at home, and we were even given several tins of Italian cherry tomatoes as a basis for the Pasta course!

The local bus service was very good, negotiating the hair-raising coastal roads, and enabling us to travel cheaply to many of the adjoining towns and villages. One of the highlights of the holiday was hiring a motorboat in Amalfi and enjoying the sea views of the villages along the coast, swimming from the boat at the Galli islands.

The weather was very hot – even by Italian standards – and we enjoyed going down the steps to the Hotel platform over the sea where we could sunbathe and then swim in the clear sparkling sea.

All-in-all we had a wonderful holiday, the Villa San Michele was a great base for exploring the area, and we totally fell in love with the spectacular Amalfi scenery.

Be warned, however, if you wish to purchase some Italian wine during your holiday, and take care from whom you order, or you may be left with an unexpected large bill and the most expensive pro rata Italian wine ever!
This was our chastening experience with a local wine merchant and the only real downside to our holiday….

We ordered a dozen bottles of Italian wine from Enotec Mansi, a wine merchant in Ravello, following our decision to purchase some local wine for a planned Italian meal at home. This order was required in time for a specific date, and payment for wine and delivery was agreed.

In the event the wine was not delivered and, Enotec amended the order to ‘Urgent’ in order to get the consignment to us on time. The change in priority meant an extra charge, which Enotec promised us that we would be reimbursed. We were thus forced to pay £94 when we collected the consignment personally from a depot some ten miles away.

However we have failed to get this promised reimbursement. Enotec does not respond to any correspondence and we are left with the feeling that we have been well and truly fleeced! Buyer Beware!!!
