We happened upon this wonderful hotel while driving through Ravello the first week of January. The room was quite large with beautiful handpainted tile floors throughout and balconies overlooking the coast with the most amazing views. The room was sparkling clean and nicely appointed and is centrally located within walking distance to the gardens of Villa Cimbrone and Villa Rufolo. We had dinner at the hotel and were delighted with our meal and the wine that was from Ravello. The owners and staff were pleasant and helpful. We were totally satisfied with everything about our stay and would not hesitate to return again.

We had lunch at this hotel - not good at all ! The views from the hotel are perfect, but the food is more than boring. There was no menu card - I thought I heard the waiter say sole fish, but it appeared to be sword fish - which was a very bad choice. When I ordered a glass of rosé wine, the waiter gave me a glass of white wine, when I told him that I had ordered something else, he said that I had to try this - and I had no say in it !! I will never go back !

We stayed at a different hotel for our trip in June and regretted it so much that we spent our last night in the Bonadies! What a pleasure it was to return here after our last stay a couple of years ago. The staff remembered us which was a very pleasant surprise!

The geographic location of the Bonadies is fantastic as you can get to the centre of Ravello, including Ruffolo gardens within 5 minutes walk and it is also only a couple of minutes walk from the bus stop to get down to Amalfi and surrounding resorts. Suita, who runs the Bonadies, has had a "hot tub" installed on the roof of the Hotel which has some of the best views of the coast that one could wish for. The rooms that adjoin the patio where the hot tub is situated are spacious and command the best vista ever!!!

The food is excellent and I would not consider anything but halfboard as the restaurant options in Ravello are limited! Once again the views from the restaurant terrace are second to none so dinning is a very pleasant experience. I could go on but the 4* rating is well deserved as far as I am concerned!

This was our fourth visit to Ravello and our first to this hotel. On arrival we were shown to our room and were really pleased as it was very large, with double doors to a sizeable balcony and best of all was the view which was stunning. However on closer inspection you could see it was a bit tatty in places and could really do with a bit of upgrading. eg ripped paintings on wall, broken telephone, broken chair. The staff on reception were very helpful as were the waiting staff led by Marcello in the evening. The food wasn't too bad and at least you had some limited choices. Breakfast however was a different matter! If you were up early it was ok, but any later then you were greeted by dirty and unmade tables, many of the breakfast choices had run out and the breakfast staff seemed indifferent to any requests for replacements.
As for Ravello, it seems to have lost some of its magic and is very expensive and not good value for money. In fact we felt quite "ripped off". Added to this you are now charged a local tax for each night of your stay that the hotel have to collect.
I doubt that we will ever return to this part of Italy which is sad as it had a special meaning for us.

Two nights at this hotel were wonderful. Large room and private bathroom on the first floor was very comfortable. The two double doors to the large private deck facing east were wonderful. We got up and opened the doors to watch the sun rise over the sea. It was really remarkable and beautiful. The bed was comfortable and the room was quiet. The hot water was not really hot, more like warm - wait and it gets warm enough to shower. Breakfast was a little below average with not much variety. Location is good - closer to the central Duomo plaza would be better. Also, we noticed road noise from the cars, scooters, horns from the busy eastern road below the hotel. Staff was really good - they continually tried to satisfy every need we brought to them. We would definitely stay at the Hotel Bonadies again - our stay was very special.

Room Tip: Make sure your room faces east.

Having visited Ravello on 2 occasions in 1998/99 we had always planned to return and our aim was to stay at the Bonadies. I can only assume that once allocated 4 star status, they just let standards plummet. The rooms are so basic, the public areas are dirty and there seems to be no care or attention paid to any of the problems that are so evident to guests. The hotel owners obviously rely on long term returning Italian guests who seem quite satisfied with the low standards. The only saving grace for this hotel is the team of staff on Reception, housekeeping and the wonderful dining room staff who make guests feel so welcome. Marcelo the maitre di runs an excellent dining room team and is wasted in such a shoddy establishment. The food service is excellent but the food is poor.

if you don't mind tatty chairs in the dining room, dirty cloths on the tables at breakfast time, and overloaded ashtrays on the tables at the front of the hotel, again with grubby tablecloths, then this is the place for you.

They don't deserve 4 star status and need to seriously consider refurbishment in many parts of the hotel. It may well have been a place of grandeur some 50 years ago but alas no longer, and nobody seems to care.

We paid extra for a room with front sea view and it was so basic, bordering on primitive. We didn't expect such low standards in a hotel with such a good reputation. The room was situated just 10 foot or so above the main road and the traffic noise made sleep impossible.

All in all, Ravello itself has certainly lost its allure and, considering visitors have to pay a local tax per night per star of the hotel, perhaps the community should think more about cleaning up the streets. Even in the bars in the Piazza Duomo it was impossible to find a table with a clean tablecloth. The bar owners must assume that visitors have no expectations of good standards. We have in the past recommended Ravello to many people but will not be doing so in future.

Room Tip: Give it a miss
