Hotel Villaggio Stromboli

This hotel is rather a small resort with rooms scattered all over it. Some of the rooms/apartments are old, some of them reconstructed or new. it seemed like almost nobody was accomodated in those latter ones.
the room we stayed in was clean thanks to the room attendants, but the furniture, windows, door etc. was old. we couldn't really lock the door and even when locked, it would take much effort to open it... It really needs to be renovated. We also met people that paid much lower price and had better room than we did, so I have no idea what is the key to assigning the rooms. also, we paid for a standard tripple room, but got a 2+1.
Many reception staff members did not speak english and when I needed to resolve some problems there was nobody who could talk to me at the moment so it never got resolved.
Other than that the resort was nice, lots of palm trees and other medieranean vegetation, nice private beach under the cliff, good restaurant (nice continental breakfast in the rate and optional dinners which were delicious), nice bar for drinks and a good swimming pool. there was no internet access available on the site. the hotel is about & km from tropea, so if you want to be close to a town with lots of restaurants and other services without having to drive or pay for a shuttle this would not be for you.

I would think twice before staying there again - nice enviroment, but kinda bad rooms and the front desk service.
So, as in the title, there are better choices out htere, and I certainly would look for them next time...

I have stayed in this hotel with my husband and a friend for 8 night. It is a very good hotel. The room was very nice and clean, big and with aircon. A big balcony with chairs and table+a clothes dryer. Everyday the room was cleaned at about 10 am, new fresh towels on the bed.
The only thing was that breakfast wasn't that exciting, not much variety, but with 2 local markets on the way to the city centre we could buy some fruit, bread, drinks etc.
You definitely will need a car, because the hotel is quite a long way from the city centre.
I have not been using the hotel pool nor the private beach. You need to pay for the pool, i thing 4 Euros for a day, but what fun is it to stay in the hotel, when there is a lovely beach next to teh city centre? Plus the provate beach is very stoney. I tried to get into the water, but with bare foot could not manage. The beach in Tropea city center is sandy, no worries there.
The bathroom in our room was big with a window and shower. There is an on site parking and staff very friendly and helpful. There have been parties every night in the hotel until midnight. The hotel is in a very nice location and quiet.
Overall Tropea isn't expensive at all. This is a place where i will definitely go again, not only once.

We have been there for 10 days with my wife and a young child (1 1/2 year at that time).
The hotel as an outstanding value for money especially in low season (June/Begin July and September). We didn't expect a 5* Hotel service and the reality was much better than the expectations. The hotel is run by a family and has a character, the sea is amazing and the beach is wonderful and quite and 90% private. There is a short and steep road to the sea but it's 100ish meters and we did with our child with no problems. The food is good and the restaurant service nice. The people are very friendly. I would recommend to go there with a car and visit the surroundings. Rooms are very clean and very large, we decided to take a "Comfort" room, which is more expensive but very reasonable price. The only problem I had was the disco till midnight. I would advice to ask for the apartments located far from the swimming pool, where the disco is. The view is astonishing, on clear days you can sea Stromboli island and the sun goes into the sea, just in front the hotel balcony. I will upload some pictures. We will go back in September 2009 also with my second child, 6 month old.
