“Biking at its Best”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 October 2013

This was our fourth year in a row at the Hotel Dory and it just keeps on getting better....a memorable biking vacation once again. The staff is so warm and hospitable and willing to do everything to make your stay comfortable. The food is bountiful and varied and always delicious!
The cycling routes are challenging and interesting.....my husband rides with the Super Cappucinos and I enjoy the "Bikeness" group. Sandro, my guide is so attentive and informative and we see interesting sites along the routes....and there is so much to see and savour. The highlight for us is the wine/olive oil tasting lunch and of course the picnic lunch another day at the owner's country house. We highly recommend this Hotel for couples or singles looking for a great cycling experience in a friendly environment. The Scott bikes are top notch, the hotel is clean and comfortable, the staff is warm and friendly, the cycling guides are excellent, and you always meet interesting cyclist!

Room Tip: The Jr. Suites and the D Bldg suites are the largest rooms and very comfortable

I was one of a group of 7 that stayed for a week at the Hotel Dory. The food, service, staff, flexibility, rides, and beverages were way above what I expected. The food is fresh, great variety, and endless. Staff was attentive, and was helpful in making my departure easy (i had to leave one day early). The rides were separated by ability, and went through gorgeous countryside. The destinations were interesting - one day to San Marino, another to a winery for a wine tasting. The guides were helpful in keeping us safe, stopping to caution us when terrain got steep or curvy. Our plan had beer, wine, and coffee drinks included, which made for great evenings. We also enjoyed meeting other riders, particularly the Canadians.

Room Tip: We liked the regular hotel - it was more convenient. For noise, I would pick a higher room - we wer...

My husband and I cycle at different levels, which has been challenging on our cycling trips in the past. We have now found the perfect answer. The Hotel Dory is heaven for "mixed cycling marriages" like ours. He could ride with the Limoncinos (crazy spokeheads who rode long and hard), while I could ride with the Cappucino Lights ("only" 42-65 miles a day, and at a nice pace)—there are 5 levels of riding available. It was so wonderful to both be completely happy at the end of the day. The Hotel Dory knows what it's doing. We were part of a group of about 25 Vermonters (some of whom had been there before), and we had a blast. The camaraderie that the owner Stephano creates is palpable. Groups from all over the world mingled, sang, rode together and just plain had fun. It was like summer camp for adults—cycling enthusiast adults. No bug juice though—free wine and beer instead. And gourmet meals served buffet style. I was concerned before we went because I'm a foodie, and being in Italy and eating from a buffet seemed like a sacrilege, but the food was really, really good. Not just plentiful, but beautiful and delicious—fresh fish, roast pork complete with crackling skin, two pastas at lunch and dinner, tons of appetizers, amazing salad ingredients, wonderful desserts, healthy breakfasts to fuel our days. The guides were wonderful, too, and took us on rides that were unforgettable. The Scott bikes are great (women might want to take their own saddles—I got the last woman's saddle, and my friends suffered a little). Our room was spacious and clean, far better than I expected as we were put into a junior suite so had a living room with a kitchenette and a balcony from which we could see the sea. Having the gorgeous sandy beach only a block away, for when we got back, was priceless. My friends loved the shopping; I loved the gelato at the end of the block. The masseuse knew how to help cyclist pains. Stephano was so gracious and lots of fun and made every day special. We all loved every minute of this trip. My husband—who is not a group person—is ready to go back next year. Perfection!

Room Tip: Go for the junior suites if you like to spread out, and try for an upper floor so you can have a bal...

This was my 3rd trip to Hotel Dory and each time has just gotten better. Walking into Hotel Dory is like being greeted by family and I can't say enough wonderful things about the staff. While all the cycling is fabulous you get so much more with this experience. The food and wine tasting is always a highlight for me as well as the ability to walk to the beach, soak in the hot tub, and walk down the street for gelato. Most of all, I love that you are able to connect with passionate cyclists from around the world! I highly recommend Hotel Dory for a vacation you won't ever forget!

The cycling tours with Hotel Dory are a well oiled and finely tuned high performance machine. Everything has been thoroughly thought out, detailed and planned. From making sure the cyclists are properly fed with an ever changing sumptuous buffet, to the incredible Scott bikes (I have to find what the cassettes are because the gearing is much better than what I have now), to the tours and the great tour leaders.

The Hotel is well appointed and the interior finishes and decor refined. The appearance is sophisticated but ambiance, like a mirror and reflects the guests moods. In our case, being a bunch of really "happy campers" of some 70 riders with varying riding levels, the ambiance was jovial, rambunctious, perpetually up beat and relaxed all at once.

Much is attributed to be well taken care of by the wonderful attentive staff and Stefano the gracious and his cast of exquisite group leaders. Now. Stefano is the least pretentious Hotel manager I have ever met and has every right to be given what he does and his position, but he is not. His family owns the hotel and he and his family hosts all of the riders every year at their family villa where there are rows of tables and benches and a splendid outdoor feast.

Stefano does all of this along with running the family fine and sublime balsamic vinegar operation for 4 years. Stefano is Hotel Dory, sophisticated and funny and passionate and sexy. And the cycling leaders? They are every bit as much plus they are superb cyclists.

Salute to Camp Hotel Dory!

Ciao!

Our trip to Hotel Dory this past September was unique, fun and invigorating! It was our first cycling vacation and our experience surpassed expectations. The property is very well kept and is situated only a block from the beach. The accommodations were very good, the bikes were top notch, service was excellent and the food, while served buffet style, was surprisingly good and plentiful. Our guides really made the biking part of the trip extra special. The rides were varied, challenging and offered some of the most scenic vistas imaginable. Everyone could find a suitable group to ride with and at the end of the day smiles were everywhere. The rooms were clean and the layout ideal. It offered everyone the opportunity to meet fellow riders from all over the world and the camaraderie was obvious from day one. Congratulations to Stephano and his team for creating such a wonderful vacation concept. We loved it!

This was my fourth time in a row at Hotel Dory. This hotel is the best place imaginable for anyone looking for a relaxing cycling holiday. Everything works really well at the hotel, the whole place is modern and kept clean, the food is excellent, the bike rides are a lot of fun in great sceneries and the best part is the atmosphere.

You can choose from several different-paced groups for the bike rides, there's everything from sightseeing to challengingly fast groups led by ex-pros. The bike rides are an excellent way to see the surrounding countryside, too.

The food is buffet style and there are plenty of options laid out beautifully. Once a week the lunch is served at the hotel owner family's country house and you'll see the owner Stefano himself at the hotel pretty much everyday making sure the guests are enjoying themselves. That's always a nice touch.

The hotel is located only a block away from the Adriatic coastline, so you can take a dip in the sea and enjoy the sun on the beach after a hard day of cycling. You can also use the hotel's spa amenities that include a couple of jacuzzis and two different types of saunas.

In the evening you can take a stroll in the shopping streets of Riccione or go have a drink or a gelato in one of the many bars in the town. Everything's just a short walk away.

Late September is the perfect time for cyclists to travel to Riccione, as the weather is perfect, not too hot anymore and not rainy yet, and the busy beach season has already ended. This year was absolutely perfect for us, not a cloud in the sky and daytime temperatures above 25C in the sun. The sea was warm enough to swim in, too.

The best part at the Dory is the amazing atmosphere. It's largely thanks to the great fellow guests, too. Hotel Dory is a place where I get to see my international cyclist friends from past years and also meet new ones. You really don't have to be alone there, it's like one big family of cyclists.

A true five-star place for the price of a three-star hotel. Needless to say, I'm looking forward to returning again next fall, for the fifth time.
