My family and I (my husband and 11 year old daughter) spent the first two weeks of August at the delightful Hotel Garda in Riva. It was our first visit to Italy and we could not have been made to feel more welcome. The hotel throughout is spotlessly clean, and well maintained. The reception staff which included the hotel owner Gabriela, were the friendliest and most genuine we have ever encountered. They always made a special fuss over our daughter and she loved going behind reception to see the hotel dog, (real home from home.) The same excellent service was found in the restaurant, where Hakim, Julian, Michele and Felician were friendly, efficient and attentive. The food was excellent, with a vast varied choice at every meal time and if that wasn't enough on gala evenings additional food, such as chocolate fondue with fruit, was brought to the tables outside after dinner. We travelled with Thomsons half board, however this included a light Italian lunch and a half litre of wine and water with our evening meal every day, this was a really nice bonus, as was the delicious selection of fresh cakes and fruit served with coffee every afternoon by the hotel. Our room was on the fourth floor and had a terrific view over the swimming pool, lake and mountains. The bed was comfortable and the room spacious enough for three of us. The bedding and towels were changed frequently and the room was cleaned thoroughly every day. The swimming pool was never crowded and being open from 7am allowed for a relaxing early morning swim. With such an amazing hotel it is surprising we ventured out but we did. The hotel is in an excellent location with the walk to the centre of Riva taking around twenty minutes along a very picturesque footpath by the lake. We also used the free cycles provided by the hotel to visit the nearby resort of Torbole and the small village of Arco. Both could be reached on excellent cycle paths alongside the lake and vineyards. From Riva we took boats to other resorts around the lake, each stop as beautiful as the last. We visited Venice on a Thomsons day trip, and sitting in St. Marks Square and riding on a Gondola made it one of the most memorable days of the holiday. Our Thomson travel adviser Jack was very friendly, knowledgeable and happy to help if required. We would definitely recommend the Hotel Garda to anyone wishing to visit this part of Italy and hope to return again ourselves very soon. P.S Italian ice cream is out of this world!!
