“Sensational stay at Hotel Garda”
Reviewed 27 August 2014

My family and I (my husband and 11 year old daughter) spent the first two weeks of August at the delightful Hotel Garda in Riva. It was our first visit to Italy and we could not have been made to feel more welcome. The hotel throughout is spotlessly clean, and well maintained. The reception staff which included the hotel owner Gabriela, were the friendliest and most genuine we have ever encountered. They always made a special fuss over our daughter and she loved going behind reception to see the hotel dog, (real home from home.) The same excellent service was found in the restaurant, where Hakim, Julian, Michele and Felician were friendly, efficient and attentive. The food was excellent, with a vast varied choice at every meal time and if that wasn't enough on gala evenings additional food, such as chocolate fondue with fruit, was brought to the tables outside after dinner. We travelled with Thomsons half board, however this included a light Italian lunch and a half litre of wine and water with our evening meal every day, this was a really nice bonus, as was the delicious selection of fresh cakes and fruit served with coffee every afternoon by the hotel. Our room was on the fourth floor and had a terrific view over the swimming pool, lake and mountains. The bed was comfortable and the room spacious enough for three of us. The bedding and towels were changed frequently and the room was cleaned thoroughly every day. The swimming pool was never crowded and being open from 7am allowed for a relaxing early morning swim. With such an amazing hotel it is surprising we ventured out but we did. The hotel is in an excellent location with the walk to the centre of Riva taking around twenty minutes along a very picturesque footpath by the lake. We also used the free cycles provided by the hotel to visit the nearby resort of Torbole and the small village of Arco. Both could be reached on excellent cycle paths alongside the lake and vineyards. From Riva we took boats to other resorts around the lake, each stop as beautiful as the last. We visited Venice on a Thomsons day trip, and sitting in St. Marks Square and riding on a Gondola made it one of the most memorable days of the holiday. Our Thomson travel adviser Jack was very friendly, knowledgeable and happy to help if required. We would definitely recommend the Hotel Garda to anyone wishing to visit this part of Italy and hope to return again ourselves very soon. P.S Italian ice cream is out of this world!!

We returned on Saturday after spending two weeks at the Hotel Garda. I can honestly say it is the best hotel we have ever stayed in. We were warmly welcomed by all of the staff who cannot do enough for you. They all took great care of us and were very attentive throughout our holiday. The hotel is in a superb location, just a short walk from the lake. We used the hotel bikes everyday and visited many different villages in the area, our favourite being Arco. The hotel was extremely clean and well maintained. We dined in the restaurant every night and the food was out of this world!. We loved Riva as there is so much to do there and it is very beautiful. We will definitely stay in a Tonelli hotel again and cannot recommend it highly enough. Thank you very much for giving us the holiday of a lifetime!, See you soon. Caryn, Darran, Rhianna and Cathryn Jones.

Room Tip: We had a room on the first floor which had a big balcony and overlooked the swimming pool. The view...

My family and i (eleven of us in total) returned yesterday from two weeks at The Hotel Garda, this was our third stay in this hotel and what can i say, it just keeps on getting better and better every year. The Hotel is a family owned and run and isn't as large as the other hotels the Tonelli family own (i believe) but this makes it extra special, you feel like a member of the family rather than just a guest as we were remembered from the previous year by all the staff and were welcomed by the Manageress of the Hotel, Gabriela. The Hotel itself is very clean, the downstairs bar area is open and spacious with leather sofas, chairs and tables and chairs and the dining room upstairs is more of a traditional homely Italian feel to it. The food in the hotel just keeps on getting better and better, every evening was a cornucopia of Italian delights and the selection at breakfast was as abundant as ever with everything from bacon and eggs and cereal to your continental meats and cheeses, there is honestly something for everybody, just a quick shoutout to Hakim, Felician and Michele who served our table most nights. They work ever so hard and always found time to have a joke and a little laugh with you and made meal times extra enjoyable. The rooms were spacious and very clean and the bathroom was modern and well maintained. We had a room on the second floor at the front of the hotel and although the view was good if you would prefer a view of the lake request a room on the fourth floor as the views are stunning up there. It is a short walk into Riva itself from the hotel at around 15-20 minutes along the side of the lake or around 10 minutes if you walk alongside the main road, Bike hire is available too from the hotel at no extra cost. All in all we all had a fabulous two weeks at a hotel that really is a diamond in the crown of Riva. One quick last note is about Gabriela the owner of the hotel, she is an absolute diamond, she made a fuss of my youngest cousin whenever she saw him, she was there at half past 7 one morning when we went to Milan having gone home at just gone eleven the night before and as still working when we returned at seven in the evening, she is the ultimate hostess and has the best interests of all her guests to make you feel welcome plus the fact that as a leaving present to all the guests that were checking out that day they gave out free bottles of Limoncello as a thankyou . Hotel Garda, you're only getting better and better every year.

My family and I ( my husband, 13 year old daughter and Grandmother) recently stayed at the lovely Hotel Garda for 2 weeks at the end of July/August. We had a really relaxing time, which was mainly down to the Hotel and Staff. All the staff were very welcoming and really went the extra mile to make sure we had an excellent holiday. This really makes it different from most of the other hotels in Riva, as it had a home from home feel.
There was even a friendly Hotel dog (kept behind the scenes though) who we got to take walks, which stopped my daughter from missing our dog so much! Her Grandmother even ventured out with us all on the Hotel Bikes which we made use of every day! (only 10 mins. cycle ride into centre of Riva along the lake)
The food, home cooked by the friendly chef, was great and we ate far too much! Even though it was half board, we had a lunchtime buffet provided by the hotel and even had free House Wine with Dinner.
The size of the hotel was good and there was a quiet, friendly atmosphere. Although space around the pool was sometimes a little tight, there was mention of another terrace area being built on the rooftop for next Summer, which would alleviate the main pool area.
Cleanliness was excellent and sheets/towels changed every day by the lovely room maids.
The ice cream parlour opposite the hotel was a real hit too.
We hired a car from the very good car hire opposite the hotel and ventured into the Dolomites, which are not to be missed!
We would all recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a relaxing holiday.

Room Tip: Higher floors on the front of the hotel have a better view of the lake and mountains!

We stayed in Hotel Garda in July for 2 weeks. The food was excellent, with a wide variety available. The staff were very welcoming and attentive. We would like to give a special mention to one of the waitors - Felician who served our table most nights. The rooms were good too , although the better the view depended on the floor your room was on . We were on floor number 1 and our rooms were at the front. We had a view of the pool and the mountains, floors higher than ours had a view of the lake. The facilities in the hotel were good ,i.e. there was table tennis and free bike hire. The hotel was situated 15 mins from the main part of Riva Del garda and only 3 mins from the lake front ( walk). We are definitely thinking of returning to the hotel next summer although the weather wasn't as good as we had hoped.

Room Tip: Try get a room above the second floor

My friend and I stayed at the Hotel Garda in July as we were attending a wedding a few miles away. What a find! We were well looked after by all the staff; nothing was too much trouble for them. We stayed in a lake view room which was very spacious. The choice at breakfast was vast and the complimentary afternoon tea & cake was gorgeous (we were only on BB so cannot comment on the evening meals). Free car parking was a bonus. Riva is a beautiful town and it is very easy to walk from the hotel into the centre. All in all a lovely stay and we will definitely return.

We have just returned from a week's holiday in Riva. What a beautiful picturesque town. No grafitti, rubbish or yobs! Something for everyone here. Watersports, tours and scenery. Fantastic hotel. Very efficient staff and all very friendly and helpful. Excellent food. Loved the use of the bicycles. Afternoon tea is not to be missed. Wine included with your meal was a bonus. Would definitely go again.
(Do not recommend VOLOTEA airlines. The worst we have ever have flown with. Delays at both ends. Had to send a plane from Malta to get us home eventually.)

Room Tip: Side facing room looked out into the country side which was lovely
