“Brilliant hotel just a few areas for improvement”
Reviewed 12 June 2012 via mobile

We stayed at the Savoy Palace in May and overall had a very enjoyable stay. We were in a delux room which was large and very clean. My only complaint about the room is that we were on the first floor above reception. From around 6am each morning it was impossible to sleep and sometimes felt like we were on a motorway services with constant arrival and departure of coaches and people coming in and out of reception, this was very frustrating at times. We asked if we could move rooms however there were no other delux rooms available and the other rooms that were offered to us were very small so we elected to stay where we were. There was also some work being carried out to the pipe work in the underground garage which would again start at 7am with circular saws. Although these early starts did irritate us we never heard noise in really unsociable hours and we didnt hear noise from other rooms, in a way it was a good excuse to get up and enjoy the stunning scenery.
During our stay the wifi only worked in the public areas however this seemed to be resolved shortly before we left.
As our stay was in early May the air con was not on due to the environmental laws, on some days the temperature was in the 30s which meant night times could be very stuffy. The balconys are only separated by a waste height barriers and the patio doors were either closed completely or open. Being on the first floor we therefore didn't feel secure enough to sleep with the patio door open leading to some uncomfortable nights . Some hotels have doors which lock allowing air in but not leaving a big enough gap for anyone to enter - maybe this is something the hotel should consider.
We did enjoy our stay and the food was good although the English translation was interesting at times, it's worth reading the German and Italian because you can probably make more sense of that on occasion. The regular free cocktail after dinner every few nights was also a nice touch. Riva itself and Lake Garda is a truly stunning place and I cannot recommend it enough.

Super friendly staff, meals excellent. Super Clean hotel.great room with balcony overlooking reception area and parked coaches which if patio doors open in morning would wake you up with engines running. However, if doors closed was fine. It's been a little windy and rainy so didn't get to use outside pool but inside pool is great with mini gym and sauna. Great location, super exciursions and great reps. would certainly come back.

This was my first visit to Italy and what a place! The hotel was fantastic I would recommend it without a doubt. Mr Tonnelli and his family certainly have the right idea of how to run a hotel .

We were on a tour with Riviera travel and again a 1st class experience
Mr Tonnelli keep up the good work!!!!!!!!!!!

This was a excellent Holiday booked through Riviera Travel who are extremely well organised from the moment you get off the plane until you get back on it. The Hotel itself is run by the owner who seeing the size of the Hotel is amazing as to the amount of energy he has. There is no job he is not willing to do from cleaning to laying paving blocks and he is a perfectionist in how it should be done. The excellent staff also seem to be multi skilled as to their duties and are very attentive as was demonstrated when one of our party was a little unwell and did not attend the evening meal and our waiter asked would we like him to arrange for the kitchen to prepare anything she may like. The beds are comfortable and the rooms quiet. For a person who is quite picky when it comes to food I found the food to be excellent which allowed me to sample quite a few dishes that I not had before

Room Tip: Rooms on the South side on the higher floors have a view of the lake given that the hotel in set sli...

We went to Riva del Garda with Newmarket Holidays for a week in May. We flew into Milan Bergamo quite late at night and it is a 3 hour transfer to the hotel. If you can fly into Verona instead of Bergamo, you will save at least 2 hours on that. We arrived about 2:00am in the morning but the hotel had a cold meal waiting along with wine and coffee. Very good service !
The hotel is a little way out of the town area but there are plenty of shops, bars and restaurants nearby. It is also on the bus route, wih a nearby bus stop, down the side of the lake, calling in at all the other towns down that side and finishing up in Verona two and a half hours later.
The only thing to be wary of being a bit out of town is that it is a good 30 mins walk to where you get the boat and 40 mins would be a more comfortable proposition.
The hotel is fairly large, the dining room is enormous. The rooms are very comfortable, a decent size and very well cleaned. English tv is BBC News and CNN.The bathroom is excellent.
The breakfast choice is extensive, there is something for everybody. English and German type breakfast foods dominate as these are the bulk of the guests. You can get fried eggs at breakfast although it took me the best part of the week to spot them ! All good quality stuff although I have a thing about watery orange juice at breakfast and I know from many years experience it is only rarely a hotel provides good orange juice for breakfast, this one is not bad but could be better. One feature we thought was excellent was that on your first appearance in the dining room you were escorted to your table and that was your own table for the week. So no searching around for somewhere to sit every night or breakfast. Aternoon tea/coffee and cakes are provided also.
There is a small gym and a nice indoor pool. Free wifi is also provided. The staff are efficient and friendly.
Riva is a very nice town, bigger than most around the north end with plenty of the usual tourist requirements of bars cafes and restaurants and of course Gelaterie (plural of gelateria !)
A great feature of Riva is the walking and cycling paths along the lakeside. Good to use a free bike provided by the hotel for a closer look at the scenery.
The bus nos 62 and 64 ( blue buses )stop near the hotel and we took the bus down the lake to Bardolino and found that you could walk north to the next town Garda along the Lakeside so it may be a common feature of the lake to provide a pathway along it.
We also took a boat to Malcesine, a lovely "chocolate box" type place. At Malcesine there is a cable car ( funivia in Italian ) up the mountainside. It was eu19 from memory but Seniors get 20% discount. Only go on a clear sunny day when the views are magnificent. There are also bars and restaurants up there, From memory it is about 1800 metres high or roughly 5900 feet.
The ferries are relatively dear although Seniors get I think a 10% discount but only if you ask., the buses are much cheaper.
We were half board and each morning you make you choices for the evening meal. The meals don't follow the traditional British pattern. There is a choice from one or more of three self service starters, one being salad and then there are three further courses served by waiters. The first is a pasta type dish the second based on meat and the third a sweet. hardly any vegetables are served and each plate is a modest offering but at the end of it all you will find it enough, it's just a different way of doing it. The quality is good bearing in mind that any Hotel dinner rarely has sizeable portions of quality meat. We only had one course that was disappointing in the whole week, if you see rabbit on the menu I would give it a miss as it's largely bone. The Newmarket deal included house wine and water at dinner but you could purchase better quality wines if you were so minded.
I wouldn't have any hesitation in thoroughly recommending this hotel, we had a great stay there.

Room Tip: Stayed in a back room so don't know if front rooms got traffic noise. At the back on the north...

This was the first time we had been to Lake Garda, and indeed Italy.
We booked our holiday through Newmarket Holidays, and chose the Savoy Palace, with a balcony upgrade, after looking at the reviews on Trip Advisor.
We could find no fault with the hotel: the rooms were nice, the staff helpful and friendly, and the food (lots of it) was excellent - wide choices and well cooked.
I would hilghly recommend this to anyone looking for a quality hotel in Riva Del Garda - we will definitely use it again.

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony room overlooking the pool or up the valley (north).

The Savoy Palace is a very busy Hotel used mostly by Tour Groups. It operates under the careful eye of the owner and his family. Every effort is made to ensure customer satisfaction and this is achieved in every aspect of the business.
The food and Dining Room service were both good as was the condition of the bedrooms. A small criticism related to the sound insulation between rooms is worth a mention but is not a real problem bearing in mind the age of the average guest.
Overall a good hotel experience.
