“Great service - and all with a smile!”
Reviewed 8 March 2014

Being gluten and diary intolerant I always expect a challenge on the food front, but was so impressed. Firstly the evening meal starts with a buffet with a great selection. Then each day you choose from 3 starters, mains and puddings. Well the starters are as big as a main and if you choose from the buffet, just a starter was enough for me.
When I mentioned my dietary challenges, the team went to great lengths to accommodate. So impressed and grateful. Great choice of foods and very nice.
All the staff are so friendly and helpful.
There are four floors - with a working lift! Mainly adults, groups of friends, only a couple of kids.
Would definitely consider going again.

Hotel is very central, literally couple minutes walk to the centre. Minutes walk to bus stop.
All inclusive with drinks from 4.30-10.30pm in the bar/lounge which has large tv.

Getting to the slopes- You're told the bus goes every 15 mins. It doesn't. More like every 40, but it's easy to catch to the ski lift. 20€ will buy you a deposit to leave your kit up the slopes at sportina. Well well worth it. Don't bother carrying your kit up and down each day.
Great choice of slopes and can travel across to other valleys. Mostly chairs, one bubble and a couple of button drag lifts. Slopes well bashed, fairly easy on ratings - black like French Porte de soleil red etc. Food on slopes limited. Junk food generally but cheap. 5-10€ for something to keep you going. Half price of French alps. You do get a packed lunch from hotel if you want it.
Village/town centre had quite a few bars if that's what you want. Drinks not cheap but ok. Wasn't overly busy. Was told its quieter nowadays. Don't know why.
Also a bank, pharmacy and supermarket and a number of ski gear shops.

Room Tip: Only criticism - beds can feel the springs and the bedding - blankets - had to ask for another as wa...

Stayed in 4 rooms with a group of 8 friends and family. Firstly, to put this in context, the whole holiday was £830 fully inclusive, with flights and area lift passes. Cheap as chips!

The hotel is warm, reasonably clean, plenty of hot water. The breakfast is excellent, packed lunch acceptable, (TBH, you can eat on the mountain very cheaply in Sauze, with a hot meal with a drink for under 10 Euros), the evening meal sort of splits into 2 parts. You order your meal for the following evening the night before. There are 3 courses, and from our experience, the starter and sweet were great, the main course was ok, though not as good as the rest. The weird part was a sort of pre starter buffet, which was probably better than the rest of the meal, albeit a bit of a bun fight. They could save a considerable amount of money by cutting one of the courses, there would still be more than enough!

The rooms were small but comfy, though our tv was virtually over the bed and you had to be laid down flat to watch it. The cleanliness in the room could have been better, though the maid said they were only allowed 10 minutes per room. The wooden floor wasn't swept all week, which meant there was quite a lot of dust and debris by the week end. You could dry your kit in the bathroom, as the heated towel rail was always on, and it made a great drying room.

Staff were helpful & friendly. The guys from the local ski school were there in the evening too, and were very helpful as well.

You could walk to the Sportinia lift in the morning, but it's a bit of a drag to be fair. The free shuttle provided by the town is supposed to run every 15 minutes. In reality its more like every minutes, which eats in to your skiing time. A massive bonus to this hotel would be the provision of a free minibus shuttle for an hour and a half in the morning and evening. They could pay for it with the money they saved on the food if they cut out a course!

Overall, a great holiday, I would go back to this hotel, but to be fair, only if I couldn't get anything better, which I think I probably could.

Room Tip: Ask for a larger room as there are some quite large differences. We had 4 rooms all different sizes.

We booked as full board in ski season, hotel was very friendly, any queries or questions, the staff did their utmost to help or find out. Rooms clean & perfectly good enough for a base, some rooms bigger than others but all bathrooms have plenty of room for drying ski gear etc. great views all around. Food was good for the cost of the holiday, Reading previous reviews about food 'issues'. I put on half a stone in this week & ski'd every day!!! listen folks, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!!! It's all inclusive plenty of choice for breakfast, a budget pack up consisting of 2 filled small rolls, 1 satsuma & small chocolate bar -if required-, 4 course evening meal. & if your fussy about food fill up on the 'pre starter' buffet you can't go wrong. Free bar in the late afternoon-early evening. Service was very very efficient for Italy?.
Sauna was excellent, though we didn't try the jaquzzi.
Hotel located in a quieter area 5 mins walk from center of Sauze, 10 minute uphill walk to the lowest & nearest chairlift to Clotes or 15-20 minute walk to the Sportina lift , where at the top of the 1st chair aminities like bars, restaurants, ski school, nursery slopes, lockers, deck chairs etc. are located (excellent base area). Also there's a ski bus at the end of a 100 metre lane from the hotel which can become crowded at peak times & are fairly irregular. or more frequent & less crowded (3 lines) from the centre of Sauze. We would definitely go back again soon I hope.

Room Tip: Only 1 lift but shallow stairs, 1st floor can be a bit noisy from below bar area & our room on 4...

We had 2 rooms with balconies, they were plenty big enough. Staff very friendly. Food was what we expected for the price, we never went hungry in fact the opposite. Hot tub not hot but the sauna was. Rooms spotless. Great position. Internet hit and miss. We will be returning next year..

We stayed in the Miravalle as a group of 9 in January 2014.

Location - the hotel is fairly well located - it's in a quiet area, reached by cobbled streets (though these can be quite slippery) and despite reviews suggesting that Sauze is rather unattractive I actually found it quite pleasant. Certainly better than the neighbouring and hideous Sestriere! It is, however, a 10 - 15 minute slog uphill to get to the nearest lift (Clotes) which isn't all that much fun with full gear. Fortunately I have a very obedient boyfriend to carry my snowboard, as even the fittest of our group were most certainly sufficiently warmed up after the walk!

Rooms - The rooms are small, we had a twin room and there wasn't enough space really to push the beds together into a double. There is a decent sized cupboard with small drawers and a safe, and a table along with a TV which has a couple of English language channels. The rooms do have a tiled 'porch' space that is just about big enough to store all your wet gear. We also stored our boards here as the store room in the basement wasn't secure enough for our liking, being accessible from the outside and with the door permanently unlocked/open. The bathroom is a decent size, we did find the hot water would go halfway through a shower then return a minute or so later, so you either have to endure a few minutes of cold water or turn it up and get a bit scorched when it comes back! Previous reviews have mentioned the hairdryer, it's not great but it's only about the same as a cheap travel hairdryer so I was OK with it. The rooms are now accessed only by key, not keycard, and seemed perfectly secure. Most importantly, the beds are comfortable!

Food - I wasn't overly impressed with the food. The sausages in the morning seemed to often be pink in the middle and the bacon was mostly fat, so I stuck to cereal. There was a good selection of tea, cereal and bread for toasting as well as muffins and various sweet cakes. Some of the sweet things seemed to be leftovers from previous dinners, which was a bit of a theme - much of the 'salad' buffet food was leftovers from breakfast! The lunches were a very dreary affair, no chocolate bar provided as mentioned in previous reviews, just two sandwiches (though these could be topped up from the breakfast buffet). The 'salad' buffet is the highlight of the evening meal, many of my group ended up stuffing ourselves with that because the actual main meals were generally poor. The chicken wings were superb, get there early though or there won't be anything left! As with the breakfast bacon, the meat was often very fatty and the sides were the same for every dish - every night was just some form of potato (eg. croquettes or chips) and a few bits of veg. No thought put into the meals at all, it seemed.
In general - The serving/cleaning staff are all very friendly, though the receptionist seemed a little standoffish she was helpful if needed. The bar is free from 4.30 - 10, spirits are served very liberally (I usually had vodka and sprite, which seemed to often be 50/50!). The wines, particularly those served with the evening meal, weren't very nice but there's plenty of other drinks to be had. The bar area is really too small with not enough seating, which was very frustrating in a large group as someone would have to be there by 4.30 to ensure we could all sit down. We had one rowdy group in the hotel with us who made a lot of noise in the corridors one night but otherwise it was fairly quiet.

Mountain - We were lucky with snow in Sauze and had plenty of it, though we still found that there were stones and grit coming through the snow even in the morning on the piste and the snow cannons seemed to be on permanently. As snowboarders we were glad to able to mostly avoid drag lifts though it does stop you accessing certain runs. It's also worth noting that many of the reds aren't reds at all - Red 11 in particular is a gorgeous, cruising run that we all loved, even the nervous/new riders. In general it was very easy to get around the slopes as many runs come back to the same points, making it easy to meet up with friends. There was also (on the days it wasn't covered in a foot of snow!) a good, well maintained little board park under the top Sportinia lift with some ride-on, easy boxes/rails and an enthusiastic Scot working there, and offering guidance to anyone coming down. The chairlifts are a little slow but easy to get on and off and there wasn't much in the way of queues whilst we were there, though when they were it was a bit of a melee and very difficult to get through.

In all, a nice and convenient resort (though don't expect the locally driven coaches to do what they're supposed to!) with some great, if over classified, wide runs both above and below the treeline. The Miravalle is definitely good hotel for anyone on a budget who wants everything sorted for them in advance and a comfy bed to sleep in. Just make sure to fill up on the buffet!

Stayed here full board as part of a ski holiday. Bar is open for free drinks 16:30-22:30 Tuborg on tap. Very clean. Rooms are small but your only using them as a base. Food good and lots of it but the buffet is a bit stodgy and lacks variety at breakfast.

Just came home from another fantastic holiday to Sauze. We have stayed at this hotel three times now so we knew what to expect. We like staying in the old town and usually catch the ski bus to the sportinia lift which run every 15 mins. The hotel itself is clean and well located in the beautiful old town, rooms are small, basic and always clean. The breakfast was good and so was the packed lunches, the drinks are now all local brands but still good, found out you could get prosecco on the all inclusive drinks. The only disappointing thing was the evening meals, sometimes cold, not very well presented and not as described on the menu. We know it is a three star and not expecting Michelin star food, but the standard had definitely dropped since the last time we had stayed. Unfortunately we will stay at a different hotel when we return next year.

Room Tip: Upgrade to a balcony room so it will be bigger.
