“Great hotel, perfect location”
Reviewed 7 October 2009

We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights in September, the hotel has indeed an old charm. The rooms and bathrooms are spacious and tastefully decorated. It is very conveniently located to explore the Liguria coast, as well as to go to Monako or Nice.

The breakfast is served in a garden with a nice view, the pool is nice and the sea beach is 5 minutes to walk.

We really enojed our stay there. San Remo is a smallm quiet and charming place.

Special thanks to Mrs.Antonella Giordano, who was very helpful in reservation process

Booked this hotel thruogh The LHW site for only 2 nights during our anniversary trip and we were not disappointed.
We were greeted by smart and charming Alessandro at the reception and a minute later he showed us to a room. It was an amasing room on a high floor with stunning sea view!I was so much pleasantly surprised because I booked the least expensive hill-view room. Besides this surprise a big plate of fresh fruits, a bottle of my favorite Prosecco di Valdobbiadene brand on ice(specially bottled for Royal Hotel) and a big bottle of perfect Ligurian olive oil waited for us. Alessandro also gave us the general info of the hotel and services.
We didn't eat at the hotel exept breakfast which is just fabulous with a very good choice of everything, eggs made to order and perfect coffee.
The pool area is really lovely as well as the beach facilities and the staff is very friendly and helpful.
The bar is quite pricey....but for 5* is a usual thing.
We enjoyed the pianist who is playing every evening at the bar.
On the last day I asked for a late check-out and it was settled with a smile by a friendly lady at reception.
Sanremo is a quiet, traditional, a bit old fashioned town....and it's one of my favotire sea-resorts in all Italy.
I am dreaming to return to Royal and I hope I'll be more lucky with the weather next time.

Complimenti to all the staff!!!

If you are looking for a modern, grand, Vegas-style 5 start property – this hotel is not for you. Royal Hotel is relatively small property, with old world charm, large rooms and great location. We stayed in the top floor junior suite. It had a huge terrace and an amazing view. We travel a lot in Europe and I like European style beddings. I do understand, however, how some travelers would find the bed to be a bit hard, but it was just what I liked. The service was great. The location of the hotel is convenient, within the walking distance to the local attractions and good restaurants. San Remo is strategically positioned to explore many great places in French and Italian Riviera.

We stayed at the Royal Hotel Sam Remo while on a 10 trip through Paris, Barcelona and the Ligurian Coast. It was a little dated maybe but it had a wonderful old world charm. Not completely updated but the rooms were huge with great views. We loved the salt water pool. The concierge sent us to an amazing restaurant in town which we walked to. I am blanking on the name but may have had the best and most fun meal ever there. It was non stop food and local wine and great service. they told us no menus they just told us to tell them when to stop. 3-4 hours later full and more than a bit happy from the wine we walked back to the hotel

The good: beautiful building, stunning Gio Ponti heated sea water pool.
The Bad: Whoa, what has happened to the service here? This is a member of the distinguished "Leading Hotelsof the World" group...usually known for outstanding service, smiling and welcoming concierges, who remember names. Example, the wonderful Excelsior Hotel in Florence, and the Splendide Royale in Lugano.
The Royale San Remo was anything but...actually, the dour concierge showing us to our room was more in the frame of mind that he was doing us a favour letting us stay.Tired ole bathrooms, manky shower with flimsy attachment. Rock hard bed and pillows. Fabulous views of the sea from our rooms, and great balconies.
Wandered down for dinner,( jackets required), into the huge dining room, lit up like a Christmas tree. Looks like a cruise ship dining room.Very slow service by surly head waiter and second rate food. Wish we had gone out to dinner!
Disastrous evening averted as,after dinner, the charming and very helpful barman arranged a table of the terrace after dinner where we had pudding and coffee and listened to an open air opera, a "Tribute to Pavatotti", which was excellent.
The next day,by the pool, wonderful! Very helpful pool attendant.
I had arrived with heavenly memories of my previous stay at the Royale San Remo about fifteen years ago, but left feeling very sad that the service in this lovely hotel has taken a dive.

I started out my journey in the wonderful Medieval City of Ceriana...I thought it would be cool to visit SanRemo for a couple of days. The Service at the hotel was great. The rooms were clean..the bathrooms are updated..the room itself could stand some updating. I could hear the guests above me, the wood floors..while beautiful...do not serve as a great buffer. The floral prints on the wall was a great deal for someone with a more contemporary style. If you enjoy the 20's flare..this is the place for you. The pool was amazing and the pool staff eager to please. The drinks were very pricey, small and not very good. Stick with the beer and wine..The view from the pool...AMAZING. The piano bar was fun... The restaurant was very pricey..but worth the splurge..the wine was incredible and they offer smaller bottles. The stairs were many...but after a big Italian meal...I welcomed the walk!!

We had a room with a huge terrace with loungers. The room was well equipped and we wanted for nothing. The dining room staff could not be more helpful and attentive. We were on the half board option but we had fantastic choices every evening. We stayed for 2 weeks having driven from England. The car parking was free and the car well looked after.
This is the best hotel I have ever stayed in and I hope very much to return.
