Charme Hotel Uridl
Reviewed 9 August 2013

My wife and I spent 4 nights in this wonderful, slightly eccentric hotel in beautiful little Santa Christina in the Val Gardena, attacking strenuous daily Dolomites walks with our favourite guided walks group. (Don't know if I can name them without prejudicing this review, so I won't :-(

I would have rated it 5 stars, but our room (which had the benefit of being very quiet!) was downstairs in 'the cellar' as we put it, missing out on views and being a little awkward with luggage. (But then, I did decline the immediate offer of help, on arrival).

The host family (yes, at it for those 370 odd years) and their staff were magnificent - always anxious to help, and for us, a ball of fun. The meals were excellent as I see others have noted here, the complimentary wifi worked well - what more can one want for? Ah yes, the location! Up a mini Sasso Lungo in terms of the final foot approach, right next to the beautiful (and lovingly maintained) church, perfetto!

From what I can read the value for money is excellent and I have rated it accordingly, but as with a parallel stay at a hotel in the Leutasch Valley, it was included in our tour costs.

Would we stay again? Absolutely!!

We stayed with our family (dad, mum, two boys of 9 and 12) for a week in this very comfortable hotel. The four-bedroom was good: the boys had a separate area with their own beds. We have nice boys, but we were glad not to see them all the times ;-). The buffet-breakfast was every day one of the highlites for the boys. A rich variety of fresh and good food. As parents we enjoyed especially the luxury of the dinner. This is vacation in Italy!
The hotel is ten minutes walking from the centre. A shuttle-bus from the hotel brought us every day to the right skiing-lift. This has not been our last stay in Uridl! Jan-Willem Kluit, Amsterdam.

I am just back from a weeks skiing holiday, staying in this hotel. Checkin was fast (passport details taken the next day) and food was available even though we arrived late. My room was on the top floor of the main hotel and had a balcony. Some rooms are in buildings close to the hotel. All the room facilities worked well and the bed was good. Breakfast is a buffet of cold meats and cereals, although you can cook your own boiled egg. I would have liked a cooked breakfast to be made available. There is a heated boot room for your ski gear which the hotels taxis stops outside to take you too and from the slopes. Last bus home is 4.30pm which is a bit early if you want to enjoy a drink after Skiing in the bar at the bottom of the slopes. The staff at this hotel really make you feel welcome and this is what makes it a great place to stay. I would have no hesitation in returning to this hotel.

We have now stayed at Hotel Uridl four times and on each occasion we have been impressed by the service, ambience and standard of cuisine. We have been for skiing and also in September for walking and exploring Via Ferrata.
The staff are very friendly and will do their best to help.
The evening meal is quite a feast!

Recently stayed at this hotel for a skiing holiday. Although not ski in/out, the hotel mini bus is very regular 3 times in the morning and 3 times in the afternoon - we had a leisurely breakfast (a simple but good buffet with fruit, yoghurt, cereals, ham, cheese, bread and eggs to boil) and were on the slopes shortly after 9.00. The rooms are pleasant - not huge - but comfortable beds, Tv with BBC News and CNN, large (if old-fashioned) bathroom with big bath and lots of hot water - and everything is kept really clean. Our room had a balcony with lovely views towards the village and slopes. The whole hotel - which is not large - has a nice feel about it with lots of art hung on the walls. If you're on half-board you don't get to eat in the pretty old stube, but the main dining/breakfast room is attractive anyway. Mainly Dutch and Germans and the majority middle aged couples. The evening meal is FIVE courses - sometimes a bit much even if you had done a hard day's skiing - but of a really good quality - we had steak, venison, rabbit, osso bucco amongst other things and all nicely cooked and presented. And that brings me on to the best thing about the hotel - the waiting staff were really lovely - Paul, Carmen and Mohammed looked after everyone really professionally and with "charme". The hotel is not in the main bit of the village so nothing really to do after dinner. Definitely not a place to take teenagers but good if you want to ski a lovely bit of the Dolomites and relax in the evening. The only two downsides to be aware of is that they do not serve water in jugs - so for the thirsty skier you have to fork out 3.50 Euros a bottle which adds up over a week - this seems a bit daft as you are surrounded by lovely mountain water.... Also although in the half-board description it says "afternoon tea with homemade cakes" what you actually get is the cake - and you have to pay for the cup of tea. A small point but irritating.

Room Tip: There is a church next door, so if early morning bells worry you ask to be on the other side of the...

The first time I went to the Charme Uridl was Christmas 1971. the hotel is charming, the ambience superb and the cuisine and staff outstanding.
Since then I have returned 16 times and all I can say is that each time was better than the last.
In our opinion It is truly a very magical place.
