We found the hotel through the British Airways holiday site which meant we had to arrange our own transfers. Having arrived too late to get the local bus, we contacted the hotel to help us arrange a private transfer from the airport which was 90 euros for one way. Hugely overpriced but that's taxis in Italy! Prior to us even arriving we were in contact with the hotel as we requested a nice room overlooking the bay for my birthday. While we weren't guaranteed this, the hotel promised to do their best to accommodate our request - which was honoured at check in. The staff were superb and literally everyone from Reception to the maids to the waiting staff at breakfast and during the day to the lifeguards around the pool were really friendly, helpful and couldn't do enough to look after us.
We had a room on the 4th floor (418) which had superb views of Vesuvius but no balcony. Rooms are all quite small but are spotlessly clean with a 4 piece bathroom set. Towels were initially very strange - just linen but were amazingly effective. We also asked for additional pillows which were provided. There is a fridge in the room too which was great for keeping water cool and the aircon was also free. There is also a free safe in the room too. Wifi in the hotel is free and pretty quick. it works better the closer you are to Reception and you had to keep logging back in but no problem really! The fantastic sun terraces on floors 4 and 5 are great ways to view the bay.
The pool was a little chilly when we first arrived but soon warmed up by early July. i can honestly say it was the cleanest pool I have EVER been in. There were plenty of sun-loungers all day but it did get a little busier in the afternoons but there were always the sun terraces if there were no free loungers directly by the pool. Both terraces had showers and got the breeze too. Each pool tile was visible from the 5th floor! The lifeguards are great at keeping the whole area clean and tidy and we were delighted that no glass is allowed around the pool area too!
Breakfast had a good selection from continental foods to fresh croissants as well as bacon, scrambled egg and beans. Some people also requested omelettes and fried eggs but this wasn't advertised. Good bread, cake and cereal selections. There was rarely fresh fruit available but this wasn't a major issue. Coffee and English breakfast tea was also great!!
We found Sant'Agnello to be a lovely quiet residential district of Sorrento with a good variety of locals amenities, especially for lunch. We used the complimentary shuttle bus most days to go into Sorrento in the evening but it is also a 20 minute stroll into Sorrento town centre. The bus is great, frequent and on time with lovely drivers and always a cheery welcome! It also collects from a sister hotel nearby so booking is essential.
Hotel Caravel and Sant'Agnello is the perfect location to explore Sorrento and the Amalfi coast with a local train station and bus stop to destinations such as Pompeii, Herculaneum and also Naples.
We really can't thank the staff enough for such a fantastic stay - keep up the good work, we promised to highly recommend you all and here it is! Superb!
