We have just returned from a holiday in Sorrento staying at Hotel Caravel, booked as part of a package through Thomas Cook. What a fantastic hotel! Spotlessly clean, with good sized rooms and air conditioning. We didn't have a balcony room but the view from our room was stunning nevertheless. The hotel is in an ideal location. Situated in St Agnello, it is a fifteen minute walk to the town centre, or you can make use of the regular courtesy bus to and from town. We never used the bus, preferring to walk. It thus provides the best of both worlds: easy access to the lively town centre, but a bit quieter too. The hotel has lovely grounds - a pool area and separate seating area where you can relax on comfy chairs and couches. Food is great. We were half board and really impressed by the quality of the food, and the choice. For breakfast there was a good mix - cooked breakfast; fruit; croissants; continental style. For evening meals there were at least 3 choices for each course - there was never an evening when the food was not delicious. However, the most outstanding feature for us was the staff. Each and every person was friendly, approachable, helpful and efficient. Genuinely lovely people who made the stay really enjoyable, Would we go back? Without a shadow of a doubt! It's top of our list for next year.

I would return to this hotel over and over, my wife has food allergies and they could not do enough to help make our stay perfect. All staff members are very courteous and helpful even down to being local tour guides when you need advice on places to visit. The free shuttle bus into Sorrento is a great asset to visitors, although it can be walked in 20 mins and is a flat even route, no 1 in 4 hills to climb!.
I agree that the rooms could benefit from updating but they are spotless and the hotel represents great quality and value for money.

Room Tip: west facing 2nd 3rd or 4th floors with small balcony with views of pool and bay of Naples and Vesuvi...

Just come back from a fabulous stay at this hotel. The hotel is spotless. We booked a twin room that slept 3 adults. This was a good size, had air conditioning and we had a nice private balcony. Our room was 125. From the balcony you could see the swimming pool and also the orange trees. We had free wifi included and this always worked well which pleased our son.

The staff at this hotel are excellent. They are always happy to give you advice and they are all so friendly. We had half board and we found the meals very good. Breakfast was very good too, plenty of choices. Evening meal there was always about 4 choices for each course, starter main meal and dessert. All very good portions and very tasty. Again the restaurant staff are lovely,so helpful and always smiling.

The views from the roof terraces should not be missed. It was nice to have the option of the free hotel shuttle bus into Sorrento. We used it when we went into Sorrento at night but during the day we walked in. Took a leisurely 20-30 minutes, stopping for picture opportunities overlooking the Bay of Naples.

We all loved this hotel and would definitely go back again.

Room Tip: The room was large enough for myself husband and son. If you wanted a larger room I assume you would...

We stayed for one week early last September as part of a package deal which included a late night transfer from Naples airport. The room was a little dated and on the small side but clean and comfortable with peaceful nights sleep.

We had the half board option which was reasonably
priced. The meals were different each night and served by uniformed waiters but the quality of food could have been better. The best were the pasta dishes. The breakfast was not that interesting, once again lacking in quality and also selection. There was no fresh fruit. The seating arrangement was such that on the first day, guests are allocated a table for the whole stay which they shared with another couple who arrived on the same day. This may suit some people but if you wanted privacy or did not want to converse with same couple (or anyone) at fourteen meals during the week then this could lessen your satisfaction with the hotel.

All the staff were helpful and friendly, especially in the restaurant. The hotel is located away form the hustle and bustle of Sorrento which can be reached by foot in 20 minutes or so or the hotel has a good shuttle bus service throughout. The sea is just down the road and the concrete/timber lido can be reached via lift or stairs where you can pay for a sun bed/shade on the jetty. There is a very small pebble there. If you want a proper beach (pebble) then you can catch a bus travelling north via Meta where there are three lidos to choose from.

The swimming pool was welcome after a days sightseeing and there were enough sunbeds available There was entertainment some nights but it was the same guy playing the keyboards who helped to clear the bar area by missing or playing the wrong notes during his performance. If you want some live music then walk to the left or right from the hotel entrance and there is usually a hotel that has something going and is open to non residents.

Overall, although we were out nearly every day sightseeing, we did have a pleasant and relaxing stay.

Very nice hotel located just outside of Sorrento(15 minute walk). Located in quiet residential neighborhood. Hotel, pool, and outddor seating areas are beautiful by night and day. Staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Pool is exquisitely clean and pleasant. No sea views except for a handful of rooms on the 4th and 5th flooors. There are Sun terraces with very nice chairs and showers(to cool off) on the 4th and 5th floors for sun bath bathing. They offer free shuttle services into Sorrento and back starting at 8 am and ending at 10 pm aprrox. every one-two hours depending on time of day. However, the walk is easy and my wife and I often chose to walk either one or both ways.
My only word of caution is that if you are looking for a rollicking scene, this is not it. My wife and I are in our late 30's and we were by far the youngest couple there. Most were couples with grown kids and a few families with younger children. My wife and I could not help but chuckle a bit as we are originally from Upstate New York, for those from in and around New York and upstate, think Catskills. For those not, think of the movie Dirty Dancing. This place is like that, without the cheesiness. Breakfast spread is very good, definitely skip the 3 course dinner for 25 euro per person at the hotel restaurant. It is not very good, nor a good value. Particularly with all of the great food options available.

We found the hotel through the British Airways holiday site which meant we had to arrange our own transfers. Having arrived too late to get the local bus, we contacted the hotel to help us arrange a private transfer from the airport which was 90 euros for one way. Hugely overpriced but that's taxis in Italy! Prior to us even arriving we were in contact with the hotel as we requested a nice room overlooking the bay for my birthday. While we weren't guaranteed this, the hotel promised to do their best to accommodate our request - which was honoured at check in. The staff were superb and literally everyone from Reception to the maids to the waiting staff at breakfast and during the day to the lifeguards around the pool were really friendly, helpful and couldn't do enough to look after us.

We had a room on the 4th floor (418) which had superb views of Vesuvius but no balcony. Rooms are all quite small but are spotlessly clean with a 4 piece bathroom set. Towels were initially very strange - just linen but were amazingly effective. We also asked for additional pillows which were provided. There is a fridge in the room too which was great for keeping water cool and the aircon was also free. There is also a free safe in the room too. Wifi in the hotel is free and pretty quick. it works better the closer you are to Reception and you had to keep logging back in but no problem really! The fantastic sun terraces on floors 4 and 5 are great ways to view the bay.

The pool was a little chilly when we first arrived but soon warmed up by early July. i can honestly say it was the cleanest pool I have EVER been in. There were plenty of sun-loungers all day but it did get a little busier in the afternoons but there were always the sun terraces if there were no free loungers directly by the pool. Both terraces had showers and got the breeze too. Each pool tile was visible from the 5th floor! The lifeguards are great at keeping the whole area clean and tidy and we were delighted that no glass is allowed around the pool area too!

Breakfast had a good selection from continental foods to fresh croissants as well as bacon, scrambled egg and beans. Some people also requested omelettes and fried eggs but this wasn't advertised. Good bread, cake and cereal selections. There was rarely fresh fruit available but this wasn't a major issue. Coffee and English breakfast tea was also great!!

We found Sant'Agnello to be a lovely quiet residential district of Sorrento with a good variety of locals amenities, especially for lunch. We used the complimentary shuttle bus most days to go into Sorrento in the evening but it is also a 20 minute stroll into Sorrento town centre. The bus is great, frequent and on time with lovely drivers and always a cheery welcome! It also collects from a sister hotel nearby so booking is essential.

Hotel Caravel and Sant'Agnello is the perfect location to explore Sorrento and the Amalfi coast with a local train station and bus stop to destinations such as Pompeii, Herculaneum and also Naples.

We really can't thank the staff enough for such a fantastic stay - keep up the good work, we promised to highly recommend you all and here it is! Superb!

Room Tip: something on the back of the hotel is advisable as it is quieter but some rooms are without a balcon...

We visited this hotel last month. We booked for 6 nights but changed our plans and the hotel staff were so helpful in finding us a room even though the hotel was full. The hotel Manager and staff could not do enough for us they were fantastic. The room was clean and we had a lovely outlook over the pool. The food was very good with buffet breakfast and waiter service in the evening. The waiters were so friendly and helpful. All in all we had a wonderful 9 nights at this hotel but what made it for us was the staff. Would definitely like to return sometime in the future. Anyone thinking of going, you will have a lovely time.
