“Go for Room 206”
Reviewed 21 June 2012

You can see why the hotel is so popular everyone works hard at achieving guests satisfaction. I would have no hesitation in returning to this hotel if back in the area. We stayed 4 nights then 2 in Naples. The view from room 206 is wonderful and recommend it highly but I hope they have changed the mattress nearest the window as I nearly slid on to the floor a few nights, the springs have gone on the edge. Breakfast, I appreciate that this is a contentious issue and am often surprised at other views on this, I have had from the very basic stale bun and cold coffee to banquets, this breakfast was adequate for only a few mornings, those that enthuse need to travel more. My only gripe was that we purchased a small pkt of Parma ham and a small piece of wrapped Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese from the local supermarket just up the road and had a mid afternoon snack with a small bottle of red wine on the balcony, a delicious taste of Italy, we wrapped up the remainder and put it in the fridge for later on. However after returning the following afternoon we found that the small remaining items were removed and laid on top of the fridge and had to be thrown out due to the heat. We also found the following day that a small bottle of water we kept in the fridge for overnight was also removed and left on top to warm up. I have no problem if it is the hotels rules that no personal items are kept in the fridge/mini bar and would have appreciated a note to that effect, during my extensive hotel stays round wide spread Italy I have never experienced this?

Room Tip: Room 206 has a wonderful view.

Just back from a week at the Hotel Alpha and had a wonderful time there.

This was our second visit to Sorrento and last time we stayed some distance out, this time we wanted a hotel nearer the centre without being too close so the Alpha seemed perfect, and so it proved.

We had read all the great reviews and can now only agree with all that has been said. The staff are wonderful and the hotel is immaculately kept. Rooms are well furnished and equipped and the food is great. You can tell it is run by a team that really care about their guests.

We flew to Naples airport and were staggered to see how improved it is now compared to seven years ago, very smart and efficient! We took the www.curreriviaggi.it bus from outside the airport to Sant Agnello and found it very easy to find the “white bus” although the queue behind us got quite long and not everyone got on (we think they put another bus on if the first gets full). TIP get one of your party to load the bags on while the other gets in the queue for the tickets. Transfer time was 90minutes and cost 10 euros, very good value.

We were dropped off in the middle of Sant Agnello and it was only a five minute walk to the hotel on level pavements. You need to be quite bold with Italian pedestrian crossings, the traffic will not stop for you until you get your feet on the crossing!

Isabella was on reception and the welcome was as warm and effusive as we had been led to expect, only drawback is you have to lug your cases up several steps to get to the hotel from the road and there is no ramp anywhere.

Our room was lovely and overlooked the front garden. Although it was a bit noisy sat on the balcony with the traffic, it was more than made up for by the view and continuous sunshine. All rooms have double glazing and security shutters so noise at night is not a problem and we slept well every night.

Breakfasts were excellent and the legendary Salvatore made every meal in the restaurant special. He has a lovely manner with guests and his staff, but remains firmly in control and ensures it all runs like clockwork. Italian breakfasts are different from ours and are mainly fruit followed by cold meats and cake, although there was always scrambled egg and bacon available. Coffee was excellent!

We were only on half board but ate in the hotel one night and one lunchtime. Food was very good quality but we thought evening meal a bit expensive and not what we were looking for from Italian Cuisine. Otherwise we ate out and our favourites were the Taverna Rossa and Moonlight, both on Via Cappuccini only a short walk away over the road and bear left, up the narrow passageway and turn right towards the end, turn left for the Taverna and right for Moonlight.

We walked in to Sorrento once but found it quite busy so we generally used the local buses to get to Sorrento and the Marina, but found the purchase of tickets at the “Tabacchi” very confusing. Sometimes we were given the E1 ticket for 1.2 euros and other times they refused to sell us that and insisted that as tourists we had to use the more expensive E2 ticket for 2.4 euros. A rip off.

We went to Pompei and Herculaneum using the railway from the Circumvesuviana station just up the road, Capri from the Marina Piccolo in Sorrento and Amalfi using the bus from just outside Sorrento station. The railway is very easy to use and you get tickets at the stations, but the ticket offices are not open much on Sundays. TIP remember to validate your ticket at the punch machines before getting on.

The bus to Amalfi gets very busy and is usually rammed full with standing passengers. If the bus is full they do not put another on and you have to wait for the next, this caught us out and we had to wait over an hour in the glaring sun for the next bus. Watching the drivers squeeze through the narrow gaps on the bends is amazing! Views on the coast road are superb and the cathedral in Amalfi is spectacular and definitely worth a visit.

We had to leave by 6.10am on the day of departure, but Salvatore made sure we got a packed breakfast to take with us. Bus back to the airport was not busy.

Difficult to fault the hotel Alpha to be honest and we would certainly go back. Lovely hotel, good location, wonderful staff.

Room Tip: For sun get a room facing the road at the side, for peace and quite get a room facing the neighbouri...

We have just returned from Italy staying at the Alpha Hotel and can only agree with all the great reviews this hotel was given. It was through Trip Advisor and the comments that it became our hotel selection. I wont reitterate the comments about the cleanliness, food and staff as they are all true. The location is excellent for the train station and we used it regularly after Day 1. It was on Day 1 that we walked into Sorrento via the back road. It takes an awful long time probably 40 minutes and is not at all picturesque. Better to get the train and spend more time walking round Sorrento.

This hotel met all our expectations, the staff are all very friendly and helpful, the maids always bid you good morning as they carry out their work. The cleanliness of the rooms is a credit to them. The reception staff are very helpful so we didn't need the use of our travel rep. The restaurant staff are led by Salvatore and again are a credit to the hotel, there is nothing that is too much trouble for them, I even got a surprise birthday cake which i knew nothing about. Salvatore shows he is passionate about his work and makes his work look effortless as he speaks to all customers young or old. The pool area was very pleasant and clean.
we found travelling to the sites very easy using the local bus and train service, we were able to see Pompeii, Capri and Amalfi Coast at a fraction of the cost that were quoted by Travel reps. We plan to go back again to visit sites we didn't have time to view and will definately stay at this hotel again.

This is a fabulous hotel the staff are all so helpful especially Salvatore the head waiter who takes time to talk to all the guests making them feel at home. The restaurant was excellent and provides a great choice of excellent good food. I need to have a gluten free diet and this hotel catered for me better than any other hotel or establishment I have ever visited. Salvatore provided gluten free Cereal bread and cake at breakfast as well as the choice from the buffet, it felt more like a brunch than a breakfast. Evening meals were an absolute joy, gluten free heart shaped ravioli, pastry desserts all the foods I normally struggle with. There was so much choice and with advice from Salvatore I felt very safe regarding my food choice. We also had lunch on the terrace and at short notice the chef prepared the best gluten free pasta dish I have ever tasted. Beautiful surroundings and a nice relaxed atmosphere around the pool no trouble finding a sun bed ! Easy access to many areas via the train station which is not too far away. I would definitely return to this hotel. Well done Salvatore and the Alpha hotel.

Just returned from our 3rd stay at this hotel! First time 2000 where we loved it so much we returned 2 years later and still excellent. We thought it hard to improve upon but they have done it again. Salvatore the head waiter & his team deliver a first class service in the dining room and nothing is too much trouble. The food is outstanding, offering an A la carte evening menu with tastes to suite everyone, they want you the guest to enjoy your stay & try to accommodate guests personal dietary requirements if known in advance. There is an extensive choice for breakfast & if still hungry at lunchtime they provide good value for money lunch menu. The dining room and bedrooms have been refurbished to a high standard, again Salvatore's influence. The pool area has more than enough sun loungers under the orange tree's. There is a children's paddling pool plus the main swimming pool which is just right for cooling off in. At the back of the hotel/restaurant there is a quiet area with comfortable sofa's & chairs. The hotel is an ideal base for all the attractions:- Capri, Ischia, Positano, Almafi, Ravello, Pompeii, Herculaneum, Naples & Rome. Central for the railway station which is a 5 minute walk from the hotel & takes 3 minutes into Sorrento.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back over looking the orange & lemon tree's are quieter.

My mum, myself and my 3 daughters have just returned from a 5 day stay at the Hotel Alpha. We had a brilliant time and could not fault the Hotel, it was clean, rooms were lovely, pool great and the staff were outstanding. The Head waiter in particular is a real credit to the hotel and went out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed, including arranging special desserts fro my mum who has an allergy to some foods. Would recommend this hotel to anybody thinking about visiting this part of the world. Not only was the hotel lovely you are 5 minutes walk away from the train station and therefore able to explore the beautiful area easily.
